Pinot noir and Swiss cheese, or a nice smoked Gouda or anything with goat cheese. Actually I think I like most cheeses, but I’m much more picky about wines. I mostly drink drier reds, Pinot being my favorite now but used to only drink cabernets and malbecs

I go one of 2 ways depending on how I’m feeling with an egg n cheese sammy:

Shoot, probably Dell? This was a few years ago, but it looked just like the Dell ones that are currently on the market.
Also, the house still has a vague burnt plastic and lithium smell, especially noticeable when I’ve been away for a day or so. I think our couch absorbed all that smoke smell :(
Ice cubes do have some smell, now that you mention it. Humans have an amazing ability to smell moisture, which we evolved for being able to find water sources. So your experience with AC could relate to how AC affects the humidity in the air perhaps.
And in context of this thread, smell is one of the largest factors for our experience of flavor. Without a sense of smell, most foods would taste relatively bland.
I’m curious what foods taste least bad to you? Also, did the surgery involve your tongue in some way?

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

My Chromebook self-destructed a couple years ago and nearly burned our house down. That thing also was the shortest lived computer I’ve ever owned.

I lost a very close friend to fentanyl in 2025. They even had narcan at home when it happened, but by the time their partner found them it was just moments too late.
I’m still not over it and probably never will be, the anger and grief is just so strong. Their death was so preventable. But they decided to take the risk and buy some shit from the dark web and not test it first, and they decided to hide it from their partner and friends.
I wish we lived in a world where drugs were decriminalized and destigmatized, maybe my friend would have felt more comfortable giving their partner a heads up before trying some sketchy dark web product. Unfortunately, there is just nothing that truly helps severe chronic pain, and our medical system sucks.
Anyways y’all, please be safe out there if you’re inclined to try anything off the street. Get ahold of some test kits and narcan, and please have someone you trust supervise. Fent has been put into so many things – including coke, Adderall, Xanax – nothing is “safe” anymore (not saying drugs were safe before, but the risks are so much higher than they used to be ~15 years ago)
I think for cuts there’s general rules for location, depth, and length to qualify as an emergency. Deep punctures/stab wounds should always be treated as emergencies, do not remove the object, but stabilize it so it doesn’t cause more damage. An amount of blood equivalent to a can of soda is life threatening.
I’ve stayed current on first aid certifications for about a decade and grew up with a parent in the medical field. I still suck at knowing when something requires an er visit, quite possibly because family, friends, and neighbors would come over and get stitches on our kitchen counter rather than go to the hospital. The best I can say is, if you are questioning whether something requires a hospital visit, then it probably does. Better to be safe than sorry.

I’m not an expert on this, but I’ve worked with fresh and saltwater aquaria for years and here’s what I can say: food grade plastics should be fine to use, since they are not supposed to break down in water. I 3D print a lot, and PLA is not safe for aquaria because it is made of plant material and biodegrades in water over time, while PETG is generally safe for aquaria – but you have to be careful of what dyes/colors are used, same with ABS and nylon so long as they say ‘food grade’. Fish are pretty tolerant afaik, while invertebrates (especially crustaceans and cnidarians) are typically more sensitive to contaminants. That said, polypropylene (PP), and high density or cross linked polyethylene (HDPE or XLPE) are considered safe so long as they are virgin plastics (not recycled material). The surface and porosity makes a big difference in how long the plastics will last before biofouling – basically, microbes will form a biofilm and eventually other things will start growing on the surface, but periodic cleaning should keep this from building up. Also, keep in mind that each type of plastic has different tolerances to temperature, pH, etc., and the age of the plastic matters.
As an aside, there are micro/nano plastics everywhere. It’s unavoidable at this point. One of the biggest concerns for aquaria is other types of contaminants – other chemicals that are added to plastics (e.g., BPA) and heavy metals used in pumps, heaters, etc. Electronics and their plastic housings eventually fail, surprisingly often and quicker than expected at times, and the stuff that leaches out can cause a lot of harm to the animals, not to mention if a heater cooks the tank or just stops maintaining temp and the animals get too cold.

