Music from the 1970s that remans timeless, no.31

Lou Reed. Walk on the Wild Side

Lou Reed's classic tale of transgression in New York is driven by a wonderful bit of bass playing from legendary session musician Herbie Flowers with a shuffling drum accompaniment; both acting as a perfect foil for Reed's conversational vocals. When you add the backing singers, strings & the sax solo at the end, this is just sublime.
(Transformer, the LP its on is great too)

sibrosan ,
@sibrosan@mastodon.social avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 The track actually has two bass lines, both played by Flowers. First, he recorded on an acoustic upright bass, and then he added overdubbing using an electric bass, with spectacular result.

When I wrote the last script, I expected to call my video "Ukraine takes the war to Russia". But YouTube has just released a new test tool, that allows me to test 3 different titles to see which one you, the viewers, are most interested in.

    Language question:

    In Danish, when I want the audience to form a mental image of something, I can say "Forestil dig at" which translates to "Place this mental image in front of you".

    Similarly in English, I have noticed the use of "Imagine that…", as in "Imagine that an old man walks in the door". But I really dislike the use of the word "imagine", because it sounds like what I am describing is pure fantasy.

    Could I instead say "picture that…" or is there an even better phrase?

    Owl in a bowl

    Vets at Wellington Zoo cared for this Ruru Morepork chick before its release. Donation link for those willing and able to support their work: https://wellingtonzoo.com/support-us/donate/?reference=owlsintowels.org

    The same owl wrapped like a burrito, no longer in its bowl... it is likely being transferred either to or from said bowl. The vet staff is behind the owl, mostly out of frame wearing a red tee bearing the zoo logo.
    This is the same owl in the same bowl, but many weeks prior. Its juvenile white fluffy down feathers are much more conspicuous in this picture, making its tiny head poking out from the towel appear grey and floofy. The scale reads 175.59. Presumably the unit is grams. It is not clear if the combined tare weight (of the tea towel and bowl) has been brought into account.
