I swear to god that drivers get worse in the winter, I see so many more people on there phones, being stupid and pulling into junctions they can’t clear and getting in bikers way when it’s wet, cold and around harder to break.

No I think I wouldn’t have met half the people I have today including partners. The internet can be an amazing place but sadly there’s those that make it bad, it’s one of the reasons I’m on the Fediverse pushing for a better internet with interaction instead of hatred

@mosseri When are you getting 1:1 integration to the Fediverse? It was told to the Fediverse it was coming a long time ago and then blow past the due dates.

It feels as if Threads used it to get uses and just decided that it was not going to do the one thing that made the platform different than the other major social medias that are also owned by billionaires.

To be blunt, when we first got the @gofedi site up and running, my main concern was just having a web presence while we migrate SpaceHost customers to our new service.

Because here’s the truth: right before @spacehost shuts down, we hammered out a deal to move instances over so nobody loses their community. And honestly, it would be tragic if all those great servers—including mine—just vanished because is sunsetting.

However, once the site went live, it immediately got attention—so I decided to lean into it.

So yes, @gofedi exists. It’s here because there should be a fully managed Fediverse host—based in Canada—that gives people choice in both software and service.

And yeah, it’s a little wild that I’m doing this while also co-founding the Federated Video Co-op Initiative.

But god damn it—the best way to grow the Fediverse is to actually get more servers running.

@RxBrad Yes it doesn't start for a year but some developers might want to be ready for it otherwise you could forget, Others will probably suggest people to do things like move over to GrapheneOS on Pixel's as Google has no say in what they accept and don't

Loops may be the first fediverse platform that requires S3 (for avatar/video storage) to function properly.

I went this route because of how cheap object storage is, and the fact that our medium is the most heavy, relatively speaking compared to plain text or audio or images.

Just added a warning about this to the install guide, and will add local storage support before the final v1 release.

@dansup Would it be good to add support for many object storage based systems? Instead of just S3, as lots of people don't like Amazon and isn't what the Fediverse is about. having choice like using Google's Bucket System or even setting up your own is really helpful to have.

@dansup I can't speak for all the criticism you've received but me and a few others only criticize to help improve systems like the Fediverse, I use the Fediverse as my source of information & publication at this point and love your projects, It just seems you are thinning your focus between all the different projects, Well I would never say you've done nothing for the Fediverse having to focus on the several projects at the same time with slow updates doesn't really help much.

From my understanding, You where meant to hire a team of people to help on these PixelFed projects as apart of the Kickstarter Funding but so far nothing has been said (as far as I know / see). Developing the team and having people that can fully help push the PixelFed Foundation would be really helpful. It's also good to keep Transparency & Deadlines to make sure projects and things are on track.

Again I don't think you are a bad person and are doing your best. There is only so much one developer can do especially with a project this scale, you are only one person. It is okay to need help with these projects.

@dansup @trwnh That's the beauty of Open-Source! Nothing stopped them from forking it, and nothing should. They are no longer federating and if they where I'd suggest to de-federate, there is terms in forking things like Mastodon, but these are things like keeping the software up-to date (what I believe both haven't), but it's never about if someone can or can't fork something otherwise we are no better than the Centralized Social Media Slop we've moved away from, Control is not the answer.

@trwnh @dansup Agreed, I was just pointing out by putting restrictions on people creating there forks and alternatives it's not what the Fediverse was built around. We should be critical but also give constructive criticize when possible.

I personally plan to write up a big write up in the near future (if I remember and have the time) talking about the downfalls of the Fediverse so far and the ways we could improve them.

I'm thinking and planning on advocating for the Fediverse a lot more due to the UK Online Safety Act. I think it might be best to write it all down as a part not only some flyers that I can get printed and hand out to many people.

This will come with a page on my company website to showcase and explain further why & how they can join the Fediverse.

@donhawkins I'm still unsure how to truly self-host but there's masto.host what is amazing to host your own Mastodon Instance for you and your friends for a monthly fee.

I would also suggest SpaceHost.one but sadly they still haven't been able to sort out there payment system yet.

@donhawkins Then yeah you will most likely have to self-host if you don't want servers in USA, I'm unsure of any easy to use providers that aren't based in the USA, If i can work out how to host Mastodon and other Fediverse software on a Raspberry Pi I will be trying to launch a easy self-host kit for people but sadly I don't know enough about hosting for that myself (yet)

@donhawkins You don't have to host your own there's plenty of instances that are outside of the US that you can join.

The main problem at the moment that I've found is it's hard to find hosting providers for your own Fediverse instances and is hard for an average person to work out how to host it themself, maybe something that will get better over time.

@rbates Buffer isn't a bad option, For Bluesky and Mastodon though there's a bridge you can use. (I know this is a late reply just thought I'd put my two cents out there.)
