Okay, so I went to check out an apartment this morning.

I arrived right at 10am.

I waited a good 30 minutes before anyone saw me.

Great start.

Once I was served it went mostly smoothly except for one thing. The paper she handed me said that I need revenue 2.7 times the rent. (That's how it works in these here parts.) However, the text they send me yesterday said 2.22 times the rent. And when I called in Nov or Oct of last year, the person on the phone said 2.5 times the rent.

Now today, I get 2.7 times the rent. This seems to be set in stone, but man... why the contradictory answers?

Good Morning, Friends!

I mean.. I suppose as good a morning as it can be given the international circumstances.

Unfortunately I must add clutter to your already-crowded timelines with more digital panhandling because we're running out of time before goes late. I'm trying desperately to avoid incurring late fees and undue attention from the leasing office. Moreso the latter than the former, if I'm being honest because we loathe "rocking the boat" and attracting scrutiny.

We have received a couple of donations in response to my previous post which we sincererly appreciate and can definitely use to compensate for my hours at work having dipped now that we're past the holiday season, but sadly we won't see the funds for several days so I can't count them towards our running total (unless we don't make deadline. Going late would also burn most if not all the funds from those donations in rental late fees which would really suck).

Please forgive me yet again for the constant posts. I know it's getting very, very, very old. I want to say "I shouldn't have let things get this far", but the reality is, it's complicated; I tried to do everything I could. I don't really have the mental and emotional stamina to work multiple jobs -- everyone says, "You'll just get used to it", but I literally start to have emotional breakdowns and mental glitches when I try to work that much, and my becomes almost unmanageable -- and my partner was struggling so badly with his trauma.

I don't want to be a burden to the community anymore, and I promise you we're working as hard as we can to achieve that. But we're not quite there yet. We adore this apartment and don't want to do anything to jeopardize it.

As an additional incentive for donating, I'm including a pic I took this morning from our balcony. If you donate or boost, you can look at it and vicariously enjoy the view that my partner and I have enjoyed for the past month and a half only because of the generosity of the fine folks of the . Dammit.. every time I try to enter "Marvin the Paranoid Android" mode, someone has to spoil it with kindness. (kidding)

Earlier this afternoon, I posted the following whining screed of self-pity about our financial situation and covering :

Soon after, we received a donation putting us less than $50 from the total needed for the "flexible payment" service, which could cost us upwards of $75 or more per month and doesn't have the most flattering reputation for reliability according to reviewers of the service's app -- only to postpone a portion of our monthly rent.

However, if we consider the total amount we still need to make a full payment for December, this donation already puts us a quarter of the way to having the funds to do so -- thereby saving money that would go to a sketchy payment service, ensuring we don't make a terrible impression on the leasing office crew, and avoiding another potential crisis when the rest of the rent becomes due in a few weeks (and also not long before we need to cough up the dough for January).

So.. while we're almost there to do a split payment, I'm now emboldened to try and raise the funds to skip that headache altogether and, by doing so hopefully keep us on track to finally, FINALLY, becoming self-supporting and maybe start giving back to the community from whom we've unfortunately had to take so much.

Therefore, I feel that I must request assistance from our online family one more time, one more miracle to keep us safe and fed.

Please forgive my hubris in expecting so much from the community, particularly after you've all given us such a great amount of funds the past couple of years. I have strived to allow my partner to make his journey out of the fog of at his own pace and our friends here gave us the ability to do so; and now as he dips his toes into the water of functional society, I want even more to make sure he is insulated from the stress of covering rent until we know for sure he can handle it.

I want to cancel the flexible payment garbage before they charge us all these fees and we get roped into a service that is rumored to be exceptionally difficult to cancel and self-extricate.

I need the village's help one more time. Please bear with us. Or even buffalo with us, we're not picky.

On one level one might expect Councils that are already in crisis to be failing in the responsibilities around the regulation of the rental market....

but it also suggests that further regulation of renting may not be the panacea that many hope: a further set of unevenly enforced laws about landlords' practice(s) is all very well but what is really need is proper enforcement of rogue landlords in the first place!

11.29 — Cantankerous?

It was interesting how my view of Emily had changed. At first, I had found her humorless and grouchy, almost . She was definitely serious, but she had a humorous side and was perfectly capable of engaging in verbal sparring.

She was a bit sadistic too. I could tell by the way her lips turned up in a smile as I pushed my way through the thick forest growth, and by her uproarious laughter when a -shaped bug as big as my fist caused me to shriek in surprise.

We eventually reached the “trail,” a muddy, trampled swath of land that ambled through the forest. Fallen trees littered the path, and huge footprints lurked in the dense ferns, threatening to break the legs of the unwary. The expedition clothes I had manifested soon turned into leather chaps and a jacket. Despite the heat, it was better than being by the long dagger-like thorns that hid amid the foliage.

My attempts to transform my clothes into futuristic lightweight armor were a flop. There were clearly limits to my power. As an experiment, I tried to manifest money and then a gun. Again, the experiments failed. I had better luck with manifesting a machete.

My woes weren't limited to the heat and flora. Clouds of gnats followed me. A safari hat with mosquito netting helped, but hindered my movement through the brush. The machete and short stints of immateriality were helpful, but tiring. Indiana Jones, I wasn’t.
