Celem artykułu jest wykazanie związku pomiędzy ponowoczesnością i totalitaryzmami oraz wychowaniem człowieka. Przyjętym założeniem jest istnienie zróżnicowanej ontycznie rzeczywistości, której integralną częścią jest życie człowieka, pomiędzy różnymi porządkami istnienia: immanentnym i transcendentnym, w obliczu którego człowiek staje się tym, kim może i być powinien. Na podstawie analizy rozważań francuskiej myślicielki Chantal Delsol można sądzić, że wobec przesłoniętej transcendencji – zarówno w minionych totalitaryzmach, jak i współcześnie – człowiek wskutek absolutyzacji inherentnych kryteriów prawomocności tego, co immanentne, zostaje zredukowany do swoich uwarunkowań (...) biopsychospołecznych. W konsekwencji świat staje się polem do eksperymentów społecznych, dokonywanych za pomocą terroru, bądź bardziej subtelnych środków inżynierii społecznej. Ustanowienie w zrodzonym z Boga Ojca Synu-Logosie idealnych wzorów jest pierwotnym aktem stwórczym Boga, ujętego przez Jana Szkota Eriugenę jako Niestworzona Natura Stwarzająca, która powołuje do istnienia Stworzoną Naturę Stwarzającą. Bóg dokonał całości stworzenia jednym aktem. Stworzenie zaistniało jako proste i doskonałe według woli Boga. Eriugena uważa, że stworzenie w Logosie przyczyn prymordialnych zostało w Księdze Rodzaju opisane w formie procesu. Ten alegoryczny zapis stanowi źródło informacji o stworzonej rzeczywistości. Dla Eriugeny całe Pismo Święte jest pełnoprawnym źródłem informacji, ponieważ autorem (...) Pisma jest zawsze prawdomówny Bóg. Stwórca pragnie, aby człowiek, który dokonał błędnego wyboru i utracił doskonałość, mógł powrócić do tego stanu, więc otwiera przed człowiekiem Księgę Natury, którą jest stworzony wszechświat oraz Księgę Pisma, którą jest Pismo Święte. Biblia, zawierająca symbole, nauki i opisy, została dana również współczesnej ludzkości, aby rozumna natura człowieka mogła nakierować go na drogę powrotu do Boga i stanu doskonałości. Analiza stworzenia oraz analiza Pisma Świętego powinny zbliżać człowieka do Boga. Wypowiedź egzegetyczna stanowi ważny aspekt interpretacji Pisma, więc Eriugena stawia warunki, które są konieczne lub stanowią wsparcie dla poprawnego wnioskowania. Warunki te dotyczą niesprzeczności pomiędzy wspomnianymi Księgami, roli ludzkiego intelektu w prowadzonych badaniach oraz znaczenia ludzkich autorytetów. Autor artykułu omawia wymagania, określone przez Eriugenę i dokonuje ich interpretacji uwzględniając fakt rozwoju różnych dziedzin współczesnej nauki. ----------------------- Zgłoszono: 29/03/2022. W systemie filozoficznym Jana Szkota Eriugeny Niestworzona Natura Stwarzająca to Bóg, który jest Stwórcą wszystkiego. Istota Bożej Natury jest transcendentna i niepoznawalna. Bóg objawia się ludzkiej naturze poprzez dzieło stworzenia i tekst biblijny. Analiza stworzenia pozwala wnioskować o Stwórcy, że istnieje, że żyje i że jest Mądrością. Te trzy wnioski wskazują, że jeden Bóg istnieje jako troistość, w której Ojciec jest Istotą Bożej Natury, Syn jest Mądrością, a Duch Święty jest życiem. Powyższe wnioskowanie potwierdza również egzegeza biblijna. Bóg zaprasza człowieka (...) do poszukiwania prawdy. Ludzka natura jest odbiciem Niestworzonej Natury Stwarzającej, ponieważ człowiek został stworzony na obraz i podobieństwo Boga, o czym świadczy nieśmiertelna dusza i co potwierdza biblijna egzegeza. Struktura ludzkiej duszy jest obrazem Boga i człowiek może na podstawie analizy własnej duszy dojść do przekonania, że Bóg istnieje, oraz że w swej Istocie jest niepoznawalny. Sam przez się istnieje tylko Bóg, a całość stworzenia istnieje tylko dlatego, że Bóg podtrzymuje wszystko w istnieniu. Nie istnieje wśród stworzenia intelekt zdolny poznać Boga, lecz mimo tego historia świata zgromadziła różne zapisy dotyczące Boga, które wynikają z potrzeb ludzkiej natury oraz z konieczności niemilczenia chrześcijaństwa o Stwórcy. Dla ludzkich potrzeb określa się Boga, wskazując na różne atrybuty i czynności. System filozoficzny Eriugeny wskazuje, że powierzenie słowu ludzkiemu tajemnic Boga jest wielkim wysiłkiem, lecz jest to praca