The upgrade is noticeable, but meh. They shouldn’t be charging for it

spitfire ,

That’s so nice of them to charge for this. The download is 3MB so the assets are already on the cartdridge

I’ve done a similar thing using IKEA Samla Box (fits 6 rolls). With a few boxes of silica gel (dried periodically in my filament dryer) I can get it to stay relatively dry for a few weeks (goes from ~15 to ~25% in a few weeks).

Yeah, I loved that video :)

Do NOT buy Creality

I've been struggling with my K1 since Christmas. I bought it on sale for Black Friday and no matter who I contact at Creality, no one can tell me what replacement parts to order. K1 parts don't fit my printer. They want pictures to see what 'buckle' I have, because my serial number isn't enough information, but who wants to tear ...

spitfire ,

Different revisions. They’ve released K1C (with different parts in some places) after K1, but they didn’t do an official refresh for Max (which got some of the upgrades like new nozzle) silently. And there were at least a few extruder revisions in between.

Anchorage agreement is the the new Ribentropp-Molotov pact I guess

An Intel N100/150/200/250 based mini PC is a really low power (as in energy consumption) platform that is pretty good for PVE. Mini PCs based on the N100 tend to be inexpensive and a good alternative to the ones mentioned in other comments. The power draw is usually between 5-15W - depending on the load

Of course region locking is not an issue, a country with fascist regime is.

What to do with a roll of unprintable filament

I've got a roll of Blue Geeetech ABS+ that starts to smoke when it's still so cold that its layer adhesion is terrible, and just burns in the nozzle whenever it's not actively extruding if the temperature is high enough that it sticks to itself. Obviously, this is bad, and it sooted up a nozzle so badly that it needed to be ...

spitfire ,

Won’t hurt to ask, maybe they’ll just send you another one.

spitfire ,

They need to ban printer sales

spitfire ,

Of course. One can make a better knife, or just take one out of a kitchen drawer.

Still wth ancient rumble, just like the previous ones. Not for this price…

Helper script (2nd link) is easier to use. simple AF (first link) is fully open source, but requires you to use another bed leveling probe - no open source „driver” for prtouch- the built in one (which is slow and not terribly accurate anyway).

spitfire ,

Every Pokémon game has their current console in your room.

spitfire ,
spitfire ,

I don’t think so. I haven’t built mine yet. JSN comes with a pretty long cable, so you could but just the probe in your well and keep ESP above ground to have Wi-Fi. You could battery power the ESP32 and use deep sleep to conserve battery (you don’t need to have probe reading every second or minute, right?). You could even try to use solar power to charge the battery. Possibilities are endless.

I’m going to try to mount a probe in a sewage tank - I have a few cables left leading to it. That means I don’t have to worry about power or Wi-Fi - Esp32 i going to be at home, the probe and its control board inter sewage tank.

spitfire ,

They are at least resellable, which would not be true of pure digital. One could also argue that even regular media don’t always contain all the content needed to run the game (require a download to start it), and are not fit for archival purposes. I agree with other points. To me it’s especially stupid that you have to pay for your storage, and microSD express cards are not cheap (and games are getting pretty big, which is not weird).

spitfire ,

If they don’t have to, they won’t. It’s not like their competitors are any better.

spitfire ,

I had them replace it 3 times before I got a working one. By the time it was delivered I’ve returned my Ender 3 V3 KE and got…K1. I am much happier with it though, and I’ve even mounted that CR-Touch on it at się point;)

spitfire ,

Their software is somewhat open too, and you can root it unlike some other printers

spitfire ,

There are some companies that violate GPL. Guess what happens to them? Nothing (unfortunately).

spitfire ,

Did you get K1, K1C, K1 max or something else? Can you link to the parts you got/show their photos ?

spitfire ,

So is your printer using unicorn nozzles (https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EHOujRQ)? I believe K1C and maybe some newer builds of K1/Max came with those. I have switched to CHCB-OT (https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EJhmisG) it has a good flow and easy to find nozzles (MK8).

