I agree. However while incresed pricing isn't that big of a deal, I feel it comes at the end of a long chain of other penny-pinching methods, like gacha, mtx, pay2win, always online for data mining and so on. If this raise would've happened first, then you'd just have to buy a more expensive game and that would've been it. As it stands you're getting shafted on price as well as all the other crap ideas they had in the meantime.

And some non-GOG gems, to continue this trend:

Elite: Dangeous - best space-sim out there, no other comes close. Also one of the few live-service games with a great community around it.

Anno 2205 - Seem by many as the black sheep in the anno series, it's still a great game with a fantastic future vibe.

Craft the world ( hey, it's also on gog ) - dwarf fortress like game

Civilization: Beyond Earth - Firaxis' attempt at a contemporary Alpha Centauri, based on the Civ 5 engine. Great game in itself, with some great ideas. Also gets a lot of hate for some reason.

Planetbase ( also on gog ) - Great space-colony builder

absquatulate ,

Yeah, I was rounding things a bit. Great year for gaming

absquatulate ,

1800 did not have that nimby mechanic. Actually can't remember if any anno game had it ( maybe 1701 ). 1800 also did away with the separation between campaign and endless and just mooshed them together in what was one of the very few downsides of the game.

To me this one looks less like an anno and more like a contemporary Impressions city builder, but the potential is there. Fingers crossed that ubi doesn't stuff it full of anti-features.

Smartphones are common targets for thieves because they contain valuable personal data and fetch high prices on second-hand markets. To protect this data, Android includes theft protection features that lock down a stolen phone. While thieves might try wiping phones they intend to sell, Android already has robust protections against unauthorized factory resets. Google announced today that these factory reset protections will become even more powerful later this year.

Self-contradicting much?

These justifications are pointless anyway, everybody knows that google and only google has the right to rummage through your data.

"We will not allow you to reset the data until we can confirm that the data is yours"

absquatulate ,

Wtf kind of lazy attempt to normalize nuclear war is this, uk??? Jesus tapdancing christ

absquatulate ,

This is rich lol, coming from one of the most totalitarian leaders russia has ever had

absquatulate ,

You wouldn't shoot a policeman! And then steal his helmet!

absquatulate ,

Damn antisemites are everywhere!

absquatulate ,

Not sure if gog has anything to do with privacy. Altho if it was on the list I imagine it'd be up there with steam ( not sure why that one's on the list either )

absquatulate ,

He'll probably sit on 40% of the votes by the end of the count. It's pretty fuckin grim.

absquatulate , (edited )

About as fair as you can hope for in this country, I suppose. I imagine the large parties pulled all the stops and still couldn't grab more than 20%. And I know they didn't covertly support Simion (yet) because last night they were pissed.

absquatulate ,

The "sovereignists" had about 30% of the parliament already, but I imagine it was the decision to cancel the first set of elections that tipped the scales. Heard of plenty of people that decided to vote Simion out of sheer spite after that stunt.

absquatulate ,

Yup. Kadikoy in Istanbul

absquatulate ,

So now can we please get the other games that were supposed to launch in autumn?

absquatulate ,

Yea, pretty sure this is AI gen

absquatulate ,

OP updated the image. Latest one definitely looks like a naked neck

absquatulate ,

Yeah, I'm taking this loop off. If I see this one more time I'm gonna lose it.

Next year is a mayoral election year, so all this feels like political posturing to me. I don't doubt that the "diesel lobby" wasn't pleased with her changes, but the way she tells it smells like victimization. Also having a car-less approach to running a city is not exactly controversial in the year of our lord 2025. There are a lot of cities that pioneered car-less city design before she got into office ( altough in her defense, this kind of change may be harder to implement in extra large metropolitan areas like Paris ). Oh, and another thing: she's been in office 11 years and traffic-wise the city hasn't changed much outside the central touristy areas. You'd think she could've done a lot more in that kind of time. I go through the city every now and then and I feel the only thing that changed is the growing number of trikes and motorcycles on the periferiques. Maybe someone from Paris can chime in on her actual accomplishments?

absquatulate ,

Yes, I'm sure they're the first and this is totally not a paid article.

absquatulate ,

Ooh, I'm getting this. Everspace 2 was a great game and in my mind a true spiritual succesor to Freelancer.

absquatulate , (edited )

Are HMDs really more repairable? Most recent phone they had that tried to be repairable was Skyline and even there it was pretty limited. And btw that one didn't have a jack either.

absquatulate ,

Man, I remember seeing this as a kid in an 1982(1980?) edition of the german AutoKatalog and it friggin blew my mind. It felt so out of this world.

absquatulate ,

I think the guy in the video is a bit late to the fallout 4 hate train. It was all I heard for the first year or so after launch. It's been 10 years, fuckin' move on.