pożyteczna, ponieważ może zbliżać ludzi do Boga, co w każdej epoce jest ważne i słuszne. ----------------------------------------- Zgłoszono: 27/06/2023. W systemie filozoficznym Jana Szkota Eriugeny wszystko, co istnieje, to natura złożona z bytów i niebytów. Poznawalne dla ludzkiego intelektu części natury to byty, natomiast niepoznawalne części natury to niebyty. Bytem jest zmysłowa część natury ludzkiej oraz rzeczywistość materialnych form. Dla ludzkiego intelektu Niebytem jest Bóg oraz ustanowione przez Niego prymordialne przyczyny i materia. Bóg stworzył wszystko z niczego w ludzkiej naturze. Nierozumny wybór człowieka doprowadził do upadku ludzkiej natury i stworzenia, które z doskonałości przeszło do istnienia w świecie doczesnym. (...) Syn Boży – Bóg-Logos stał się człowiekiem, który dokonał odkupienia ludzkości. W ostatecznych czasach rzeczywistość materialna zostanie zniesiona i stworzenie w ludzkiej naturze dostąpi powszechnego powrotu do pierwotnej doskonałości. Ludzkie intelekty dokonają własnego – ostatecznego sądu i wybrani skierują się ku Stwórcy. Następnie dojdzie do przebóstwienia wybranych – zjednoczenia stworzenia ze Stwórcą bez zmieszania natur, bez zniesienia fundamentalnych różnic ontologicznych oraz bez panteizmu, który w tej koncepcji jest wykluczony. Przebóstwieni będą kontemplować Boga, co oznacza, że będą wiecznie poznawać Niepoznawalnego. Wydaje się, że nawet dla ludzi zgłębiających załomy filozoficznej wiedzy o Bogu w XXI wieku ta szczęśliwa wizja przebóstwienia, które będzie nieustannym procesem poznawania Niepoznawalnego, może być atrakcyjna. The aim of this article is to provide a comparative analysis of (i) the act of belief in Jan Łukasiewicz’s conception and (ii) the act of judging in the view of idiogenic theory of judgment. According to Łukasiewicz, the act of belief is not a propositional entity, which reproduces (correctly or not) the states of affairs to which it is intentional directed. Consequently, the act of belief is not a carrier of truth but rather a feeling of reality of something (...) to what it is directed. If one analyses Łukasiewicz’s remarks about beliefs, he would agree that the act of belief is the same as the act of judging understood within the idiogenic theory of judgment. In turn, in phenomenological terms: Łukasiewicz’s belief and idiogenic act of judging could be defined as “thetical moment” or “moment of capturing the reality” (R. Ingarden) or Setzungsmoment (E. Having assumed that drawing is one of the most natural forms of children’s expression the technique of the drawings of children aged 4 to 15 was investigated. The theme of the drawings was the visit of Pope John Paul II to Poland in June 1979. The investigation was supplemented by an interview based on the principles of interrogation according to Piaget. 197 children were examined on the whole. On the basis of the acquired analyses the following general conclusions can be (...) formulated :1. The image of the Pope’s visit to Poland emerges in the consciousness of the children as a relatively uniform reality. It shows that the children living in different regions of Poland felt similarly about these historic events.2. The obtained empirical data show that the children had no doubt that the Holy Father was the central subject of the events. It was manifested for example in the attempts to portray the Pope’s figure even among the youngest children (aged 4-5) and in depicting the Holy Father in the centre of the picture.3. Of all the events that took place during the Pope’s visit the ceremony of greeting at Warsaw airport was engraved most deeply on the memory of the children; probably due to the functioning of the mechanism of first psychical connections.4. The essence of the visit of John Paul II was fundamentally rendered by the children in terms of religious events and ideas. It was manifested in depictions of the Mass celebrated by the Pope as well as in the symbolism of the cross represented in the pictures. It seems important to stress the fact that some children managed to render the very profound theological