Realistically, if old equipment still worked then people wouldn’t necessarily just get rid of it as soon as something new came out. I’m not that old and the only 2 things I haven’t used were rotary phone and mix tape (assuming CD mix ‘tapes’ and personally recorded stuff on tapes also don’t count)

Ooohhh I totally forgot about renting movies from the grocery store!
Maybe we can add palm pilots and tvs where the channel changer was a knob you had to adjust

I got 18 and I’m not even 35 yet lol

Gotcha! I’m fairly new to Linux so I didn’t even realize gimp works on Linux but that makes sense :)

Aww this is amazing! Did you end up keeping the puppy?

Oh god yes printers in general are awful and scammy, so I totally understand your hesitation! You shouldn’t need any special software unless you plan to shoot in raw format, but you can change that setting in the camera and it probably defaults to jpeg anyways – raw is great if you want absolutely lossless data since there’s always some compression in jpeg, but you’ll have to convert raw to some other format eventually anyways (jpeg, png, or my personal favorite is tiff when working with layers). The built in windows photo viewer won’t display raw files but the equivalent in Mac does iirc. The only other time I’ve used special software is when shooting tethered to a computer – canon has a specific program so you can live view what the camera is seeing, which is great for composing nice shots since the computer screen is much larger than the one on the camera, and adobe Lightroom also does this, fyi – that’s typically done for product/portrait studio photography anyways.
I believe the canon rebel t6 was the first that you could connect the camera via internet/Bluetooth to transfer files remotely, but that’s optional and I’ve never used it nor do I want to. I just use the SD card to transfer my files manually, and I have an old copy of Photoshop cs6 (before the subscription-based cc) that I use for editing if/when I feel like it. Gimp is probably better but I learned Photoshop and just couldn’t get myself to learn an entirely different program.

When I switched to digital photography, someone recommended I start with the canon rebel, and I’m still using that same camera 12 years later. Honestly it’s a good camera that’s not too expensive and light weight, and there’s probably lots of refurbished ones for super cheap online. I can’t speak as much to Nikon since I stuck with canon, but really any basic dslr from either of those companies would be good, just avoid full frame sensors if you want it to be light weight and reasonably priced lol. If anything, invest more in getting decent lenses – just ensure the lens is compatible with the camera you choose. For nature photography, a good telephoto lens for anything far away and a macro lens for small close ups, and the standard zoom lens that comes with just about every dslr kit to get everything in between.
Someone else may have better recommendations because I haven’t kept up with all the new fancy features that have come out since, but imo the ability to use a variety of lenses for different purposes is what sets a dslr camera apart from what phone cameras are capable of doing these days.

Multiple frittatas or egg-based breakfast casseroles would work well. You could make each one unique so people can pick and choose, like Mexican (chorizo, jalapenos, queso fresco/cotija), southwestern style (chicken/turkey, peppers, Monterey Jack cheese), Italian (various herbs and mozzarella/parmesan/Romano), American (ham/bacon/sausage with cheddar), etc. Any of those would be awesome with diced onions, peppers, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, and just about any kind of cheese. I like putting crispy hash browns on the bottom before pouring the egg mixture over and sprinkling extra cheese on top before cooking. Serve with sour cream or creme fraiche and a bottle of hot sauce for those who like it spicy.
Or you could try the U.S. southern style breakfast with biscuits and gravy (country style, with or without sausage), cheese n grits, hash browns, bacon and sausage, and scrambled eggs. Pancakes/waffles might be tricky with so many people, but I imagine a variety of bagels and cream cheeses and other toppings would be easy to pull off.
Not a doctor, but my understanding is that excessive electrolytes are hard on your kidneys. Most people do not need an electrolyte drink everyday, unless they are athletes/regularly working up a sweat or missing salts in their diet
