In 1952, the Supreme Court struck down President Harry S. #Truman's seizure of steel mills in Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. v. #Sawyer ruling that the president had overstepped his authority. #scotus #steel #premarket #investing #newsrewind
Chris Bryant (Trade Minister) claims the UK is talking with the US & EU to develop a three-way 'steel alliance' to tackle the glut of Chinese steel that has (re)shaped the global market.
It will be an interesting indicator of how important the UK remains in global trade relations.
The EU suggests the UK will get a 'preferential look' at new EU Steel trade regulations while any US commitments seems more vague.
It seems unlikely this will save the UK's steel sector.
@AtanasE Here's an alt-text description of the image:
This is a close-up photograph of the rear cassette and derailleur of a bicycle. The cassette consists of ten silver sprockets of varying sizes, tightly arranged on a wheel hub. A silver derailleur is attached to the bicycle frame, with various screws and parts visible, and its cage partially obscures the cassette. The derailleur is connected to the frame with a metallic bracket. The text “CENTAUR 10 SPEED” is visible on the derailleur.

Looks like the European Union, in a bid to save its own steel industry, is going to start imposing high tariffs (for imports above a quota related to imports in 2013), leaving the UK steel sector suffering already from higher US tariffs, now soon to be blocked from its primary market (around 80% of UK steel imports go to the EU).
Whether a new 'steel strategy' and//or perhaps the current swing into Military Keynesianism can save the sector seems at best optimistic.

Golden hour can have so much power and make photos look seemingly different to their normal view. Living in Sydney, I have seen the Harbour Bridge so many times, but never like this. There were only minutes when it remained this color, and I just happened to be in the right spot at the right time to capture this amazing red glow from the sunset on our Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of Sydney, New South Wales, and Australia. The bridge is nicknamed "The Coathanger" because of its arch-based design.