import of the papal meetings such as, for example, the Christ-centered character of the meeting with the Pope on Plac Zwycięstwa (Victory Square).5. It was a surprising fact, discovered on the basis of the investigation, that the children showed a relatively high degree of the awareness as to the social role and the mission of the Pope, which was expressed among other things, in the thematic category of the pictures ’’among the people”; the outstretched arms of the Pope symbolized openness and friendliness towards the people and the world.6. The emotional expression of the drawings shows that the children either personally took part in the meetings with the Pope or were deeply influenced by the psychical atmosphere their parents and other adults lived at the time.7. The results of the interrogation indicate that the children knew a lot about the Pope and his visit to Poland.8. The children were aware of their subjectivity in experiencing the visit.9. The large scale character of the meetings with the Pope was rendered very vividly; it shows that the children were conscious of the mass-range of the subjectivity of the event.10. The formal analysis of the pictures revealed that the majority of the subjects managed to depict not only the outline of the objects, events and situations of the Pope’s visit to Poland, but also various details connected with it.The whole of the materials collected offers proof that the visit of John Paul II impressed itself deeply on the memory of the children and the impressions recorded manifest the importance of this event for each child as an individual subject experiencing the historic events important for the nation. Die integrale und zugleich positive Sicht der Kultur, wie Johannes Paul II. sie präsentiert, ist in seiner Konzeption der Person verwurzeit. Es ist eine Eigenschaft der menschlichen Person, dass sie fundamental - auf personele Dreifaltigkeit Gottes und auf Personen der anderen Menschen bezogen ist.Die Kultur offenbart und bestätigt die Würde der Person und realisiert sich durch das menschliche Handeln. Die Kultur bildet eine gewisse "mittlere Realität" zwischen dem rein Natürlichen und der übernatürlichen Intervention Gottes und ist zugleich eine spezifische Empfangnahme (...) und Inkorporation der Gnade. Durch die Kultur bringt sich der Mensch selbst zum Ausdruck, manifestiert er seine Erwartungen und Wünsche, geht er zugleich der Begegnung mit Gott entgegen. Die "Seele" der Kultur sollte die im Christlichen Sinne begriffene Liebe, die Affirmation der Würde und der Rechte eines jeden Menschen bilden. Die Kultur ist eine Bestätigung des Menschseins in der als "comminio personarum" verstandenen Gemeinschaft - eine Hingabe an Gott und eine Engagement für das authentische Wohl der anderen Personen.Diese Sicht der Kultur zeichnet sich durch einen auf die Wertschätzung aller Menschen gegründeten Universaliemus und durch die nieht auf Illusionen, sondern auf die Wahrheit gestützte Hoffnung aus. W 2009 roku Benedykt XVI podczas audiencji generalnej zaproponował krótkie rozważanie dotyczące myśli Jana Szkota Eriugeny, którego poglądy zostały czterokrotnie potępione. Filozofia Eriugeny bywała w historii najczęściej ujmowana jako sprzeczna z chrześcijaństwem panteistyczna wizja rzeczywistości lub patrystyka i chrześcijański neoplatonizm. Artykuł jest próbą ukazania ontologicznej wizji rzeczywistości, którą Eriugena zaproponował w ramach autorskiego systemu filozoficznego. Zgodnie z wynikami rozważań nad zaproponowanym przez filozofa podziałem rzeczywistości na byt i niebyt oraz przyjętym kryterium podziału, artykuł stanowi również próbę analizy, czym ten podział (...) skutkuje dla takich kategorii, jak Bóg, przyczyny rzeczy, człowiek, rzeczy zmysłowe i materia. Poglądy Eriugeny przeniknęły do europejskiej filozofii i w sposób ukryty oddziaływały, choć nie zostały w pełni docenione, a sam filozof nie został właściwie zrozumiany. (shrink)

