According to my profile, I've participated in 14 Global Game Jams, and 7 of those have produced playable NES games. :D Someone told me that must be a record... and I suppose it's probably true!
The rest included a game made in Obj-C/GL, one in Cocos2D, one with raw JS, one in Pico 8, and 3 in Unity.
STATEMENT OF GENERAL COMMAND OF SDF /ENGLISH/KURMANJI):
For our Resisting People
Since January 6, our regions and our people have been subjected to barbaric and inhumane attacks. In the face of these assaults, our fighters are fighting with great courage and sacrifice and continue their struggle with honor.
Today, the Turkish state and its ISIS-minded gangs are increasing their attacks on our people, hoping to break our will and defeat our resistance.
We say with great will and determination that just as our friends in 2014 staged a historic resistance in Kobanê and turned it into a graveyard for ISIS, which was supported by Turkey, today we declare with the same determination that we will turn our cities from Derik to Hasakah and Kobanê into a graveyard for the new ISIS-minded people, who are being led by the Turkish state.
On this basis, we call on all our youth, our men and women in Rojava, North, South and East Kurdistan, as well as in Europe, to unite together and remove the borders of the invaders and join the resistance.
Today is a day of honor.
Today is a day of historical responsibility.
And today we show once again that the will of the people is stronger than any kind of attack and occupation.
Ji bo gelê me ê Berxwedêr
ji 06 Çileyê ve, herêmên me û gelê me rasterast rastî êrîşên hov û barbaran ne tê. li hember van êrîşan de, şervanên me bi cesaret û fedakariyeke mezin şer dikin û bi awayekî bi rûmet şerê xwe dewam dikin.
Îro, dewleta Tirk û çeteyên wê yên bi zihniyeta DAIŞê, êrîşên xwe li ser gelê me zêde dikin, bi xeyala ku dikarin îradeya me bişkînin û berxwedana me têk bibin.
Em bi biryar û îradeyeke mezin dibêjin ku çawa hevalên me di sala 2014’an de li Kobanê berxwedana dîrokî kirin û Kobanê kirin goristan ji DAIŞê ya ku ji aliyê Tirkiyê ve hate piştgirîkirin re, îro jî bi heman îradeyê diyar dikin ku em ê bajarên xwe ji Dêrikê heta Hesekê û Kobanê biguherînin goristanek ji bo xwediyên zihniyeta DAIŞê yên nû, yên ku ji aliyê dewleta Tirk ve tên bi rêve birin.
Li ser vî esasî, em bang dikin li hemû ciwanên me, keç û xortên me ên Rojava, Bakur, Başûr û Rojhilatê Kurdistanê, û her weha li Ewropayê, ku bi hev re bibin yek û sînorên dagirkeran rakin û werin tevlî berxwedanê bibin.
Îro roja rûmetê ye
Îro roja berpirsyariya dîrokî ye
Û îro em careke din nîşan didin ku îradeya gelan ji her cure êrîş û dagirkeriyê bihêztir e.
Turkish backed islamist gangs declared war on the self-administrated Kurdish neighbourhoods of Aleppo. Once again the revolution of Rojava is under attack. Instead of surrender, the people's council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya decided to stay and choose the path of total resistance. People from all parts of Rojava are right now on their way to Aleppo to join the resistance. We want to inform about the current situation and discuss how we can get active. We are one in our struggle for women's liberation and a democratic society!
Share the invitation with all your friends and comrades and join the call!📆

If you asked me a month ago if I had ever played the original #Zelda for #NES . I would have said I played it but never beat it.
I am quite proud of myself. Having now played through it several times, I have done about 8 completions of the game in the last couple of weeks.
In the picture is the list of save files on the GameCube collector's edition.
Lonk was my Swordless run file.
Lenk was a run I did that capped at 8 hearts, blue ring, and white sword.
And Lank was a full deathless/Warpless run
All three files cleared both Quests
A screenshot from Zelda Collector's Edition for GameCube. It shows the file select for Zelda 1. There are three files, all of them show they will start in Quest 2, as the Link icon for the file is holding a sword.
The number underneath the file name shows the total number of deaths on that file.
So I'm guessing it's probably the same as the British version?
The interesting thing is the NES got squashed in the Australian market by the C64 and the Sega Master System:
"Many online articles are unattributed, or reflexively attributed to each other, but Joshua Rogers — a historian and student researching the launch for a book about the Japanese gaming giant's arrival in Australia — says the information exists primarily offline, in printed books, old newspapers and the minds of some of Australia's earliest game developers.
"Aside from the date of the system's launch — most people just say 1987 but Rogers, 20, says interviews and books have left him confident it was some time in July — the main thing missing from most accounts is that Australians initially "weren't really interested in the NES".
...
"'It was a release that had been looming for months', Rogers says.
"'Basically Mattel, who also distributed in the UK, couldn't release it because nobody wanted it. Same thing happened in Australia. They tried releasing it in early 1987, but no retailers wanted it'.
"Of course today Nintendo is a household name in Australia, with the company's new machines often selling out (including last year's miniature replica of the NES), but in 1987 the local market was enjoying the games provided on microcomputers like the Commodore 64.
"Nintendo's real big splash was in the US, where microcomputers never took off and where Atari had previously led the games console industry into a massive crash.
"'One of the things people always get wrong is that Nintendo 'saved' the games console, or games in general, but it's really only in the US that they did' Rogers says.
...
"In Australia and the UK, where the NES was in the US style but modified to run on our TVs, the delayed release put Nintendo in direct competition with Sega, whose Master System console was also out in 1987 and which was more effective at pulling Aussies away from their microcomputers."
...
"'If you go through archives of newspapers it always talks about Ozisoft Sega making huge profits, and Nintendo falling behind and looking to up their advertising campaigns', Rogers says, noting that Mattel's NES advertising strategy in Australia was profoundly weird.
"'Any place that wasn't Japan or the US ... they just could not get it right'."

3D print design of a Mario-themed grave, featuring a cross made of characteristic green Mario game pipes, and a base made of 8-bit Mario game stone tiles.
Voxel artwork, featuring a game-like cliff, surrounded by retro-style game characters, including Mario. On top of the cliff is an immersed retro-game player staring at his TV with a console underneath it.
I was cleaning up today and sent my NES crashing to the floor. I know they're sturdy and all, but it's 40 years old, and I was worried. I quickly set up the TV in the office and played through "The Great Gatsby" (it only takes 10 minutes, sadly) to make sure everything was still working properly.
Usually the Nintendo is set up outside; this may be the first time the cat has ever seen it running. He was perplexed.
- on the left, a CRT television displaying Stage 3-1 of "The Great Gatsby" for the Nintendo Entertainment System; the television is placed in the middle of a couch, in a room with a beige carpeted floor
- on the right, a black-and-tan banded shorthair housecat staring with full attention at the television screen; its ears are sticking straight up, and its posture shows a mixture of curiosity and trepidation at something new
