#snikket actualizado a la ultima release estable de este año, pero el gateway para #whatsapp de #slidge sigue sin funcionar y me temo que voy a tener que volver a usar la app oficial ¬¬
Been working on getting Slidgnal, a #XMPP to #Signal gateway built on #Slidge back up and running with a mix of Go and Python; after a recent spree of work, we have fairly good support for 1-on-1 chats with reactions, attachments, etc. all working. Couldn't have been done without the great work by
@nicoco and tulir (tulir.fi on bsky).
If you're running your own #XMPP server and are looking to bridge your #Signal contacts over, give it a go, repo is here https://codeberg.org/slidge/slidgnal and Docker/Podman or PyPi-based installs are well-supported! Group support is up next!
While we'd like everyone to use decentralised messaging standards like #XMPP, there are times when you just want to stay in touch with a friend or group on the #murky lands of the other side. Thankfully we have software like #Matterbridge and #Slidge to bridge your messages across to other platforms—although no guarantees about what happens to your message once it reaches there 🤖️

Libervia lead dev here. XMPP do support e2ee, and has several options if you want to use PFS or not (OMEMO vs OX). It is an open standard, and avoid ambiguity. And it does a lot (chat, blogging/microblogging, comments, calendar events, file sharing, A/V calls, etc).
And there are gateways to other protocols such as ActivityPub, email, IRC, or proprietary platforms (with Slidge).
Curious how none of the coverage of this launch mention that the app isn’t actually open-source (though they pretend to be an open-source project), which makes all of their claims of “end-to-end encryption” worthless ...

arbocenc#XMPP can run bridges (called "Transports" or "Gateways" in XMPP terms) since the early ages. And nowadays, there are modern ones with tight integrations: #Slidge being a flagship (including a #Matrix gateway), and I'm myself working on ActivityPub gateway and soon a email one with #Libervia. #Cheogram is also working on SMTP gateway. And #Biboumi is the flagship #IRC gateway.

I know that title might seem controversial, so let's dive in. Right now, here’s the landscape of federated protocols: ...
