Some folks at tried to buy the makeshift hats one of our team members brought, so I arranged for this prototype of an official hat to be made. It's a fisherman beanie with our logo embroidered. I'm trying to gauge interest here. Is this something you'd buy? (Poll in follow-up post)

Whats currently (as of January 2026) the most functional, stable, boring phone + OS combination?

I have a PinePhone from a few years ago and a couple Pixels to play around with.

It turned out that Copilot was not merely learning from private repos, it was reportedly distributing them as if they were party favors. The user had not realized that the definition of an "AI pair programmer" extended to "unauthorized code distributor." 🤣 the GitHub user should perhaps feel flattered that their proprietary data was deemed worth sharing 😂

I needed to rotate a PDF. I know how to do this on Mac and Linux but not Windows. I had to do it on Windows. It turns out Acrobat charges money for this and Firefox's PDF editor can't do it at all. I download "Foxit" which I remember being good at one time. After downloading it turns out Foxit also charges money for this, also every few seconds they pester you to use "AI". I uninstall Foxit. Although I never assigned PDF associations to Foxit, uninstalling Foxit reassociates PDFs to MS Edge

In the past Foxit would let you do that, but I don't think I've touched it in 15 years.

Honestly, I think GIMP might be the best FLOSS way to do it on Windows.

We are using Microsoft Visual Studio Code on MacOS. There is a file "launch.json" which controls the behavior of a little clicky green triangle. The top of launch.json says "version": "0.2.0".

Claims when "type" is "dotnet", you may use a "cwd" key to specify the CWD of the run executable. However, for us, this does not work. Visual Studio displays an error on that part of the JSON, and running it, the "cwd" directory seems to be ignored.

Why?

Property cwd is not allowed. No quick fixes available

@dangillmor Extremely disappointing. Unfortunately it's not very surprising, but it is very disappointing.

This isn't to celebrate a military victory or to serve as a memorial; just a parade on his birthday to stroke his massive, delicate go.

I shouldn't be, but I am surprised at how quietly most of us have accepted it and at how many are enthusiastic about it without seeing the irony.

Managed to burn several layers of skin off both of my thumbs recently (through thick gloves while holding a very hot steam hose). It's been three weeks now that biometric (thumb) authentication for all my devices stopped recognizing my hamburger thumbs, which are so covered in crusty new and old layers of skin that texting feels like I've got cleats on my thumbs. Fun times.

    In light of GitHub going full genAI agents, which will likely lead to a flood of garbage PRs that will make dependabot nags a joke:

    Would other foss maintainers with projects on GitHub be interested in some kind of event where we all get together and try moving our projects over to @Codeberg ?

    I’m thinking of it as a way to both promote our foss projects, provide mutual support during the moves, find solutions to small cuts we run into along the way, and just generally have fun together?

    Stuck in an airport for an upsetting reason so I'm reading about Ada "Spark". This is a first glance gut feeling but it seems like a lot of the restrictions Spark places on Ada are restrictions that Rust places on most or all code. I wonder if that means applying Spark-style proofs on top of Rust would be easier than some other languages

    I IRC is lacking features people want (without extra tooling), but there are plenty of other choices.

    We are currently suffering from another network-level DDoS attack, connectivity via IPv4 is impacted.

    If you are able to use IPv6 you should be able to have good connectivity to Codeberg.

    We are currently working on a DDoS mitigation solution for the IPv4 route.
