@neatchee Reminds me of gravity. It’s not fully understood (dark matter and dark energy and such), but we also don’t have no clue. Plus when I drop something (on earth) it still falls :)

I'm giving up on Google. None of the projects I've been working on (spout2pw, obs-pwvideo, libfunnel) are searchable, you get everything except for the actual project sites/repos. I put up a landing page and it briefly ranked and then disappeared.

DuckDuckGo has no issues. I'm switching.

How badly do you have to screw up search to not be able to search for an open source project and get, you know, the actual home page, repository, or documentation for that project at least somewhere in the first page of results? This is not hard...

@neatchee Samurai Troopers. It’s a turn off all your brain and watch one.

Tune in to the midnight heart could have qualified, but it’s low key really good. There’s a few tiny details (sadly spoilers) that properly turned it around. But it’s not a make you think show exactly :)

Honestly Matrix E2EE and federation is a bit like cryptocurrency (without going into all its other social problems).

It's clever, it's an impressive technical achievement that it works at all... and it completely ignores all the practical reasons why server-centric systems exist.

You don't solve Visa and Mastercard censorship with crypto, you solve it with payment platform diversity. And you don't solve Discord with Matrix, you solve it with something with a design closer to IRC or XMPP.

@lina I agree with you in spirit, but I don’t think I could ever use IRC again with all its janky weirdness (I mean, usernames!).

But a spiritual successor to IRC would make sense.

@lina I like the idea of separating things and making them composable. Authentication isn’t part of the app, the UI isn’t part of the app, and apps and UI can integrate so you can have a wider set of working together services that can be swapped out.

Also there are a good number of people suggesting a literal move to IRC. So, yikes there.

Those were the days, email, IRC, and Usenet. But I don’t want to go back :)

There are few things funnier to me than a well timed cutaway mid-dialogue.

Character freaking out, repeating "no way, no way, no way, no wa-" and cut to the opening/ending right in the middle of a word?

Pretty much always gets a laugh out of me.

Am I simple? Perhaps. But I know who I am :zerotwohmph:

@neatchee Reminds me of the openings to IASIP. So many of them ends with a statement, and then it quickly cuts to the episode name. That’s the opposite.

I've been sleeping on Dad is a Hero, Mom is a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator and finally got around to it.

Started out cute and simple. Got real serious at about the halfway mark. I'm hooked.

Hopefully it finishes the season well. They've set up a really fascinating dynamic.

PSA TIME

Games, TV, and movies continue to perpetuate an incredibly dangerous trope and it's honestly terrible. If you are ever impaled by an object anywhere on your body, DO NOT REMOVE IT WITHOUT MEDICAL SUPERVISION

This is literally how Steve Irwin died. There is a good chance that the object is blocking the wound from bleeding profusely, and removing it can cause you to bleed out rapidly.

Leave that fucker where it is until you can receive medical care

I really wish media would stop showing people doing this as if they need to in order to walk away or find help. It's such a dangerous thing to teach people.

That’s what I like about Danny Trejo. If he plays a bad guy he does, no glorifying bad people. Simple stuff.

And very much don’t move people around, pull things out, and generally don’t do shit unless you actually know.

@anianimalsmoe Some of them must have played IRL before because it’s a lot more advanced than what I would expect. And that’s not a VTuber/Women thing. Most people can’t do any of this.

I hope they do this again, this is cool. Gotta give it to Filian, she’s pushing the envelope for sure.

(11-11 changes things. I think a 3-3 game is a much better choice for this.)

@kde That’s good news, X11 is pretty much unmaintained after all.

Hoping to see a push to get rid of the remaining bugs/holes left from the transition so it all gone by 2027. I’ve been stable on Wayland for years now, but I don’t venture into some of the problem areas.

    @vkc Have you tried the official forum? It’s possible to find some information there at times. Seen issues with controllers now and then. Sometimes there’s issues for a few releases as well.

    I have a PiMT32 I had to give up on, just utterly acted wrong all the time and that was it.:(

    @vkc The MiSTer is a fun piece of hardware but wow is it unforgiving :( It’s like the special port that looks like a USB but isn’t, but you can hook up other stuff there.

    @vkc YouTube is trying very hard to add more and more types of social media, and I think I’m not alone that it just feels intrusive. I want to watch videos. Not all the other stuff.

    But here I follow people and their text. So reading feels more natural, and polls fit in better.

    (Basically agreeing that the platform matters:) Also social media should be social imho.)

    @chikorita157 I think the value proposition is that it is guaranteed to run SteamOS. It’s for us that don’t want a computer next to the TV and don’t like gaming on a chair in front a desk (because I work like that all day).

    The price will be key. If its power/price ratio is in line with a PS5 Pro, then that’s good I’d say. As long as it’s quiet (my interest drops to zero for anything loud).

    If it goes above that it goes into “way too expensive PC malarkey” territory.

    But I fully expect that this is the last nail in XBox’s coffin. MS screwed up, big time. Consoles lives and dies by exclusives.

    At least it’s a positive development where they are trying something. I give them that.

    And is it connected to the new box or a by itself project?

    VR is a cool idea, but I haven’t seen any software that makes me want to use it. The PSVR2’s hardware is fantastic. No must play games. I’ve stopped looking for new releases.

    Apple also has amazing hardware, but no killer software.:(

    Does Valve have any killer VR software?

    Not aggressively against them or something. More of a “are there any VR winners at all?” type of a question.

    Occulus died to me what Meta bought them. No thanks.

    @anianimalsmoe @chikorita157 I like that part. It seems thought out. Plus up to date with tech (like rendering depending on where you look, no man’s sky did that for the PSVR2 and it greatly improved it).

    But the problem remain, where are the killer apps? The ones you just absolutely want/need.

    @chikorita157 From what I’ve heard it’s a reskin of an old game, and there’s a company inside the Pokemon umbrella that makes all the models for all the games.

    So the schedule to put the game together should probably be pretty stable. So pre-orders shouldn’t be too crazy for once.

    The card with a code only is a bummer. Zero point in buying those. Download is the obvious solution. Let’s face is physical is on its last leg.

    Was thinking of the game isekai trope of someone becoming their game character. They end up being called the same as that character.

    Lots of people have very dumb names for their characters. Imagine having to live and being called something dumb like that:)

    Anyone out there that knows of a dungeon crawler game that’s a tie in with an anime, but is actually good. Doesn’t have to be great, but shouldn’t be quickly thrown together MBA shovelware.

    No mobile games, and preferably on Switch. Cheap is a bonus:)

    (Because otherwise it’s Disgaea 7, which is a ten billion hours game.)

    @anianimalsmoe I’ve been eyeing SOA for that reason, hoping that one of the games could be good. I want all the tropes and a ton of equipment and spells and classes etc.

    Single player is always the way :)

    Apparently it doesn’t have any modern releases :( But it was ported/remade as Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment which could be played on the PS4 (and thus 5 pro). But I’ve got trails loaded up there. Oh dear.

    I hardware reset my automatic pet feeder because it was complaining about no wifi-connection. It was actually just unable to the brand's home server because of the AWS US-East 1 thing.

    Now I have two dead pet feeders until the issue is fixed. Should've left them to run using local configurations while the issue gets fixed.

    edit: Aaand after so many hours, I can finally initialize the pet feeders. I wonder how many man hours would it take to reverse engineer the software for this thing to make it not internet connected...