W systemie filozoficznym Jana Szkota Eriugeny przyczyny prymordialne to stworzone przez Boga wieczne byty, które stanowią źródło porządku i doskonałą formę stworzenia. W sensie absolutnym idee i przyczyny prymordialne wymykają się ludzkiemu poznaniu, choć w pewnej mierze pozostają dostępne dla intelektu. Artykuł jest próbą ukazania idei i przyczyn w kontekście ich przyczynowości i poznawalności. (...) Warto, zdaniem autora, podjąć próbę takiego porównania, ponieważ Platon i Eriugena to postacie znaczące dla europejskiej kultury i naszej cywilizacji. (shrink)

Die von ihm geübte Kritik an den Monarchen verbindet sich deutlich mit der negativen sowie positiven Valorisierung historischer Ereignisse, an denen sie entweder teilnahmen oder deren Urheber sie waren. In diesem Artikel habe ich vor, die Ansichten von Adam Naruszewicz darzustellen, die er als Dichter zu einzelnen Herrschern Polens geäußert hat; ich möchte darauf hinweisen, was diese Ansichten betreffen und gleichzeitig die Zusammenhänge dargestellter historischer (...) Die ehemaligen Machthaber Polens schätz Adam Naruszewicz vor allem wegen: der Erweiterung und Verstärkung des Staatwesens Polens (Władysław Łokietek, Władysław Jagiełło, Kazimierz IV Jagiellończyk, Zygmunt II August), ihrer Bemühungen um die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung des Landes, der Gesetzgebung (Kazimierz Wielki), ihrer Kriegscrfolge (Władysław Jagiełło, Stefan Batory, Jan Kazimierz, Jan III Sobieski), der Unterstützung von Entwicklung der Kul tur und der Wissenschaft (Władysław Jagiełło, Stefan Batory, Zygmunt II August), ihrer Güte für die Untertanen (Jan III Sobieski). Przedmowa Problematyka związana z zależnościami przyczynowymi, ich modelowaniem i odkrywa¬niem, po długiej nieobecności w filozofii i metodologii nauk, budzi współcześnie duże zainteresowanie. Wiąże się to przede wszystkim z dynamicznym rozwojem, zwłaszcza od lat 1990., technik obli¬czeniowych. Wypracowane w tym czasie sieci bayesowskie uznaje się za matematyczny język przyczynowości. Pozwalają one na daleko idącą auto¬matyzację wnioskowań, co jest także zachętą do podjęcia prób algorytmiza¬cji odkrywania przyczyn. Na potrzeby badań naukowych, które pozwalają na przeprowadzenie eksperymentu z randomizacją, standardowe metody ustalania zależności przyczynowych (...) opracowano na początku XX wieku. Zupełnie inaczej sprawa przedstawia się w przypadku badań nieeksperymentalnych, gdzie podobne rozwiązania pozostają kwestią przyszłości. Zadaniem tej książki jest podanie warunków, które powinny być spełnione przez te rozwiązania, oraz sformułowanie proceduralnego kryterium zależności przy¬czynowych jako szczegółowej realizacji tych warunków. Pociąga ono waż¬kie konsekwencje dla filozofii i metodologii nauk, które ujawnia – podany w Części II – zarys me-todolo¬gii proceduralnej. W literaturze przedmiotu brakuje w miarę wszechstronnego i systema¬tycznego omówie¬nia najnowszych filozoficznych i metodologicznych dys¬kusji na temat przy¬czynowości, co niech będzie wytłumaczeniem, dlaczego w niektórych punktach obecnej książki szczegółowo referuję trudno dos¬tępne teksty źró¬dłowe. Przymiotnik „proceduralny” używam tu w znaczeniu węższym niż Huw Price (w którego pracach właściwszy byłby termin „kryterialny”) dla podkre¬ślenia – zgodnie z łacińskim źródłosłowem procedo – że dla ustalenia przy¬czyny niezbędne jest podjęcie przez uczonych określonych interakcji z ba¬daną rzeczywistością. Zalążki zamysłu prezentowanego w tej książce przedstawiłem podczas warsztatów filozoficznych „Philosophy and Probability” w roku 2002, zor¬ganizowanych przez Instytut Filozofii Uniwersytetu w Konstancji. Wdzięczny jestem uczestnikom tych warsztatów za uwagi, a przede wszyst¬kim następującym osobom: Luc Bovens, Brandon Fitelson, Alan Hájek, Stephan Hartmann oraz Jon Williamson. Podczas międzynarodowej konferencji „Analytical Pragmatism”, zorgani¬zowanej w Lublinie w roku 2003 przez Wydział Filo¬zofii Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, odniosłem swoją koncepcję do prac Nancy Cartwright. Ujęcie koncepcji metodologii proceduralnej na szerszym tle współ-czes¬nego nurtu empirystycznego w filozofii nauki przedstawiłem w roku 2004 podczas konferencji „5th Quadrennial Fellows Conference”, zorgani¬zowanej przez Instytut Filozofii Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego oraz Centrum Filozofii Nauki w Pittsburghu. Szczególnie pomocne w dalszych moich pra¬cach były uwagi Jamesa Bogena, Janet Kourany, Jamesa Lennoxa, Johna Nortona, Thomasa Bonka, Jana Woleńskiego i Johna Worralla, za które wyra¬żam swoją wdzięczność. