This headline feels surreal lol, hasn’t been that long since Nvidia was a glorified hobbyist supplier
My turn on the lathe:
Nvidia sells Meta a decade of GPUs for data centers that will never exist, they make the chips but the data centers never exist, Meta collapses and pivots the whole business to reselling all the chips they can’t use at fire sale prices.
The patient gamer always wins. 🧘
Hopefully there will be many smart people dedicated to optimizing them for gaming in this beautiful vision of the future.
There is no “optimizing” these chips for anything except datacenter usage. They aren’t GPUs in the same sense of one you’d buy and put into your computer. They look like this. https://www.hyperstack.cloud/hs-fs/hubfs/hyperstack_2023/landing_page/NVIDIA-blackwell-b100/nvidia-gb200-nvl72.webp https://regmedia.co.uk/2024/03/20/nvidia_gb200_nvl72_front.jpg https://preview.redd.it/hands-on-with-the-real-big-gpus-gb200-nvl72-grace-cpu-2x-v0-il3c1ge8fh6f1.jpg?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=eace3fd523c1bd0ea96264ce508c5216c8a70122
I knew they were designed differently, though not to what extent.
I looked into it a bit after commenting and it appears that the architectures are designed too differently to be useful in that capacity.
Perhaps a sort of expansion module could be created with cores better suited to rendering.
Idk if that’s possible, but you’ll be able to do some killer home server stuff. Contribute to open source scientific calculations and stuff.
A face in need of a fist.
Do you like my jacket?
