Hey #FediDev gang.. Do you think this is the right way to guide people from personal/organizational websites into the #Fediverse?
Some of this is defined in #FEP3b86. Some of it exists today in #Emissary (and the #oStatus "remote follow") some is being built by
@dansup as #WebIntents, and some is just scribbles on paper.
If there's interest, I'm happy to write up the rest of this as an additional #FEP
FEP drafting: Am I using “side effects” here the same way as other ActivityPub developers? I've seen the term used a bunch in casual conversation, but my personal understanding of it is kinda fuzzy.
The "side effects" of an activity are everything caused by the activity other than it being visible in its actor's outbox and getting posted to its audience's inboxes. For example, a like or reply being represented in the affected object's `likes` or `replies` collection is a side effect, as is likes or replies being shown on a web page corresponding to the object.
there is currently a #Piefed Hackathon going on if anyone is interested in partaking. There are groups working on spanish, german, french and japanese translations, and a bunch of other things.
The Mastodon team is planning to release a universal "share" button.
(It wasn't clear to me if this was just for Mastodon servers — or if it would work with non-Mastodon servers, too. It was mentioned briefly from the audience.)
Day 2 in Brussels (for this trip). I think I have adjusted enough to the time-zone change that I will be (mostly) awake for FOSDEM 2026 — which takes place this weekend.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the first day of FOSDEM 2026. I will be attending the Social Web track.
If #fedi instances, or accounts on instances, come and go frequently in alpha software, would that kind of churn cause problems with other instances on the #Fediverse? What is the #fediquette for #fediDev?
I was looking though a feed on a random Friendica instance and recognized an icon that I designed and instantly realized that Friendica is now using my https://iconography.fediverse.info project as an icon source for many pieces of software that federate to them! #fedidev
Cryptographic public-keys are one way that one can have an identity (on the Fediverse, and elsewhere) while also having privacy — through a pseudonymous identity.
Yes, we have Fediverse IDs such as:
@joeblow@example.com
But a (non-delegated) public-key can function as a PORTABLE form of identity on the Fediverse.
with all the meta about the new social network called W going on I thought it was funny I just discovered a new flavor of #fediverse server at https://z.org. Looks like its author @ got federation working last month and they named the software #Elektrine #fedidev
a screenshot of a new fediverse server software called elektrine with a black background and purple and red buttons
"I will leave twitter/X when another platform gives me a timeline based on my own choice of algorithm, an unconditional edit button and the ability to delete individual replies."
I have added Mastodon-style (FEP-044f) quote post compatibility to my
@DailyRucks bot. You can now quote post the daily voice lines as much as you want! 🥳
This would be noteworthy on its own if there weren't already a bunch of non-Mastodon implementations, but I'm actually late to the party. WordPress, Bonfire, micro.blog, dotmakeup, and ActivityBot all got there before I did.
However, I think my approach is novel for being stateless. Thread incoming.