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie powstania oddziału Towarzystwa „Dante Alighieri” we Lwowie w 1929 r., źródłowego. U podstaw zainicjowania działania towarzystwa leżały inspiracje kulturowe oparte na polsko-włoskich relacjach towarzyskich pomiędzy konsulem Włoch w Katowicach, Ferrucciem de Luppis, a rodziną Adama i Janiny de Lambert Ebenbergerów, które zostaną przybliżone w artykule. Istotną rolę w tym względzie odegrały także osoby związane z Uniwersytetem Jana Kazimierza we Lwowie, w którego murach – dzięki zaangażowaniu prof. Edmunda Bulandy – towarzystwo znalazło swoją siedzibę.

Golgotha in Mind. Charles the Bald and the Carolingian Combs - The ivory comb “of Saint Heribert”, probably carved in Metz around 870 and today held in Cologne’s Museum Schnütgen, features one of the most elaborate Carolingian representations of the Crucifixion. Yet it remains surprisingly little studied. Together, its function as a comb and its iconographic program imply an identification of the combed head with Golgotha, the “place of the skull” - that is, with Adam, and with Christ as (...) the new Adam. In light of current scholarship on related objects, connections can be established with Charles the Bald, whose imperial coronation in Rome in 875 involved a comb with zodiac signs (Victoria and Albert Museum, London). Analyzing the textual and material evidence on ivory combs in the ninth and tenth centuries, the essay explores the possibility that the Crucifixion comb was made in connection with Charles’s coronation at Metz in 869, and discusses the comb’s later attribution to Archbishop Heribert of Cologne (r. 999-1021). Golgota v mysli. Karel Holý a karolínské hřebeny - Slonovinový „Heribertův“ hřeben vytvořený pravděpodobně v Metách kolem roku 870 byl poprvé publikován v roce 1858. Dnes je uložený v muzeu Schnütgen v Kolíně a je jedním z nejobdivovanějších předmětů raného středověku. Paradoxně ale zůstává málo studovaným, bezpochyby kvůli své funkci, která je považovaná za triviální. Představuje však jedno z nejpropracovanějších znázornění ukřižování z karolínské doby. Umístění obrazu na hřebenu nabádá k identifikaci česané osoby s Golgotou, „místem lebky“ - tzn. s Adamem a s Kristem jako novým Adamem. Česání se tak pro česaného stávalo rituálním aktem pokání. Komplexní dekorace akantovými listy na druhé straně hřebenu podtrhuje vztahy mezi instrumentalitou a ikonicitou, dvoj- a trojrozměrností a vyjadřuje myšlenku naděje na nový život. Autor na hřeben pohlíží nově díky poznatkům o blízkých předmětech, jako jsou především vazba Evangliáře z Lindau (dnes v Morgan Library a New York Museum), slonovinový trůn sv. Petra v Římě, modlitební kniha Karla Holého v Pokladnici Královské residence v Mnichově a bronzová jezdecká socha v muzeu Louvre. Nachází tak vazby na filosofii Jana Scota Eriugeny a na insignie moci Karla Holého. Karel Holý pravděpodobně nebyl plešatý a při příležitosti jeho korunovace císařem v Římě na konci roku 875 byl vytvořen hřeben zdobený znaky zvěrokruhu, který byl bezpochyby ihned darován katedrále v Pavii. (Hřeben se nyní nachází ve Victoria and Albert Museum v Londýně.) Autor představuje hypotézu, že hřeben ze Schnütgen muzea vznikl v souvislosti s královskou korunovací Karla Holého v Metách v roce 869. Autor také shromažďuje textové a materiální prameny hovořící o dalších slonovinových hřebenech v devátém a desátém století a nově pohlíží především na hřeben z kolegiátního kostela v Quedlinburgu, který byl přivezen z jižního nebo východního Středomoří a poté byl zasazen do zlata a drahého kamení tak, že jeho ikonografie připomínala koně ozdobené pro vojenskou přehlídku. Nakonec si autor klade otázku, jak se kolínský hřeben dostal do vlastnictví