Exterior of an old municipal building with a letters on the side that are falling off. The sign is supposed to read “City of Chicago - Department of Streets & Sanitation”. However, the final “O” of “Chicago” is gone and the “I” is barely hanging on. Even prior to decay, the spacing between the words “Department of Streets & Sanitation” is off.
Digital artwork showing the top part of a British red telephone booth or phone box. The gold crown is visible below the curved roof and over the telephone sign. The very top of the door glass is visible.
Love this little addition to a Strong Winds warning sign I spotted near the Rest And Be Thankful during a quick hillwalking trip to the Arrochar Alps yesterday. However, I failed to find the plaque marking the spot where the fictional Barry from EastEnders was pushed to his death by the equally fictional Janine. Scotland has some weird stuff!
A strong winda warning sign on a mountainous stretch of Scottish road to which someone has added a small figure hanging on to the post supporting the wind sock.
The sign for the Terrace Motel. It is in a mid-century style, with "Terrace" arranged vertically in yellow, sans serif type. The bottom of "Terrace" overlaps a read, irregular polygon that has "Motel" spelled out in yellow letters. The sign is topped by a large, yellow star.
Too many times, the old vintage places/signs get lost to time and decay or gentrification of the neighborhood happens. I knew I had to get a photo of this vintage neon sign back when I was out in St Pete in 2024. These three panels show the original photograph of the rusted & roached vintage neon sign of The Sandman Motel and the process of my restoration 'restoring' it back to near original look from the dilapidated state. Some power lines are cloned out and a sign. And yes, I took one liberty with an edit. Those with eagle eye will note that the lattice wall with brown dead vines of the motel building visible behind the sign was replaced. The decayed vines just look out of place with a 'new' looking sign. I didn't have a picture in my photo folders of a lattice wall with greenery. But I did have a stone wall with ivy. I layered in a wall with ivy leaves from a picture I took several years ago in Chicago. The sign was also blank of any message at the time I took the photo. So, I took the liberty of presenting an Artist’s Interpretation/ Embellishment. I have two versions available – this one with a humorous nod to Florida wildlife and a Worldly Wise one with a dream quote. I shared the progress last year with the Mastodon Art server community and received some feedback for which I am grateful for.
A neon sign for the Beasley Motel, stating that you can get good food there, as well as a room with a telephone and TV, air conditioning and wall-to-wall carpeting.
Photo of the exterior of a corner store. A green on yellow sign on the wall facing the camera reads "BURCH'S LIQUOR INC." in ornamented capitals. Projecting from the corner of the building is another green on yellow sign with a half-circle top that reads "BURCH'S" in sans-serif capitals.
A sign projecting from the corner of the Grand Theater building. It is deep red, with semicircular top and bottom. "GRAND" is displayed vertically in white, italic sans-serif capitals.