As for the game, I wouldn't call it garbage. No, it wasn't as good as people expected, it wasn't a great rpg or a great fallout game, but it was a pretty good video game. I had a lot of fun with it and periodically replay it because I fuckin' enjoy it. Funny enough, I'm also in the minority that thinks NV was not as good as Fallout 3, so take that as you will.

absquatulate ,

Yeah, I've heard "F4 is a good game but a bad fallout game" a lot and tend to agree.

But I'm not going to watch clickbaity videos that go "x game is crap" a decade after it came out. The discussion is more nuanced than that, I know it and he knows it.

According to organizers of Sunday’s rally, some 5,000 to 8,000 people were expected to attend the event, soberly titled “Save Democracy,” with a fleet of 20 buses and nine mini-buses to bring in more supporters. During his speech, National Rally President Jordan Bardella claimed 10,000 people were present.

Same MO as when they took out kremlin's candidate in Romania. Because nothing says "save democracy" like a manufactured protest with paid party members and acolytes.

absquatulate ,

Nice! I thought development stopped for Galacticare

absquatulate ,

I know it's cool to hate on this game, especially with it being so mediocre, but to me the number is fairly meaningless by itself. I wonder how that 2 million budget compares to other large releases ( say Starfield, since it's pretty clear that bethesda also pumped a lot of money into the "gaming press")

absquatulate ,

Why should it matter if the new users are all magas or not?

absquatulate ,

It's not just perception, it's mindless tribalism and it's a form of bigotry in itself. It's no better than doing things to "own the libs" or whatever.

And the irony, some express this attitude on lemmy, which unlike signal is an actual platform, not a chat app, and with tankie roots to top it off.

It is what it is, I suppose.

absquatulate ,

Isn't this the rule with every civ launch? They're all somewhat half-baked on launch (although 7 admittedly looks quite a bit less baked than the others).

That said, I feel Civ formula seems to be in decline. To me Call To Power was peak civ ( yeah, fight me ), but while 3,4 and 5 were great "second-bests", I couldn't really get into 6 and I'm not really planning on playing 7 ( not with this 3-age format anyway ).

absquatulate ,

Seventh mullet...locked!

absquatulate ,

I was wondering when microsoft would start putting the screws to steam.

Mark my words, soon it'll be a requirement to have the xbox app to run your steam stuff ( or smth similar )

absquatulate ,

Plastic may be so, but glass recycling has been a thing for decades (depending on where you are), aliminium recycling is all well, same for paper (if grease free) There's also wooden alternatives for a lot of plastic/silicon stuff, and wood can be reused/burned/mulched.

So in a way it IS your responsibility - to give up plastic

absquatulate ,

This is so strange. Wasn't it not long ago that studios were crowding into very specific release windows ( usually november iirc ) so they could maximize initial sales? Maybe the digital release era has changed things. I mean, I get it if your game was in the same niche or smth, but "companies might tank" seems a little much.

Either way, if this is true, eoy 2025 is in for a dry spell when it comes to new games.

Edit: Also I find it hilarious how all these "industry analysts" keep popping up suggesting ominous things despite Rockstar not saying a peep about the game besides the trailer. Almost as if they were paid to do it.

absquatulate , (edited )

It's a good game. I replayed it a lot throughout its lifetime and wouldn't say they pulled an NMS or even some redemption arc, but they definitely fixed a lot of it, at least compared to 1.0-1.2, and they even reworked some systems. The storyline and sideplots have largely remained the same (thankfully) and they also added a pretty good DLC with a nice thick plot (albeit somewhat disconnected from the game).

