I went the Heltec V4 route and DIY'ed and it was not difficult. I am happy to share more if you are interested and DM me.

The Heltec V4 is power hungry compared to others but also has the most power for TX(some firmware shenanigans makes this not always the case but it is improving). If you do not care so much about long battery life it is a great option. To give perspective with a 3000 mah battery I am still lasting days.

Bigboye57 ,

With GPS but not connected to my phone constantly, I have been pretty happy with battery life.

Bigboye57 ,

I am interested about that big ass pot. Was this a drive in camp spot or did you lug that beast with you?

Bigboye57 ,

I think you may be looking at the wrong Greg Brown, as there are two popular musicians with that name.

The cake Greg Brown looks to of been born in 1969 or 1970.

Bigboye57 ,

I love a good Hamme film. Thanks for putting this together and I will jump in this week.

Bigboye57 ,

I am a sucker for kaiju films. I am there.

Russula with a frosted look to the cap.

Sort of similar to the white coating on a blueberry where touching it leaves a mark. I don't think I've seen this on any other Russula or other mushroom I've come across and was wondering if there is a term for this. If I was smarter I'd have put it under the scope to take a look at the very surface. I don't think it was just ...

Bigboye57 ,

Hey Magpie, mind sharing the region the mushroom was found and I will do some digging in the books.

I have similar purple Russula in Northern Indiana and I know I hunted down a species once.

Bigboye57 ,

I broke out my keys and there are a handful that fit the bill based off what I can gather from your photo, so I won't venture a guess. That white powder though is a common trait called "bloom" for some Russula. Cool stuff I have never seen that in Indiana before. Beautiful picture.

I can see why you gave up on Russula ID's. I kept coming across a wide range of colors for species. From purple to olive for the same species! Mushrooms are so strange and that is why they are fun.

I watched every Evil Bong movie in October. It was enjoyable but man were some stinkers part way through the run. I will forever think of those terrible songs they slapped across the series "God Smokes weed" being at the top. Favorite part is they must of hit up the local strip club every time shooting started for the naked Girls, they are different every time.

I'll chalk up Evil Bong 666 as my favorite.

2025 Retrospective Roundup Top 3 Knife Countdown Thing

As this year draws to a close in just a few short days, now is the time to pour ourselves a drink and spend a wintry evening by the fire reminiscing on what we've done. All while using the opportunity to crank out a low effort clipshow style post retreading ground we've already covered. ...

Bigboye57 ,

I ended up grabbing a Penguin after your review. I am loving the sheep's foot profile. Thanks for all the effort you put in here.

The Revo Nexus: OK, Clanker!

Alright, my merry waddlers. How's your Christmas going? Spending some quality time with the family, or maybe having yourself a little R&R? Well, here's how I'm spending mine: By shitposting about knives on the internet, as usual. Because that's just the kind of no-social-life-having predictable son of a bitch that I am. ...

Bigboye57 ,

Is Colorado a hotbed of knife manufacturing?

Bigboye57 ,

Merry Christmas my friend. Thank you for the write up as always. The allure of a set of three knives probably was enough to still get plenty of these guys sold.

Bigboye57 OP ,

Ole boy Shep checking them out.

Dog

Bigboye57 ,

EXCELLENT. I love schlock and somehow this was far more tasteful then many b movies out there.

Bigboye57 ,

If they could have integrated the belly tattoo from the one and true Pliskin I would "bite". https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d633c133-e147-4568-ad61-fb778e011a35.jpeg

With the white spores this is likely an Armillaria sp.

Bigboye57 ,

I am working on Alan Moore's run of Swamp thing. I love the art style of the time, nice and simple with bold colors.

Bigboye57 OP ,

This would be one hell of an amanita! This guy is 12 inch across. It turned more yellow over time, I think this is just a vibrant process of spores being formed in the tissue. It was very interesting to watch.

Bigboye57 ,

When I was young and broke, I went on a backpacking trip in Washington State. I did not have checked luggage so I needed to buy a knife once I landed. I rolled into Walmart in the middle of the night as that was the cheapest flight. I asked the 18 year old, likely counter strike obsessed, behind the counter to give me the cheapest knife they had. I was given a karambit, for some reason I rolled with it. Thankfully I never had to defend myself from a mountain lion or bear with that as I do not think I would of gotten far. I did however kinda feel like a ninja so it was not all bad.

The ole soil pit. This brings me back, hope the judging went well.

A fragipan was a rare sight ilaround me, so I love to see it.

Bigboye57 ,

I have always wanted to try a sheep foot profile, so I picked on up. Thanks for the nice review as always.

Bigboye57 ,

I love these guys. Feel like umbrella's for small creatures.

Bigboye57 ,

Nice. Have you ever made pasta with these? I saw a recipe of using the ink and it looked interesting.

Bigboye57 ,

What is your recipe?

Bigboye57 OP ,

They grow at the base of oak trees and are very unique in appearance. Feel free to share some photos over and I can confirm for you.

Bigboye57 ,

That is a big boy!

Bigboye57 ,

Thanks for getting some more to share. I am throwing my hat in with the Armillaria from whoever said that yesterday(veil and white spores), I'll do some digging tonight though as I am not familiar with this part of the world.

Bigboye57 ,

I am curious. Anyone know what this guy is?

Bigboye57 ,

This is making me get very close to finally buying a Spyderco. I have enjoyed the cheap waters of fake 110 Buck knife knock offs from pawn shops too long. I can make my Microtech fantastic Uncle proud for once.

Thank you as always, I love reading these.

Bigboye57 ,

Maybe an older resinous polypore but I am not the best with shelf fungus. Hope that helps.

Bigboye57 OP ,

Thankfully he is just being a ding dong standing on uneven ground, keeping watch for squirrels. Your dad is right about ubiquitous as I just walked the woods again and they popped up everywhere.

Bigboye57 OP ,

Oh yea, I had a nice meal.

Bigboye57 ,

That is a ghost pipe. He is not a mushroom but a parasitic plant. Just recently people started losing it over ghost pipe tincture, I have been in the woods all my life and had not heard people doing anything with them.

Bigboye57 ,

The veiled bolete is very cool. Great picture.

You may already know but old man of the woods bruises a deep red, always cool to see or show kids.

Weird Knife Wednesday: NSOUR Stainless Steel

You know, sometimes I almost miss the pre-Internet days. Or at least the early Internet era. Back then, the junk purveyors were all on late night television instead. In those pre-dawn hours, if you wanted to get your hands on the truly godawful and macabre you had to call the 1-800 number now, where operators were standing by, ...

Bigboye57 ,

I was just talking to my uncle about those spectacular QVC knife shows. I have fond memories of watching them in a hotel room as a youngin while traveling on vacation with my brother. Thanks for keeping up the good fight and sharing these for all of us to see.

Bigboye57 ,

We are bathroom brothers of 80's fake tile board. Just bought this house and this is on the list to get remodeled. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b537a8bc-951e-41de-9679-da82f431b0f8.jpeg

Bigboye57 ,

Sign me up. I am ready to leave the office and kick it on the beach fishing.

Bigboye57 ,

Home boy. This is good stuff. I see it has been awhile but I hope your keeping it going on these