opatství v Deutz, které založil arcibiskup Herbert z Kolína (999-1021), a proč byl pravděpodobně ve 12. století tomuto arcibiskupovi připsán. Adam Smith (c. 1723–1790) was a White Scottish philosopher and economist. This chapter is a selection from lectures that he delivered in 1763 but did not publish in his lifetime. In the selection, Smith analyzes the master-slave relation and its economic dimensions, arguing that slavery is generally unprofitable. He also explores the origins of slavery and contends that it will never be abolished in its entirety, even though it is economically unprofitable. Smith’s economic argument against slavery was enormously influential, (...) though his claims were contested by many proponents of slavery. Smith makes similar arguments, though less detailed, in his 1776 magnum opus An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, typically referred to simply as The Wealth of Nations. This is a reply to de Sousa's 'Emotional Truth', in which he argues that emotions can be objective, as propositional truths are. I say that it is better to distinguish between truth and accuracy, and agree with de Sousa to the extent of arguing that emotions can be more or less accurate, that is, based on the facts as they are.

The English Franciscan philosopher and theologian, Adam of Wodeham (d. 1358), was a disciple and friend of William of Ockham; he was also a student of Walther Chatton. Nevertheless, he was an independent thinker who did not hesitate to criticize his former teachers - Ockham sporadically and benevolently, Chatton, frequently and aggressively. Since W odeham developed his own doctrinal position by a thorough critical examination of current opinions, the first part of this introduc tion briefly outlines the positions of (...) the chief figures in the English controversy over indivisibles. The second part of the introduction pre sents a summary of Wodeham's views in the Tractatus de indivisibilibus, lists the contents of the treatise, and considers the question of its date and its chronological position in the context of Wodeham's other works. In the third part, the editorial procedures used here are set forth. 1. THE INDIVISIBILIST CONTROVERSY In the literature of the 13th and 14th centuries, the term 'indivisible' refers to a simple, un extended entity. Consequently, these indivisibles are not physical atoms but either mathematical points, temporal instants or indivisibles of motion, usually called mutata esse. I THOMAS BRADWARDINE (d. 1349), roughly contemporary with Wodeham, classified the positions it was possible to take regarding indivisibles. He described his own view as the common view, that of "Aristotle, A verroes, and most of the moderns," according to which a "continuum was not composed of atoms (athomis) but of parts divisible without end. The feminist charge that Michel Foucault's work in general and his history of sexuality in particular are masculinist, sexist, and reflect male biases vexes feminist philosophers of disability who believe his claims about (for instance) the constitution of subjects, genealogy, governmentality, discipline, and regimes of truths imbue their feminist analyses of disability and ableism with complexity and richness, as well as inspire theoretical sophistication and intellectual rigor in the fields of philosophy of disability and disability studies more generally. No aspect (...) of Foucault's corpus has been more consistently subjected to the charges of masculinism and male bias than his example of the nineteenth-century farmhand Charles Jouy who, at about forty years of age, engaged in sexual activity with a girl, Sophie Adam, was reported to authorities, and subsequently was incarcerated in Maréville for the rest of his days. My central aim in this paper is to interrupt the momentum of the accepted feminist interpretation of the Jouy case by advancing a feminist perspective on Jouy's identity and the incidents involving Jouy and Adam that takes seriously insights derived from philosophy of disability and critical disability theory and history.
