For my part I’m trying to gently keep them away from blue MAGA thought (extremely prevalent here, my oldest shared with me some of their friends were engaging in Obama apologia re: deportations) and towards correct politics. I made sure to tell them take note of the friends who joined them and stay close, and think about what (if anything) they wanna do next. Their lives are busy too, after all.

My high schoolers participated in their walkout. One of em made a #FUCKICE poster, the other came home with a sign saying “Borders are manmade, human rights are universal,” and I was so proud. They told their other friends’ parents were reluctantly supportive at best. One of their friends with a MAGA father participated despite their dad threatening (and following through with) punishment. Made me feel a little weird. I know I didn’t have that kind of sauce when I was their age. I’m really proud of them and their friends.
