@itsfoss
Wow that is a hard one to answer as I don't use any #Proprietary tools
Back before I moved to Linux & was still on #Windows7 2019, I went out of my way to not use proprietary tools & only used open source tools & tools ported to #Windows from #Linux.
A cheap answer from me would be: #Okular & #Firefox replaced #Adobe Reader for PDFs
The thing about proprietary #Software is you have to pay for it & I was never into that🏴☠️ 🦜️
On #Android I've been replacing proprietary Apps with open source
Notice the nice sentence below the said figures “See animations with Adobe Reader, KDE Okular or YouTube.” Well, my Adobe Reader does not work, so let’s try Okular – already heard of it, never tried it yet: https://okular.kde.org. We’re welcome on the landing page by an illustration from
@davidrevoy always a good sign.
And it works! #Okular displays videos as soon as we open the file and scroll to the figure. 4/9

Drum roll … this week's challenge!
Improve a loved one's digital life by helping them migrate from a closed, restrictive app like Photoshop, Acrobat Reader, Edge/Chrome to something open and free like #GIMP/ #Krita, #Okular/ #DocumentViewer , #Firefox…
Tell us about it in a post! Include a photo when you can and don't forget hashtag #EO10Challenges 🚀
"Nachhaltigkeit und Langlebigkeit: Was Windows 11 schwer fällt, macht Open-Source-Software beispielhaft vor. Okular, der KDE-PDF-Viewer ist mit dem Blauen Engel zertifiziert, und das KDE-Eco-Projekt will helfen, noch mehr alte Hardware zu unterstützen."
Trying out the #kde#plasmamobile client 'Tokodon', in its android version. It works, but placing the cursor for corrections is difficult, I easily moves words by accident. It looks nice, but of course not native. I'm going to try #plasmamobile on a used phone, just to see what it can do at this point, even though it can probably not yet be a daily driver. Photo just for testing.
IT WORKED - finally I'M IN!!!!
Installing the prebuilt images with fastboot failed, but resorting to pmbootstrap worked - so now I have a #oneplus6T phone with #postmarketos and #plasmamobile 6 on it.
I did order a simcard for it, but I haven't gotten that yet, so testing calls and sms must wait a few days.
How ever lots of things works - I can browse the internet with angelfish, look at photos, connect to bluetooth devices, record sound, play music, use KDE Connect, set alarms and use timers, view PDFs, use the shell and more ...
i can't use #tokodon (it freezes when trying to log in), so this is posted from my laptop, and my #nextcloud account configured in the plasmamobile settings does not work - no contacts or calendar events that way, or browsing files for that matter. #Okular shows a meaningful error message regarding files: webdavs:// fails. Not sure why #akonadi fails.
Fundraiser Appreciation Thread: Thank you for your support!
We thank every single donor and appreciate every donation we have received. Every € will be used wisely and will help support KDE contributors in their task of creating the best Free Software for the whole wide world.
The fundraiser is not over! We want to reach €70K by the end of January, but we would like to start acknowledging all those who have adopted KDE apps and made our community's job easier.
This is a picture of KDE's pet dragons, Katie and Konqi. Katie is on the left holding a box with slot in it, and Konqi, on the right, is putting a coin into the box.
Just donated to KDE and adopted Okular, their really nice PDF reader, which I use on a daily basis <3
Thanks for working on a good FOSS desktop experience, I hope this helps :D
Today, I got a calendar as a PDF table. I want to add this to my CalDav server (radicale). Even though the PDF contained just regular text (i.e. it was not a scanned image), it is not easy to parse the table data.
After trying different things, finally found that okular has a dedicated 'Table Selection' tool to do this. Then pasted to calc -> saved as csv -> with some shell scripting and khal, added all the dates to calendar!
