Writing a program to teach programming is NOTHING like writing a program. Here is a binary conversion program 5th graders can understand. First I tell them we are making a program that will check the ages of people in a family. You must be over 10 to ride the roller coaster.

ages = [45, 50, 4, 13, 62, 21, 7]

for a in ages:
if a>=10:
print(a, "is old enough!")
else:
print(a, "is", 10-a, "years too young to ride!")

Clunky right? Well here comes the binary:

I think New Urbanism is mutating into New Suburbanism. Aka strip malls with integrated apartment buildings. Little mixed use complexes out in the middle of empty space. A gorgeous view from your condo balcony of a walmart. It’s so weird.

ICYMI, Joe Menn had a good scoop this week about how the US govt is getting set to ban TP-Link devices from being sold in the United States. If that happens, a whole lot of small businesses will probably need to find new networking gear. I have never trusted TP-Link devices and have repeatedly warned readers away from them. They have a history of flooding the market with massively underpriced hardware, and this is a market where generally speaking the cheapest means the most hackable. Here's one reply I sent to a reader in 2023 who inquired about finding what appeared to be an undocumented cloud login page.

@markzero I’ve seen here there are lots of little comedic trends and word games that have a hashtag associated with them (meta tagged “ ). I just don’t know what tag would be in use for this, if any. Having only encountered it via screenshots on IG, i have no idea how to go find more here.