spitfire ,

I don’t one why you’re asking me these questions.
The link works for me - maybe it’s your adblocker.
I believe it was only the extruder that was different. Creality support was pretty bad, but I’ve pressed them to eventually send me replacement parts when I needed them

spitfire ,

Good luck with that, they don’t care too much about respecting OSS licensing either. Aside from that I’m enjoying my K1 - after I’ve modified it ;)

spitfire ,

Here’s another hotend link, the old one was dead indeed: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EQs5RNi
You can get very cheap MK8 nozzles for it, or get some better ones too. The hardened steel ones can handle the CF filaments really well, I’ve been using one for over a year now.

spitfire ,

No worries. I’ve sent you updated link in another comment.

spitfire ,

Also preheating and waiting before bed leveling helps. These beds are wobbly. I’ve put a glass bed on top of the factory one on my K1

3 things that help me with PETG when it comes to separate it from the plate:

  1. Glue (yes, really)
  2. Cooling it off (sometimes putting the plate with leftovers on the freezer)
  3. Olfa scraper (at a right angle to not scratch the plate)
spitfire ,

I’m actually using spray glue (3dlac) usually with a textured PEI (rarely a smooth PEI) plate. I’m also using PET/PEO (double sided) plate with PETG (without glue) - adhesion is really good, but not too good (so it’s easy to clean).

spitfire ,

Yeah, I dry my filament (especially PETG) with one of those too. I don’t have to use glue, it just makes PETG easier to remove from the plate. Otherwise it can stick to the plate too well (had a case where I removed the model with some of the PEI coating).

spitfire ,

Exactly what I’m talking about, this is why I’m using glue. If you’re talking about a textured plate it’s probably PEI

Corp0 speak

Ordered my first 3d printer (ender 3 v3). What filaments should I buy why they're on sale for black Friday?

I already ordered 1kg hyper pla white from creality ($8). What else I can buy during black Friday? I'm not sure what I'll be printing other than trinkets and household items. These are the ones I currently have in my cart. Please let me know your thoughts and advice. ...

spitfire ,

Yup, try PETG, it’s pretty versatile and resistant to most things (aside from very high temperatures).

spitfire ,

Eryone and Jayo are pretty good (and cheap) too. I didn’t have issues with Tecbears PLA I got from Amazon

spitfire ,

I’ve used both. PCTG is much more expensive than PETG (which is one of the filaments you can get very cheap), and does not offer that much over it. Unless you need something with (very slightly) better impact and temperature resistance PETG is way to go. If you need much better impact/temperature resistance ASA/PA is the way to go. I’m using PETG+CF if I need more durability and temperature resistance than the plain one, but avoid CF for stuff I have to touch a lot.

spitfire ,

I am aware of that, but usually Jayo branded filament is cheaper ;)

spitfire ,

Im Poland you can get PETG for <30 zł, PCTG for ~80. PETG-CF for a little bit more than the plain one.

spitfire ,

I’ve printed a lot of Jayo PETG, and aside from having to dry it before use,
it was fine (and very cheap).

spitfire ,

I think I was getting Jayo PETG from AliExpress. As for PCTG it was from Rosa3D - you can get it directly from them or through Allegro

spitfire ,

I’m using this one, it’s fine. The fact it has PoE makes it better for me than the ZBT2. After they’ve released ZWA I was sure they’d make a PoE capable Zigbee coordinator.

spitfire ,

Also: run your HA on something that makes more sense than Pi. For a little more you can run a much more powerful N100/150 based mini PC with very similar power draw.

spitfire ,

I don’t think it has the power draw of an N100/N150-based machine (10-15W), but it’s not a huge power hungry server either.

spitfire ,

I guess you can play these on Steam Deck (and similar), but they are far less mobile than Switch.

Proxmox host stops responding, LXC continues

I'm running Proxmox 9 on a server with currently a single LXC running. On no apparent time schedule, within a day but frequently within an hour, the host will stop responding to SSH, pings and the web UI stops updating. However, the LXC continues to run happily. The only way to bring the host back up is to power cycle the ...

spitfire ,

There you go :) I’ve had a Pi running Tailscale and it ws not reachable using its local IP (it was accessible when using Tailscale IP) when Tailscale was started. When I was using Tailscale for site-to-site connectivity (subnet router) I ran it in an LXC container on PVE, so I’d advise you try that. Avoiding installation of additional software on the hypervisor seems like a smart idea - whenever I can I put stuff in containers/VMs.
