So a person set a GoPro at the entrance to a burrowing owl's burrow. There are dozens of comments about what a fantastic photo it is. Having photographed burrowing owls--from an ethical distance--near the Salton Sea ag fields, I know my friend Wendy down there would be horrified, as am I, by what the photographer did. It is wrong to disturb any bird to get-the-shot. 😡 The only reason to approach a burrow is to plant a small flag warning people--& tractors--to steer clear. https://www.flickr.com/photos/wemesq/with/54997651429
Here's a photo I made--shot from an ethical distance--of a burrowing owl south of the Salton Sea last fall. Note that the owl is relaxed and looking around as they do early in the morning. If I were too close, the owl would be hunkering down staring at the camera or would have dived into its burrow.
A color landscape photo of a large white bird with black wing tips gliding toward the camera with outstretched wings. The bird is looking directly at the camera. The sky is clear and blue.
En fyrkantig bild på katten Sonja som hänger upp och ner på sin klösstolpe. Hon har grepp om svansen. I bakgrunden ett fönster med ett vitt element under.
"I wouldn't be happy if I had to live in another place for very long. I would hate to live up in the northwest where all them trees are, you can't hardy see the sky because there's so many trees. I'd miss these here great distances when I get out of this country. I'd be lost if I had to live in another place."

A color landscape photo of a very green lush meadow with a barn on the right. Rolling mountains in the background are densely covered in conifer trees. Filter sunlight reaches the barn and meadow while the mountains are shroud in fog.
Zoomed-in photo of a man wearing rainbow coloured sneakers and rainbow coloured socks with an outline of the Eiffel Tower on them. The man is standing in a grassy field alongside other people and a black-and-white dog.
You are looking straight up from inside a cozy wooden cabin. The ceiling is made of warm, golden-brown wooden planks with visible natural grain and small knots. In the center of the image is a large rectangular skylight window set into the ceiling. The window frame is white with a clean, modern design — it has a slightly raised inner border that creates a subtle framed effect. Through the clear glass of the skylight you see a beautiful bright summer or spring sky: deep blue with many soft, scattered white clouds of different sizes. Some clouds are wispy and feathery, others are fuller and more rounded. The sunlight is strong and even, making the whole sky feel open, light, and uplifting. Below the window, wooden beams and part of the wall are visible. The overall atmosphere of the picture is calm, bright, natural, and peaceful — a view of the sky captured from a warm, wooden interior space.
This black-and-white photograph captures an old, narrow wooden shutter door deeply set into a thick, ancient stone wall. The door consists of tall vertical planks of weathered wood, their grain still visible beneath years of sun, rain, and time, giving the surface a gently uneven texture full of small cracks and soft wear. Across the right side stretches a beautiful hand-forged iron strap hinge shaped like a slender tree branch or climbing vine. The dark iron contrasts sharply with the lighter wood and pale stone. Centered on the door hangs a simple iron ring knocker, its circular ring resting against a small decorative backplate. A small, modern padlock—the only clearly recent object—secures everything, threaded through a hasp and staple near the edge. The surrounding wall is built from irregular blocks of limestone or sandstone, each stone varying in size and shape, held together by thick, weathered mortar lines that have softened and receded over centuries. A plain stone lintel rests above the recessed doorway, its edges smoothed by long use. The whole scene carries a hushed, sculptural stillness. Strong tonal contrasts between the bright rough stone, the darker aged wood, and the deep black of the iron create a composition that feels both intimate and enduring, as though the door has guarded its threshold for hundreds of quiet years.
A pair of Wigeon on a flooded saltmarsh, a few winter stems rise through the water. The male is to the right of frame facing directly to camera showing the pale (almost yellowish) forehead on a rich brown head, the pinkish brown breast and patterned grey back contrast with the more muted, but still delicate, plumage of the female behind. Both birds have the distinctive black tipped, grey bill.
A color landscape photo of a small steep rocky island sitting in absolutely dead still blue water. It is early morning and the sun has just broke over an unseen ridge line to the right and is illuminating the top half of the island. The rocky island is pyramid shaped and cover in green bushes and conifer trees. There is a small abandoned stone structure at the top of the island. Because the water is dead still, the island is reflected, as if in a mirror, on on the water giving the effect that the island might be floating in the sky.
A color landscape photo looking out to a large blue-green high mountain lake framed by bright green trees on the side and bushes in the foreground. The sun illuminates the foreground and a jumble of large boulders in the lake at center frame. Otherwise, the sky is dark with rain clouds and there's a dark line of distant mountains along the opposite shoreline.
En stående bild på månen som är nästan full mellan grenar. Himmelen är blå med rosa-aktiga moln i ett band i nedre delen. Längst ner silhuetten av skog. Det har börjat bli mörkt.
A color landscape photo of a very large clear alpine lake. The view is framed by a conifer tree on the left and large gray boulders on the right. Large boulders extend out into the shallow water by the shoreline. Dark mountains are seen in the distance and dark rain clouds are overhead. The shallow water in the foreground is an emerald green. The deeper water in the distance is a dark blue.
A color landscape photo of an adult goose lying on a lawn. The goose faces toward the upper right with it's back toward the camera. Its wings are spread and arched up like an umbrella. Looking carefully you can see a number of yellow and gray chick bodies under the wings. The chick furthest back has its head above the mother's back and is looking toward the camera, as is the adult goose.
A color landscape photo of a shoreline of a large alpine lake. The water in the foreground is green tinted and crystal clear and there are many gray rounded boulders from the center into the lower right portion of the photo. A small conifer tree grows from one of the boulder created islands at center-right. Flat blue water is seen extending out from center-left to upper left. In the distant background in the upper left are snow-capped mountains. steep slopes angle up from the sinuous lake shore on the right. The sky is clear blue.
