Still waiting for Bluetooth LE audio and the LC3 codec from back BT 5.2 to see a widespread use. Maybe in the next decade or so.
Another video to communicate what could be explained in a paragraph.
I'd like to discover alternative sources if you know any. Most written literature I come across in searches are either technical specifications biased from the Bluetooth consortium, or watered down blog spam of the same consortium's news releases. Very little in terms of critical analysis or observations of user adoption and real trends in the original equipment manufacturers.
For example, all throughout the news releases of 5.X, no one would discuss if any improvements to bidirectional audio sinks for microphoned headsets were implemented or planned. It's like the consortium is content keeping us all on phone calls with HFP from the 1990s at bitrates of 64kbps, leaving Discord audio sessions sounding like on-hold music at the DMV.
They won't because it's nearly 2026 and they STILL DON'T HAVE STEREO AUDIO + MIC CHANNEL as a STANDARD FEATURE
It's so frustrating that mono audio+mic has been the norm for so long. The awfully small bit rate for both sink and source channels is just the cherry on top. I have to break out a USB-C DAC with a TRRS connector for discord calls on my tablet, as every manufacturer has done away with internal headphone jacks, just maintain the same audio quality I would have on speakerphone mode.
Android is also pretty frustrating and that you can't bifurcate your audio syncs and sources. For example on any modern Linux distribution, you can at least direct apps to use your internal laptop microphone by default, and your headphones for full bit rate stereo audio only - to work around and avoid Bluetooth's ancient HFP protocol. Why Android developers can't replicate this basic audio muxing is beyond me, but resorting to a device's internal microphone comes with its own setbacks.
Perhaps that muxing on Android is only possible for Bluetooth headphones without a microphone, but I can't find any earphone devices that are not also headsets anymore. Just doesn't seem to be a thing any longer.
Not sure who's exactly at fault for this but the practical implementation of LE Audio (or lackthereof) made me pretty disillusioned with new BT features. That standard is almost 5 years old (released with BT 5.2 in 2020) and basically on most combinations of (LE Audio enabled!) hardware it simply doesn't work. Some OEMs put out compatibility lists that ridiculously show 95% of (LE Audio enabled!!!) hardware incompatible, including most OF THEIR OWN FUCKING DEVICES.
Compatibility list for Creative BT-W6:

(screenshot is bodged in the middle idk how to fix that sorry)
So now BT 6 comes with LC3+ support which may or may not be the greatest mobile codec ever, but even LC3, which is the standard, free codec for LE Audio is far from being usable, then I don't know how a licensed LC3+ will ever be adopted.
They won't, we'll just pay more
Bluetooth SIX? How many more times til they get it right?
But innovation means number must go up. In this case more range and more low energy throughput
I'd say both of those things are pretty important and pretty cool
They'll never get it right. Bluetooth is fundamentally bandwidth limited, new protocols can be a little more efficient, but that doesn't change the fact that there's just not enough data flowing for it to sound good.
I just want an option to not automatically connect to a known device.
I rarely have had good experiences with Bluetooth.
I do not even know which version of Bluetooth I have, but the version numbers are confusing enough that I don’t know which version has which features.
Maybe that’s my fault, but when I see tech advertising the Bluetooth version and features, i just hope my device supports those features.
Anyway, I’m done with my rant.
I used to too, but that was in like 2009. Last 5 years or so it has been perfect for me
My earbuds have cables, so they can't get any better.
Same, I have both and you know damn well which ones stay in their case.
Bluetooth works great when it decides to actually work. Such a cumbersome technology
Are you still using BT 4 stuff? Since 5 became commonplace I haven't had a single issue.
My only gripe is that my phone will automatically connect to known devices and there's no way to stop that other than forgetting the device.
Hell If I know. I have a lot of older Bluetooth devices that I love and it seems like I'm always having connection issues. Some manufacturers are better than others.
am i the only person whos ever liked bluetooth 🙃
