Today in Labor History December 20, 1971: Doctors Without Borders was founded by French doctors and journalists in the wake of the Biafra succession. Their first mission was in support of victims of the 1972 Nicaraguan earthquake. In the mid to late 1970s, they provided aid to refugees from the Khmer Rouge. They spent 9 years (1976-1984) in Lebanon during their civil war. They’ve spent decades in Africa helping in the battles against AIDS and Ebola. Their volunteers have been attacked by soldiers, kidnapped and bombed. In 1999 they won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Israel continues to starve Gaza by all means. Despite the ceasefire agreement, which stipulates the sufficient entry of aid and goods into Gaza, Israel links the entry of commercial trucks and humanitarian aid to its supervision in order to control the fate of Gazans, managing the quantity and quality of food and commercial goods in the Strip.
Reports indicate that Israeli forces have so far destroyed 1414 homes in Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps in the West Bank, in a campaign described by observers as systematic and comprehensive destruction of infrastructure.
Sources confirm that Israel’s actions in these camps have no justification and require urgent international intervention to stop the violations.
