i feel like youā€™re implying performative activism isnā€™t inherently bad and honestly i think i agree. why it has made me mad personally is because my life as a disabled person in the usa has been in immediate danger for years now, but because advocating for disabled rights isnā€™t trendy, there isnā€™t much awareness / action beyond the community itself and when weā€™re already barely staying afloat, thereā€™s not much if any energy left for activism, and even then as a minority we likely canā€™t create big changes on our own. when i was ā€œjustā€ mentally ill it was always ā€œoh no donā€™t kill yourself! people love you!ā€, when i became too physically ill to keep myself alive without help it was silence.

now of course none of this actually has anything to do with you personally because iā€™m referring specifically to disability issues within the united states, iā€™m just explaining why the performative things frustrates me / explaining how i relate

as for what you can actually doā€¦ i hate to be absolutely fucking useless but i genuinely donā€™t know. shit iā€™m not even fully up to date on whatā€™s going on :/ i hate to be ignorant but there is just so much bad happening both in my personal life and the united states and itā€™s like jesus christ can well all just chill. like actually chill. omg (and by ā€œweā€ i mean the us government)

i donā€™t think thereā€™s anything wrong with being vocal about whatā€™s happening though. that matters too. keeping people aware is also important. you canā€™t begin to solve a problem if you donā€™t know what the problem is.

just, when it comes to the seemingly performative people, when there are opportunities for things beyond keeping people informed they kinda just pretend they didnā€™t hear you lol. which is different
