North #Korea: School kids were brought to executions of teenagers ‘executed for watching Squid Game’ as regime continues its war on TV #kdrama and #kpop music
#typhoonfamily ep 15 is too long to finish over breakfast but it's fairly obvious now where the Promissory Note is hidden? ( 37 minutes in and all is not lost?)
I was wrong about where the note was. But at least they found it ( did we doubt they wouldn't?) I finally succumbed to all the silliness and it all ended well, I think? It is yet another drama where I feel I should watch what happened in ep 1 again - which always passes fast in a confusion of Who's Who.
My sister and I decided to give up on Last Summer in the middle of episode 3. It was dragging SO much, there was no clear conflict (probably because they want to keep it a mystery but it doesn't work) and for some reason Lee Jae-wook has forgotten how to act. He's usually so good but he either is supposed to be a weird asshole with fake emotions or he got really bad direction. Anyway, we will use our time to watch something we actually do enjoy. #kdrama
It is on Tubi amd the Roku Channel for free (with ads)!
YAY YAY YAY
This was one of my first kdramas that I loved and Spouse liked it a lot, too! I was so sad when it was no longer on Netflix or Viki.
I especially like the dichotomy of comparing modern western medicine to traditional Eastern medicine along with commentary on women's rights. Plus time travel!
#DecRecs Day 1 - Let's start easy with some QTBIPOC books I enjoyed this year:
All This Could Be Different by Sarah Thankam Mathews - realistic fiction about a young Indian lesbian starting a suspicious consulting job and just trying to get over her shitty self while navigating family and friendship
Gods of Want by K-Ming Chang - excellent series of Taiwanese diasporic short stories full of intergenerational angst and ghosts that haunt us, be it from the margins or right up in our faces
Roar of the Lambs by Jamison Shea - yet another excellent YA novel starring a duo intertwined by events set forth in their families decades before, a Black seer who just wants to get to get out of this town and a mixed nonbinary teen who always stands up for what is right - both of whom only ever face doubt and distrust by others
Sister Snake by Amanda Lee Koe - an homage to chinese folklore brought into the modern lore, two sisters, both of whom can take forms of both human or snake, fall back into one another's lives. one raging in their chaos, another just trying to fit in.
The Expanse - Adaptation of a book series, a ragtag team of folx find themselves heroes all look up to in the war between earth, mars, and the asteroid belt.
Fellow Travelers - Heads up, this one is very explicit. A man well positioned in politics must wrestle between protecting the one he loves and his own ability to survive, during the middle of the McCarthy era red scare and HIV/AIDS crisis.
Homebound 3.0 - What will these two Asian New Zealand do to satisfy honoring their family regarding their fake relationship?
The Good Bad Mother - A man has an accident that causes him to regress into a mental age of a 5 year old, leaving his estranged mother to contend with raising her child again while in a body of an adult.
The Cry - A child goes missing, but it's unclear what the circumstances are leading to it ... and why the parents seem to be covering it up despite reporting it
Who keeps messing with MDL show titles? History of Losers was called that but now says Cringy Romance (didn't recognize title of show I dropped) and the title in the link says History of Nerds. #Kdramahttps://mydramalist.com/58111-history-of-nerds
It's a trending today film, so I started watching #Mantis out of curiosity. Because it's not something I'd normally pick. Especially if it was Hollywood. But I'm enjoying the concept, because there's a very Korean side to it all. I am watching it in small sections though ( 3) and will watch the last half hour when I'm less tired.
Started watching #WhenLifeGivesYouTangerines#kdrama Finished episode 3 and of course I'm swooning. Held onto Netflix reluctantly so I could watch this--my cousin recommended it--and it's worth it for IU and Park Bo Gum's chemistry. Or maybe IU just has chemistry with everyone...?
This was cute and light, not a lot of nutritional value, but a fun ride.
I didn't hate any of the leads, but I do think Hoo Joon and Jae Joon had more chemistry together than Hoo Joon and Geun Young did. Their interactions were far more interesting IMHO.
Cat buggered off so I can get up and stare at console messages more closely. Looks like what I read as a 500 error from a distamve is actually a CORS error, which seems to be something API related and Viki side.
I know Viki did some maintenance recently, so I suspect I have just been hit with something related to that. Trying a different browser doesn't work. I am technically using an OS/browser combo they don't support (Ubuntu/Vivaldi), so maybe I am caught in some unholy updated service hell?
Any other #kdrama techies got any hints/tips? Dongle has been suggested for casting from phone, but not sure that will work with my dumb TV/Ubuntu box setup.
Wow, what a way to set the story off. A dark and stormy night in the mountains with strange, not-quite-right taxi passengers, magic, and afterlife visitors.
I knew nothing about this story going in to it, but I am already intrigued.
And this generational caretaker role reminds me of the #kdrama#Goblin. But too poor to wear gaudy chaebol outfits!
There was an interesting discussion in the SFWA discord and a tangential topic was men and reading.
So I’m curious. Men, of any age. Are you a reader?
I broke it down into
Avid - More than 20 books a year
Sometimes - Less than 20 a year
Don’t read - Self explanatory I hope.
Please share far and wide. 100% not scientific and feel free to reply with genres and any other color commentary you like in the replies.

I did read a lot of Dutch , later more English. Basics like Agatha Christie A. C. Doyle. A lot of Guinevere & King Arthur. End '90's Darkness in Dutch and Canadian families. Lucy Maud Montgomery came on our path. "Anne "s Optimism hard needed ! 10 nice years on LMM - dedicated forums with Global reach. Someone in the forums suggested #kdrama in 2009. Still there , not a lot of reading.
But LMM and Jane Austen are still Favourites.
I should read again...
@FediTips I love the fine-grained controls the Mastodon quote function is promising. A big plus for many, especially my #kDrama, #cDrama, #jDrama peeps 🙏
Hello! Decided to give this app a try and see what the community is like.
I am an American (U.S.) who lives in Germany and loves to travel.
I love to read - favorite author is Fredrik Backman. I also love art, cooking, and KDramas (Currently watching Taxi Driver 2). I also recently rediscovered my passion for gaming and particularly love indie games. Chants of Sennaar is my favorite game so far.
I speak English, French and German.
OK, I think I will probably manage to meet all my #Storygraph#Reading goals before December 31.
The bookstodon group 20 book challenge pushed me way ahead, now I can switch from reading on my Kobo Sage to reading subtitles on my TV 😂 #CDrama#KDrama#JDrama - first up: #KDramas Serendipity's Embrace and My Sweet Mobster and #CDrama My Sassy Wife. 🤞 🤞 🤞🏽