Edit: It's fairy processor-heavy, you'll need a contemporary CPU.

Day 245 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games l've been playing until l forget to post Screenshots

I have finished Red Dead 2's story completely. This has got to be one of my favorite games in recent memory. They could have just stopped it at Arthur's death and brushed over everything that happened to John in between the games, but instead they gave us this amazing 2 Epilogues that perfectly tie the two games together. ...

absquatulate ,

Funny, I went blind into RDR2 and, not knowing about John's story, the epilogues felt so weird and out of place. I still can't really get into his story, maybe because on a subconscious level it feels like it broke the closure I had from Arthur's. But yeah, RDR2 really is a fantastic game. They nailed pretty much everything.

absquatulate ,

As with all impromptu lists, this one is pretty flawed. For example, as much as I love it, lineageOS is not useful for "digital independence" in any meaningful sense, since it's just a more cleaned up version of android. Or PeerTube, which can't really be considered a realistic alternative to yt. It's fine in itself, but it's so small and so hard to scale that you might just be better off giving up the yt format altogether. And then there's Thunderbird. I love it but it's a CLIENT, you'll still need a mail provider.

Romania election commission excludes second far-right presidential candidate ( www.lemonde.fr )

She has been accused of spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda and anti-Semitic views. Known for opposing anti-Covid measures during the pandemic, she was expelled from the chamber of the European Parliament in Strasbourg in July 2024 after loudly interrupting debates. Her small party, SOS Romania, won 24 seats after securing some 7% ...

absquatulate ,

This may have been strictly procedure, since she was already banned once, from running in the first election run. But yes, when she was banned initially, the reasons were extremely vague ( russian interference and whatnot ) and haven't gotten any better.

absquatulate ,

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, this pretty much confirms that the leading parties have been colluding to manipulate elections. The ideal situation would have been him getting his ass whoopped by being voted out. On the other, there was a non-zero chance that he might actually have won.

Either way, the shitshow is not even close to being over. These parties make up 32% of our current parliament, and they're likely to grow after this stunt, so we'll have to deal with this crap again during the next election cycle, or sooner.

absquatulate ,

This is so sad. I thought the whole paper mail infrastructure was essentially eternal due to its importance.

Letter numbers have fallen since the start of the century from 1.4 billion to 110 million last year.

110 million is still A LOT of paper letters. Shame the service will be gone.

PostNord has weathered years of financial struggles and last year was running a deficit.

Again, I thought this was a national strategic resource, regardless of profit. Over here in europe's armpit the national post has been running at a loss for nigh on 40 years, and it's still kept afloat, for better or worse.

absquatulate ,

I would be tempted to say that it will now turn to shit, but in Discord's case it was pretty shit already.

absquatulate ,

I'm still bitter about that whole debacle. CS never really clicked with me, so after trying ever other contemporary city sim under the sun I went back to playing SC4, but only every now and then. Goddamn, Simcity was so good and what EA did was a fuckin crime.

absquatulate ,

The game is not without its flaws, but goddamn if it doesn't look, sound and feel fantastic.

absquatulate ,

Can't say I'm surprised. There were credible rumous that the US pressured our gvt to release them. Word on the street is that they "traded" handing these two over in exchange for the US shutting up about the arrest of the russian puppet candidate. These both happened in the same day, so there may some truth to that. Honestly this wouldn't feel like that bad of a deal - one manchurian candidate for two instagram pimps. It's immoral, cowardly and corrupt, but these are the times we're living in.

Just remember this every time a US official blabbers stuff about other countries' election interference.

absquatulate ,

Times square? Damn, I thought they were strapped for cash and barely profitable.

Good for them I suppose, but just remember that corps are not your friends. Even GOG is part of a stockmarket-listed entity that has fiduciary duties and can turn to crap in an instant. Keep your games offline and archived folks.

absquatulate ,

It looks dramatic, but afaik the old GDR states have much lower pop and density. Unless germany starts some funny business with electors and whatnot, i daresay this is not that bad of a result.

absquatulate ,

Interesting, indeed. Maybe it's a form of nostalgia? We still have plenty of people missing the comunists in my country, usually folk that had it better during the regime. But I never heard "we felt like we lost the war".
