Been wanting to show more works in progress vs. just finished work! I lost momentum on this light, face and color study of a woman in a blue dress, and may pick it up again in the future... or not! It was fun to paint anyway!
Screenshot of Procreate of a work in progress color and face study of a woman in profile wearing a ice blue dress with a blue flower in her hair. To the right is the painting's digital layers.
10 minute digital painting study of an office building in monochromatic purple. There are trees on the top left and the top of a car at the bottom left.
Art study challenge where I took a crazy color and tried to paint a portrait over it and normalize the colors. Turned into a member in the Cullen family, haha!
Painting of a young man with blue skin. Looking out at the viewer. Behind him is an orange circle. The artist's signature and @joyousjoyfuljoyness watermark are at the bottom.
#ArtAdventCalendar Day 3
This one from early in 2024 is a rare example of when I painted something entirely from imagination and it sort of worked out.
Doesn't often happen, because references ftw, normally.

A digital painting of a woodland canopy seen from below, in warm browns and greens. Indistinct, fuzzy looking trunks in the background, behind a more detailed central, focal tree that stretches up into chaotic, textured, scattered brush strokes giving an impression of foliage. Dappled light falls on the trunk, but overall the everything is quite muted, like the gloom inside a forest.
Painting of a red-headed woman with light blue eyes wearing a blue headscarf, looking out at the viewer. The artist's signature and @joyousjoyfuljoyness watermark are at the bottom right.
I painted the left painting with a challenge to make a bright color underpainting work. I submitted it for review to my art idol, Marco Bucci, and his corrected version is on the right. He helped adjust the anatomy and said the color was spot on! WOOO!
Two paintings of a young man side by side with the artist JoyousJoyfulJoyness's original version on the left, and a corrected version by Marco Bucci on the right. In both, the skin of the man is a pale blue, and the hair is purple and red. The man is wearing a collared shirt and vest, and the background is an orange circle on blue. The image on the right has more anatomy corrections, while the one on the left is more stylized.
One of my very first color digital paintings and a face, color and light study! I was obsessed with retro Chinese fashion, especially Chinese qipao dresses. This was painted in Adobe Fresco!
Painting of a retro Chinese woman with old fashioned waves in her purple hair. The woman is wearing a dark red Chinese qipao dress. The style is very rough brushstrokes and the background is an abstract sun and blue shadows. The artist's @joyousjoyfuljoyness watermark is on the bottom left.
Sketchbook page with drawings of two women with colored pencil. The top is an African American woman with her hair pulled up and she is looking to our left. The bottom drawing is of a woman looking to our right. Her hair is pulled back snd the drawing shows her shoulders and collarbone. The date 5/6/2023 is on the bottom woman's left shoulder. The date 5/1/2023 is written below the hair of the woman at the top.
One of my face studies when I was learning to paint in Procreate in 2023, this time with pastel brushes. I was studying the lighting and getting familiar with color and texture.
Timelapse of my painting of a man to study color by starting with a crazy color and trying to harmonize it! He kinda looks like a Cullen from Twilight!
I'm really new to digital art, and drawing in general, but here's a little #AlphonseElric I drew! I had a lot of fun following along with
@JohnMcdevitt's Anime faces A-Z, and intended to try my own hand at it, but considering how long it took me to do this one and then actually remember to post it, I'm not sure how far I'll get xP
Headshot illustration of Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Done in a sort of chibi flat style intended to make his normally imposing armoured appearance much more cutesy.
Dang. Straight up impressed with myself with this one. Not perfect by any means, but I think it looks great. I used the Dry ink brush for the line art, and while it was great to work with, once coloured it left a strange texture as though you were looking at the image in the wrong resolution. Oh well, I think adding the paper texture mitigated most of that, plus it looks cool.
Anime Faces A to Z: 'J' is for Jojo, or more specifically, a young Joseph Joestar.
Whoo boy, I knew Jojo was gonna be tricky, but man, this one was a real challenge. I think it turned out okaaaay, but not my favourite piece in the series.
Maybe a bit of a stretch for the concept of this series, but chat insisted and honestly it was a nice little change. I think it turned out great! One of my favourite pieces so far!
Jokes aside, I feel like my male characters haven't been my best entries, so I really didn't want to do L after doing Jojo and Isshiki back to back :P So chat voted on Leafa instead. And I'm quite happy with the result! ^^
