The first criminal shown is of color. US movies/tv will often show a mixture of Black and characters of color to give the impression that they're being unbiased when

ISO a meta 🧵 I read a couple years ago : iirc 's historical awful treatment of , especially , is complicated af bc the exact thing that's causing strife is one of the most valued ways Mastodon/Fediverse works to begin with. The author had clearly had a lot of experience on & was like "this is a cycle I've seen over n over again," playing server ban whac-a-mole. It was super insightful. Hoping someone can clock it?

Please boost this message to spread the word!

Virilization Fans or VFans for short is a brand-new instance for transmasculine people and allies.
Registrations are open, so please feel free to apply for an account here.

What can you expect from us?

  • VFans does its best to moderate the server from any unwanted content, especially from bigotry towards transmasc people and POC, as those are demographics often neglected by wider Fediverse.
  • The instance is co-owned by an Indigenous person and is hosted outside of US and UK jurisdictions (therefore we will not be affected by their legislation)
  • As the server uses Akkoma software, you are free to customize the theme of the default front-end (including fonts) to accomodate your disabilities when using our instance.
  • We do balance our moderation actions and try not to apply complete defederations unless severe rule violations occur and the remote admins repeatedly refuse to moderate their user(s), and instead opt for limiting the instance or suspending individual users
  • We blocked Threads on our instance!

Anything else
If you need help, have questions or feedback, feel free to DM this account.
Please do not reach out to individual staff accounts about moderation issues. That allows all of VFans staff to chime in to the conversation and/or pass through if necessary.

I need to write a proper post about this at some point, but for now, here's the short version:

If you're purportedly fighting racism on fedi, purportedly trying to make it a more diverse space, purportedly trying to make it a more welcoming space to people that aren't white, etc, stop assuming people that don't have their race plastered in all caps on their profile are white, k? :shiba_angry: (especially if you're a POC yourself)

Because you know what that is? White-washing, an example of the very racism we're trying to fight, and something that makes a space seem less diverse than it actually is :zerotwo_shrug:

The fact that it's used against POC to discredit what we have to say is just the cherry on top (and often even a wonderful example of lateral violence :cat_facepalm: )

p.s. Deflecting criticism from poc by insinuating they're not actually poc, that they're actually white, is included in this as well. Some people use this as their go-to defense, painting everyone who they don't agree with as 'white' or 'not poc enough'.

Hey fedi :FediverseSymbol:

We want to follow more

  • agender folk
  • bigender folk
  • genderfluid folk
  • genderqueer folk
  • non-binary folk
  • trans guys
  • trans mascs
  • trans POC
  • two-spirit

... and anyone else who falls under the broad trans umbrella :TransHeart:

As it stands, our follow list has a bias towards trans woman, trans fems, and fembies. We want to balance out our feed and see your posts, thoughts, problems, questions, and joy that we're not currently seeing.

The problem we're having is that we genuinely have not been able to find many by searching 😭

For example, if we do a search from our instance for , we only see about 13 profiles and a handful of posts, probably due to our server not fully searching across fedi 😞

(FYI, any tech recommendations on additionally relays or ways to solve this search / federation issue on a Glitch-SOC server would be very much welcomed.)

So, please can y'all either reply back for us to follow you, have some recommendations of folk we can follow, or have thoughts on getting around our search / federation issue, we'd be super grateful :PinkHeart:

And boosts are very welcome :BoostsOKPrideSymbol:

N.B., This post is genuine. It's not a test to make any kind of point. If we can't find you, we're hoping maybe you can find us?

It's the sequel thread, and this time I'll do it right!

I'll reply to this thread every time I "finish" playing a video game this year. That could mean getting to the end of the story it tells, or just getting to a point where I think I've experienced what the game has to offer me.

By "doing it right" I mean that I won't forget about the part where I don't actually have to play to what would be considered the end of the game.

I didn't even know that made a new game until I saw a article about it. (The comments section was filled up with conservative weirdos as it's apparently their latest target.)

Tried out the demo and apparently this "worst game ever" is a very solid Telltale-esque with and portions.

And, yeah, it contains all those things brainworm'd regressives hate: , and rep.

The main protagonist, Pax, is a multi-talented musician who writes, sings and plays the guitar. She's standing in the aisle of the group's tour bus. She has a dark purple tattoo that seems to cover much of her upper torso and bits of at least one arms. Just under her collar bones, the negative space in the tattoo creates the shape of a moth with a white skull symbol on its thorax. In the picture, she's wearing a purple t-shirt with a bit of light blue and magenta over her chest and the text "The Flashback" in orange with magenta outlines. Off to the right side of the screen is a bookshelf with some bags of potato chips and a selection of books, top to bottom: 1) Fallen Dreams, by Ryan Alvane, being a reference to Dreamfall... and perhaps April Ryan from that game series? 2) Birth of the Republic, by... Samuel Ward, I think? 3) RoboSheriff: Blood & Oil. Can't make it the author's first name, but last name is Masterson. The title is presumably a reference to the nazi slogan which has seen recent use by American fascists. 4) The Red Thread of Fate, by Lin Liuxian, which is a reference to both the studio's name and the East Asian belief it's inspired by.
A quick look at the rhythm game interface while Pax is working on a new song on her guitar. The interface itself is a compass-like circle where each cardinal direction is a face button from a standard videogame controller. Lines shoot out towards the edges of the screen from those button symbols, and you press the buttons as icons with those same symbols have moved along the lines and into the circle. At this point in the story, Pax is wearing an orange beanie and a white t-shirt that has been bloodied in and around her right armpit for reasons that are only vaguely hinted at in the demo. Her friend, Sai, is sitting behind her, and a densely forested area can be seen on both sides of the road behind the bus.
A splash screen properly introducing Pax's little sister, Ziggy (she/her, 31 years old). She's paler than Pax, has some kind of cybernetic implant in her left-side eye socket with a scar reaching upwards onto her forehead, and her hair is giving distinct "Sony's Spider-Verse Gwen Stacy" vibes as it's primarily blonde with some pink on the right side, and a purple undercut on the left side. One white bra strap visible, she's wearing a shirt in shades of purple with a yellow-orange waveform print across her chest. Text on the right side of the screen, accompanies by little joystick and wrench icons, describes her: "Mechanic, little sis, former anarcho-primitivist (sort of). Anxious and light on her feet. Working on brushing the chip off her shoulder. ⬅ Vocals induce high entropy in molecules."
