Before we arrived to the arcade to have a Valentine’s Day themed pinballing day, we stopped at Nirvana tea room. They’re still hanging in there after Papulaari had to close their cafe next door. But Tony at Nirvana was able to add a few seats into his relaxation room’s waiting area and turn it into a tea room, where a few customers can have tea or coffee and just sit down in peace.
So we left the house a little earlier to have a moment to just sit down at Nirvana. Especially, since Kimmo from Papulaari was there too, brewing his awesome coffee.
It’s been a really sunny but freezing cold day today. The sun was shining through the window and warming the space really nicely. I did have to ask Tony to lower the screen a little as the sun was shining right into my eyes 😅
Besides Tony and Kimmo there was also Tony’s partner Anu, who is also a lecturer at the campus I’m working at.
Kimmo brewed us some Cicciolina manually, and it was so good. I’ve missed having his professionally brewed coffee and this type of calm place where there’s no rush to be anywhere.

Another thing has arrived 😊
The Vegan Baking Bible by Karolina Tegelaar.
I never checked the page count for this, so I was surprised how big the book is. I leafed through the pages a bit and it seems to show lots of helpful things like what does a cake look like when you replace eggs with other things, how using aquafaba (the boiling water of peas and beans) works to replace eggs and how it works as vegan meringue, what bakes look like when you replace fat and dairy with vegan products etc.
I am going to have a blast with this book!

The same book slanted to the side to show how thick it is.

I watched the movie this song is the title theme for, Pahat Pojat (2003), and I had completely forgotten its existence. It’s still such a banger.

That movie has a really good soundtrack. Great Finnish music.

I had to come back to this.
And share some of the other songs, too.
Like these songs give you an idea of me aged 17. These and basically anything alike to these dominated my playlists at 17, while I was still trapped in that shithole of a town I grew up in. These songs played at full volume in my headphones during recess in upper secondary.

It's been years since the last time I listened to these songs, and I still pretty much remember them by heart.

The original In the Shadows by The Rasmus, before they broke out into the rest of the world big time. That The Rasmus which I remember and cherish.

Honestly, the only bands who I miss the way they were back in the day definitely are The Rasmus and Apulanta. I can't with their new stuff. That's not who they were.

The video for the song is literally one of the scenes in the movie, too.
Which was based on a true story of a group of brothers, who did around 100 robberies, most notably those of gas stations and a few banks in the 1990s.
While it's not a particularly great movie, it's worth a watch, if only for the story.

Once again I had to stay home from work, because I woke up with an insane migraine. It made no sign of sneaking on last night, so I couldn’t prevent it.
So I had to call my supervisor, coworker and boss. They managed to deal with pretty much all things that needed to be dealt with today. Even tomorrow’s all day catering order got cancelled. Not sure if by the people who ordered it or if my supervisor decided that it won’t happen, even if she knows that I usually am in the next day after a migraine. But anyway, I will be in tomorrow and do the things I had planned to do.

When I called my boss, she relayed a message from one of yesterday’s catering orders. I mean I did do my best for all three, as they were for the principal, and the morning one was the biggest and most detailed. So the message was a big thank you, that it was very good. So that made me feel a bit better.

Coworker called me to help her through the lunch items. I explained how I usually make casseroles. I’m sure she did great.

Today’s for funsies felt extra special, because it’s Veikka’s 28th today! The dude with long hair and the vintage flanel on 😁 I made a note of it, so next year I’ll have a little something for him.
The normal round was played on Mousin’ Around, which Veikka won hands down, Contact, which Topi took, and Fish Tales, which I won, but since my score doesn’t count, it was won by Veikka.
For funsies round was on The Twilight Zone, with a cloth obscuring the view. Mika won that, because he managed to get the power ball.

Joonas playing Contact while the rest of us look on. Topi on the left had made a face as I was taking the shot but started turning away before my phone took the shot
Veikka playing Contact while Joonas leans against another pinball machine, Nico looks on behind him and Saku is standing further away
Mika playing The Twilight Zone with its playfield covered with a black cloth, while Nico looks on.

It took me a while but I figured there has to be a way to play in 3rd person view, because that’s how I played Skyrim and Oblivion, too.
I’m still very much in the beginning, in Balmora doing Fighters’ Guild stuff since that’s what the shirtless guy wanted me to do. I just slew two egg poachers in a cave.

I did explore a random cave in the first town, for the hell of it and managed not to die 😂

You can’t tell but I’m playing as a Dunmer, as always. Why change it now when I already played Oblivion and Skyrim as a dark elf?

