Imagine a protocol like #LSP, but for adding real-time collaboration to existing text editors. It would allow #Neovim to edit a #Hedgedoc, or peer-to-peer pair programming between #VSCode and #Emacs!
We've come up with our own little protocol like that (for Teamtype), but we'd like to open up the discussion:
That's why we're inviting everyone interested to an initial online gathering on Feb 26, 19:00 UTC, to gauge interest for working on a protocol like this together!
A diagram that connects text editors on the left to collaborative applications on the right, using a common, shared protocol, labelled the "Collaborative Editing Protocol".
This might be worth a PSA - if you use #VSCode via Snap, every file you delete inside VSCode is not actually getting deleted. It goes to a "Trash" folder at ~/snap/code/current/.local/share/Trash and never (ever) gets deleted. Last year I found I had 44 GB in undeleted files, in the following GitHub issue this is happening to a lot of people.

No to polecam. Przy najmniej jak na ten moment. LaTeX Workshop jest dostępny z poziomu "repozytorium" dodatków.
The feeling when someone with VS Code not configured for Python writes a statement into your code and pushes back the file reformatted according to JS conventions... 😭
Just talked with #DisabilityServices at Colorado Christian University. They’re encouraging me to use #MicrosoftWord instead of #LaTeX for schoolwork, since Word has built-in dictation that could help when my #RheumatoidArthritis flares up and typing gets hard.
To other #Blind folks: how do you remember all of Word’s keyboard shortcuts? I swear I spend more time navigating the ribbon than actually writing. I stick with LaTeX because I can remember commands better than shortcuts.
They said Word’s dictation is accessible, so I’m giving it a shot. But I’m also wondering: what reference managers do you use? I’ve been using #Zotero since it works with #VSCode and LaTeX, but I don’t know how well it integrates with Word — and definitely not with #PowerPoint. My school has me doing a lot of #APA-style presentations lately.
Would love tips from anyone juggling accessibility, citations, and academic workflows.
“GlassWorm isn't just another supply chain attack. It's using stealth techniques we've never seen before - invisible Unicode characters that make malicious code literally disappear from code editors. Combine that with blockchain-based C2 infra that can't be taken down, Google Calendar as a backup command server, and a full remote access trojan that turns every infected dev into a criminal proxy node.”
So... given that Win10 support is EOL, and I kinda want to avoid Win11... What's the take on Linux these days? I mostly use computer for C++ development: Visual Studio, Fork, Superluminal. What's the least amount of hassle? GPU is nvidia.
@aras Ubuntu is not a bad choice as a developer (It's what I've been using as .NET developer for over a decade now).
You'll have to give up Visual Studio and trade it in for #vscode. Or if you want a more Windows looking desktop, go with #mint or #kubuntu
The Galaxy Tool Development Workshop kicked off a new series of events to strengthen our tool ecosystem!
This inaugural session, held for the Galaxy EU team, focused on best practices, collaboration, and reproducible development.
Schedule update: I won’t be streaming at my usual time today. I’m heading to the VS Code event in Austin, Texas. I’m also getting an iPhone, so I’ll hopefully be able to stream the unboxing. #VSCode#AustinTech#LiveStreaming
