Enjoy when humans are using machines in unexpected ways. I break stuff and I do stuff. Paperbay.org is my chaotic librarian side and the server is operated by yours truly. I do photography, painting and many other things...

Continuing the superpower suicide, the US loses control of all operational command centers in NATO.
Even the American command center in Norfolk will now be run by Europe.

🤡 "… all because of Biden!"

@randahl Initially Norfolk took over the Baltic area some months ago which was controlled from Netherlands and then later the Norfolk one is back to EUCOM. Difficult to keep a hand in your military marketplace when you actually dislike NATO.

When I see policymakers complain about ‘reinventing the wheel in open source,’ they forget it’s actually a strength. It prevents concentration and monopolies. Diversity is key.

@db0 If people want to contribute to other projects, that’s great. But forcing them to work on projects they don’t want to be involved in won’t work. It’s better if they actually produce something and release it as open source than keep it in a drawer.

Interesting concept for validating instances to reduce potential spam and maintain a trusted directory.

I stopped using Reddit because the company was feeding my words into a large language model, and I stopped using StackOverflow because the company was feeding my words into a large language model, and I will stop using Discord if the company starts feeding my words into a large language model

@mcc The web is indexed by design, that's part of its original purpose. Model training is a collateral effect of open protocols. Being against indexing feels at odds with the idea of an open web, doesn’t it?

🚨 Let’s Encrypt at risk from Trump cuts to OTF: “Let’s Encrypt received around $800,000 in funding from the OTF”

Dear @EUCommission , get your heads out of your arses and let’s find @letsencrypt €1M/year (a rounding error in EU finances) and have them move to the EU.

If Let’s Encrypt is fucked, the web is fucked, and the Small Web is fucked too. So how about we don’t let that happen, yeah?

(In the meanwhile, if the Let’s Encrypt folks want to make a point about how essential they are, it might be an idea to refuse certificates to republican politicians. See how they like their donation systems breaking in real time…)

@aral

The main problem is the bureaucracy associated for this. Another issue is the ownership control of the organisation (DEP Cybersecurity), the organisation needs to be controlled by EU citizen and located in EU.

@aral I really would like to share your optimism too.

If I can help in some ways, let me know. I was tracking the RFA budget withdraw and wondering how long OTF can survive without the funding.

So, we know that X has been abusing its algorithms to push far-right content for years. The DSA procedure started in 2023, and now we’re seeing fascist content being amplified during the German elections…

We have a fundamental problem in enforcing regulations, and it's working against us.

The Fedora Project is looking for a new git forge to move to, and right now the preference is toward @forgejo over GitLab. We're looking for feedback one more time from the community before the Fedora Council has a vote on it!