It will still take some getting used to how you interact with characters. And apprently there are no quest markers? At least at the moment I can’t choose which area of the map I want to go, I have to read directions from my journal.
Which on the other hand is an interesting way to play, having to figure out for myself which way to go to get where I need to be.

Also, this game seems to really like putting Y’s and TH’s into people’s names 😂 or rather THR’s, there are a bunch of -threns and -thrans now.

I need to figure out how to level up quicker. I did figure out that it seems to need gaining points/levels of the skills, like in Oblivion, but I am still only level one. And I’m supposed to do a thing for the Fighters’ Guild by taking out four Thieves’ Guild members by an ebony mine near Caldera. The lookout was fairly easy to take down, despite requiring some sleep to regain health, but the other three gang up on me and I keep dying. So that tells me I need to increase at least my blade or blunt weapon and blocking skills.
I returned to Balmora to heal because Caldera doesn’t have an inn. And to see if there’s something else I could do.

I really want to get into this game and figure it out.

quester OP ,
@quester@mstdn.games avatar

I will admit that I am taking some guidance from a walkthrough, just a bit. Like I needed to figure out what to do about the ebony thieves who kept fighting me three to one. I did meet Hlormar Wine-Sot along the way and he started to follow me. But I could not figure out where to find the witch, as I kept going the wrong way. I managed to lose him on my way back to Balmora, and found the witch a bit later. But I have retraced my steps at least three times and no sign of Hlormar.
So I still have his axe. Which helped me take care of the thieves at long last.
I also figured out you can’t sell stuff to people you stole the things from 🤣 I found some alchemy stuff at the Caldera Mages’ Guild, all unattended. The second I tried to sell them to their trader, I got attacked. So yeah, need to bring stuff to other places.
Fighters’ Guild don’t like if you put stuff in a crate and then try to take it back, same thing happens.

Now it’s starting to feel a bit more like what I expected. I’m at a Dwemer ruin and they seem to have looked quite the same even as early on as this game.
Of course they’re more elaborate in Skyrim, but now I absolutely am starting to feel like I’m playing a game set in Tamriel. Excellent.

It’s always a gamble to order food to the arcade through Foodora. Because our entrance is at the back of the building, we need to put instructions for the delivery person to find us.
Trouble is, we won’t know if the person knows Finnish or English.
Or whether they even bother to read the instructions.
Today’s burgers came in cold, because the driver went to the number 3 building instead of number 5, where we are. And then called claiming there’s no one there. Well, yeah, because you’re in the wrong place 🙄

Anyway, my burger was alright, even if it was cold. The fries with aioli were decent.

Shots from my way home from the bus stop.
Somebody had built a snowman by the road 😊
It’s not very cold so the snow’s slowly turning into slush. This is one of the parts of winter I dislike. It looks so depressing.
It’ll get worse, of course, because the temperature’s going down again this weekend, so this slushy snow will turn to ice. Yaaay.

I had two options: Steam or Switch. I chose Steam.
So now I have yet another game waiting to be played, Slay the Princess 😁

Along with a few dozen other games 😅 But once I am done with this Mass Effect run, my plan is to play games I have had waiting in my queue for ages.

Evening coffee, because I don’t plan to go anywhere this weekend, and Mass Effect 3. I just finished everything in the Citadel DLC so it’s time to see what’s next in the main game.

Despite our boss being in today, I'm feeling quite good about today. Mainly, because even if boss took my coworker away before lunch time ended and left me to do all of that clearing up and closing stuff, I was pleased to see that I was able to get everything done before my shift ended. So I am even more hopeful about tomorrow.

And my coworker got to witness how boss talks to us, so I didn't have to say anything to her about it. Coworker's reaction to boss being her rude self was genuine.
And boss kept her overtime because she can't shut up.

I just got off the phone with my supervisor, who is on our side, she absolutely knows how our boss is. And it's so calming to know that despite boss claiming to have 30+ years of experience in the field, she has zero experience in our specific line of work. That is so hilarious!

@dhedgehog It wasn’t that long time ago that I started watching Midsomer Murders on Brit Box and I already forgot there was an episode like that!

@dhedgehog Very possible! It’s also ridiculous how much murder one village/town can have happening. But it’s also really good, I binged all of the available series and I’m waiting for more to come to Brit Box, it’s missing all of the ones starring the cousin as the inspector.
