That's it for tonight. Thanks for asking, answering, reading & discussing. And for the questions!
Send any Q's for next week with the BikeNitePQ tag. 2 Q's are in the queue still and will be asked next week. If I've missed your question before, please send again; I might have lost the post.
<500 characters please; I may shorten to fit in the scheduler.
Reply, boost and favorite to keep it going. Thanks for being a part of this community. And you can follow #BikeNite, if you haven't yet.
I've a riding buddy who won't join us if any proposed route has more than a few steps of hike-a-bike. Perhaps relating to off-road riding more than other cycling disciplines, but..
Q7. Do you draw a line as to how much pushing/carrying is acceptable on a bike ride?
Q6. If you carry a U-lock to lock up your bike, what is your carrying method? Do you use a frame bracket? Just stick it in a bag? Something different and creative? There should be bonus points for photos of clever methods!
It's a holiday week here in the US. But we still have our next #BikeNite this Friday at 4pm Pacific standard time (UTC-8).
This is our weekly call for questions. Reply with any you'd like me to add to the discussion on Friday. Please add the BikeNitePQ hashtag so it's easier to find a Proposed Question. There is room for more!
Have you heard about Schwalbe's new Clik valves?
@MartyCormack asks:
I have 4 bikes with Presta and 1 with Schrader valves. I have several floor pumps, hand pumps, tire gauges, CO2 cartridge adapters and a power mini pump. Many those might be obsolete if I were to switch to Clik valves.
Q3. Can anyone explain the benefit of Clik valves?
Has anyone switched?
Q2. Are there any US bicycle trailers (feel free to chime in for your non-EU country) that are similarly sized or advertised as holding standard crates? In particular, I want solid-sided crates like these which keep dust out.
Our community discussion #BikeNite starts in about an hour, at 4pm Pacific (UTC-7). I post cycle-y questions w/ Q1, Q2, Q3; if you answer w/ A1, A2, A3, etc, it's easier to match.
Tag #BikeNite if you want your answer to be more discoverable; follow it to see questions & replies in your feed. Boost & reply to replies to keep the discussion going.
(You can follow the BikeNiteQ tag so questions are easier to find, but don't include this in your answers)
Q6. Does anyone have recommendations for bicycle helmet lights for visibility both front and rear? I need velcro or other non-permanent mounts, and for the mounts (with the light(s) off) to be low profile enough that I can get a helmet cover over them, and I don't want heavy stuff. I'm happy with one light, two lights, or two connected lights.
My wife doesn't like cycling because she finds saddles very uncomfortable (partly due to a broken coccyx as a child). I'd love to go on rides together, so looking for recommendations.
Q5. Are there any comfy saddles designed for women, or just least bad options?
Q8. Do you have a photo to share from a ride or of something cycle-related from the past week? It doesn't have to be anything special. If you'd like to, share one and tell us about it!
