The first criminal shown is of color. US movies/tv will often show a mixture of Black and characters of color to give the impression that they're being unbiased when
ISO a #MastodonMeta#ActivityPub#Fediverse meta 🧵 I read a couple years ago : iirc #Mastodon 's historical awful treatment of #PoC, especially #BlackFedi , is complicated af bc the exact thing that's causing strife is one of the most valued ways Mastodon/Fediverse works to begin with. The author had clearly had a lot of experience on #Masto & was like "this is a cycle I've seen over n over again," playing server ban whac-a-mole. It was super insightful. Hoping someone can clock it?
If any #QPOC#QTPOC#poc happen to be making your way over from #Bluesky, I'd love to connect :) been feeling a bit lonely on here, and I hear there's been a recent influx, so yeah consider this an #introduction!
Virilization Fans or VFans for short is a brand-new instance for transmasculine people and allies.
Registrations are open, so please feel free to apply for an account here.
What can you expect from us?
VFans does its best to moderate the server from any unwanted content, especially from bigotry towards transmasc people and POC, as those are demographics often neglected by wider Fediverse.
The instance is co-owned by an Indigenous person and is hosted outside of US and UK jurisdictions (therefore we will not be affected by their legislation)
As the server uses Akkoma software, you are free to customize the theme of the default front-end (including fonts) to accomodate your disabilities when using our instance.
We do balance our moderation actions and try not to apply complete defederations unless severe rule violations occur and the remote admins repeatedly refuse to moderate their user(s), and instead opt for limiting the instance or suspending individual users
We blocked Threads on our instance!
Anything else
If you need help, have questions or feedback, feel free to DM this account.
Please do not reach out to individual staff accounts about moderation issues. That allows all of VFans staff to chime in to the conversation and/or pass through if necessary.
I need to write a proper post about this at some point, but for now, here's the short version:
If you're purportedly fighting racism on fedi, purportedly trying to make it a more diverse space, purportedly trying to make it a more welcoming space to people that aren't white, etc, stop assuming people that don't have their race plastered in all caps on their profile are white, k? :shiba_angry: (especially if you're a POC yourself)
Because you know what that is? White-washing, an example of the very racism we're trying to fight, and something that makes a space seem less diverse than it actually is :zerotwo_shrug:
The fact that it's used against POC to discredit what we have to say is just the cherry on top (and often even a wonderful example of lateral violence :cat_facepalm: )
p.s. Deflecting criticism from poc by insinuating they're not actually poc, that they're actually white, is included in this as well. Some people use this as their go-to defense, painting everyone who they don't agree with as 'white' or 'not poc enough'.
... and anyone else who falls under the broad trans umbrella :TransHeart:
As it stands, our follow list has a bias towards trans woman, trans fems, and fembies. We want to balance out our feed and see your posts, thoughts, problems, questions, and joy that we're not currently seeing.
The problem we're having is that we genuinely have not been able to find many by searching 😭
For example, if we do a search from our instance for #TransMasc, we only see about 13 profiles and a handful of posts, probably due to our server not fully searching across fedi 😞
(FYI, any tech recommendations on additionally relays or ways to solve this search / federation issue on a Glitch-SOC server would be very much welcomed.)
So, please can y'all either reply back for us to follow you, have some recommendations of folk we can follow, or have thoughts on getting around our search / federation issue, we'd be super grateful :PinkHeart:
It's the sequel thread, and this time I'll do it right!
I'll reply to this thread every time I "finish" playing a video game this year. That could mean getting to the end of the story it tells, or just getting to a point where I think I've experienced what the game has to offer me.
By "doing it right" I mean that I won't forget about the part where I don't actually have to play to what would be considered the end of the game.
I didn't even know that #RedThreadGames made a new game until I saw a #PCGamer article about it. (The comments section was filled up with conservative weirdos as it's apparently their latest #CultureWar target.)
Tried out the demo and apparently this "worst game ever" is a very solid Telltale-esque #AdventureGame with #RhythmGame and #brawler portions.
And, yeah, it contains all those things brainworm'd regressives hate: #PoC, #queer and #BodyDiversity rep.
