India had been competing with Nigeria to host the Games, but Commonwealth Sport has said it will “develop a strategy for supporting and accelerating” Nigeria’s ambitions to host future Games, including possible consideration for 2034.
In a press release, Commonwealth Sport confirmed, “The Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport has today confirmed that it will recommend Amdavad, India, as the proposed host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.”
The release added, “Amdavad will now be put forward to the full Commonwealth Sport membership, with the final decision taking place at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on 26 November.”
India previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, when New Delhi was the host city.
