This TED talk is really important.

Miles Taylor shows how the wrath of Trump places a target on the backs of those who speak the truth. This silences people, but there is a way around it — and Miles Taylor presents the brilliant solution:

Listen to it. It sounds fine, but that's not really how it works.

What gets normies to engage is neighbor to neighbor conversations. It's grabbing friends and family by the arm and dragging them along to a protest or local grassroots group meeting. It's grassroots organizing.

Could a vaccine prevent dementia? Shingles shot data only getting stronger.
Latest data hints that benefits seen so far could be underestimates.

Glad I got my Shingles vaccinations (2 dose regimen 2 months apart) after the newer, more effective vaccine became available.

The US State of the Union speech is held tonight at 9 p.m. eastern time, which is at 03:00 Wednesday morning in Copenhagen, Berlin, Vienna, Rome.

While The House in Washington has most meetings during the day, The State of the Union Speech is held at night to ensure the maximum number of live tv viewers.

This particular speech will be watched with interest as Trump is in conflict with both foreign allies, a majority of US voters, and even many members of his own party.

Armin was once one of the most prolific programmers in Python. Says he never writes code anymore. Seeing more and more people like him write stuff like this on what are supposedly computer programming forums. https://lobste.rs/s/qmjejh/ai_is_slowly_munching_away_my_passion#c_jcgdju

Notably, once a person crosses this threshold, I see them still hang out on programming forums, but they never talk about any of the puzzles of programming anymore. Only about running agents. Which feels strange and sad. Why hang out on the forums at all then?

Nothing quite like it when students (at any level) get it and let you know.

Republicans’ voter suppression bills passed the House, but they can't get through the Senate without Democratic votes. Contact your senators and tell them to stop the GOP’s attack on our voting rights: https://indivisible.org/actions/stop-save-senate/?source=mastodon

As per the Hands Off Our Vote guidance from the Freedom Over Fascism folks (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HbIGsb3vNzcPzw39xOuELBOqE4txLD3FBHX57nimppo/), we should be calling this bill what it actually is, the Stop US Citizens From Voting Act, and talk about it this way.

Talk about the direct impact on citizens, stopping us from voting, from deciding who will represent us.

You don’t need to be an activist to organize against the regime. There’s a role for everyone to play in the pro-democracy movement.

@indivisibleteam .

Really important message for everyone who may think I can't do "that".
There is pretty much always something else that needs someone who can do it.
There's a role for everyone who thinks what's happening in Minneapolis, and also in towns and cities across America is wrong.
Ask at your house of worship, at the community food bank, at the thrift store, at your neighborhood civic group, and at a local Indivisible group which you can find via https://Indivisible.org.

    Apparently not any more than you need to worry about increasingly fast non-AI scripted attacks which you definitely need to be not just worried about, but addressing.

    The US gov is shutdown but the idiocrats are getting paid, yikes

    Isn't it an idea to collectivly stop paying taxing?

    The vast majority of income taxes are collected by employers and automatically sent to the appropriate level of government. It is possible for employees to submit a change of withholding and bring it to zero and then not pay their taxes, but that is an awful lot of effort across an awful lot of people that isn't going to happen.

    What can happen is for Democratic run state and local governments ...

    Remember when we were all worried that Huawei had filled our telecoms infrastructure with listening devices and killswitches? It sure would be dangerous if a corporation beholden to a brutal autocrat became structurally essential to your country's continued operations, huh?

    Absent blocking entire websites where such apps would reside, there's no way I'm aware of for an OS to prevent using an "app" residing on a web server.

    If we get to the point where the government is forcing blocking of websites, we've got far bigger problems.

    As scary as all that is, and it's very scary, thoughts on how existing geopolitical power structures could be disrupted by widespread availability of energy that's an order of magnitude cheaper than today?

    Mike Johnson and other key Republicans trying to mischaracterize the No Kings protests as a "hate America rally", really shows how scared they are, that the American people will now demonstrate that the majority is not behind the fascist Trump regime.

    The more who turn out Saturday, the more the movement against fascism will grow. For the sake of the future of US democracy, I truly hope we see millions.

    The pictures now coming out of Gaza are truly shocking, and I ask all Israelis: “Who is going to pay for what your government has done?”

    This is not the aftermath of a “hunt for terrorists”. This is the aftermath of indiscriminate bombings.

    Your politicians let this happen. So who is now going to pay for this? Will Netanyahu pay this out of his own pocket? Does this fall on the Israeli tax payers?

    Who do you expect to pay?

    joeinwynnewood ,
    @joeinwynnewood@mstdn.social avatar

    @randahl

    The US who supplied most of the bombs and Israeli government officials who gave the orders (and maybe their rabid right supporters) should (personally) foot the bill, but most likely the ridiculously wealthy Gulf monarchies will pay for most of it.

    Not an entirely unjust outcome given their longstanding ambivalence about the plight of Palestinians.
