Funny@lemmygrad.ml•Watching AI companies complain that their intellectual property is not being respected will never stop being hilarious
11·1 day agoThey’re just mad they can’t do shit about Chinese companies that are releasing open LLMs that destroy the whole service business model US companies were gunning for. The whining might be setting up a pretext for banning them.

World News@lemmygrad.ml•‘A good way of dealing with overpopulation’: Epstein files reveal how the rich fuel climate denialism
8·3 days agoI’d argue the whole mystique billionaires have been building up kind of fell away as soon as people like Musk got unfiltered access to social media. All of a sudden you can see these are just regular people who got supremely lucky.
Seems like they can just wait for the south to collapse at this point. There’s a huge demographic crisis there. Soon they’re not going to have enough of a working age population to even field a proper military or run their society.

Capitalism in Decay@lemmygrad.ml•How the social democratic élite set the stage for German FascismEnglish
3·3 days agoVery much agree with all that. The SPD has always been an inherently reactionary party that’s focused on preserving capitalism. It only made sense that they would ally with the fascists against the communists. Incidentally, I notice a lot of parallels between the ‘progressive’ wing of the Democratic party in the US and SPD. I wrote about that here.
I completely agree with the criticism of KPD focusing too much on SPD and trying to work within the system, instead of organizing grassroots power and building dual power. They largely ignored the lessons from the Bolsheviks in my opinion, and refused to accept the necessity of armed struggle early on.

europe@hexbear.net•High energy prices threaten UK’s status as manufacturing power, business groups sayEnglish
8·4 days agoEnergy UK, which represents more than 100 electricity generators and retailers, said business electricity costs remained 70% higher than before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while gas prices were 60% higher.
I love how no direct connection is made between the start of sanctions on Russia and the outcome. They talk about it as if these are two unrelated events without even mentioning the sanctions or the economic war with Russia.

Technology@lemmygrad.ml•How Taalas "prints" LLM onto a chip?
4·4 days agoI’m guessing they implemented it as proof of concept because it’s a well known model, and has simple architecture. I’m really looking forward to full blown 600+ bln param chips. That’s where shit gets real. And just imagine this stuff applied to robotics. Those Unitree robots with a DeepSeek chip would basically be Star Wars droids.

news@hexbear.net•Rubio Declared a Return to Brutal Western Colonialism – and Europe applaudedEnglish
14·5 days agoThat particular bit is very much on point. What they’re all really upset about is that the empire is turning on them. They were perfectly fine with the prior arrangement, and they’re all still hoping that things can go back to the way they were. The Europeans in particular are very obviously trying to wait Trump out. It seems like Carney is a bit more realistic about the state of things, and he’s trying to hedge.

news@hexbear.net•Cubans fight blackouts with solar as US extends oil chokeholdEnglish
19·5 days agoIn fact, I would argue we’re seeing the reverse of the Cold War playing out right now. China is leading the bigger economic bloc, and it controls the vast majority of global manufacturing. Meanwhile, the US led bloc is rapidly descending into chaos and starting to fight itself already.
