Besides the awful NPC chatter, I'm fascinated by how this game looks. I'm not a graphics expert, but this feels "vertex lit" ? Shadows and materials are super inconsistent, yet clearly "art-directed"
Watching it, it seems like it could run on a Gamecube that got an imaginary RAM expansion pack.
[WIP] This weekend I tried different Steam capsule ideas...
What do you think of it? Nothing is particularly blowing my mind for now so you can say it's sh*t haha but if you have any ideas, it's welcomed 😅 #indiedev#indiegame#gamedev#solodev#godot
Yesterday's news, now this. 😭
If one of the most experienced devs and maker of one of the most famous games of all time can randomly get the funding pulled, what chance does rest of us have?
Also, what's the purpose of publishers at this point?
Get thousands of low poly assets for Godot in the GODOT4 Mega Polygon Assets Bundle. I will have an in-depth video/review showing these assets up tomorrow.
@GameFromScratch
Really curious how properly these are set up for Godot.
A lot of these recently have been very lazy Unity/Unreal conversions.
No good/proper demo scenes, no collisions, broken directory references or materials. It's a shame, cause Godot devs are hungry for those. Could make a killing if they get it right.
"Fast travel" in most games is just teleporting, bad lazy game design for a problem of your own making. Two better examples of what to do instead: Morrowind (mix of lore-friendly mechanics), FRONTIERS (very cool solution to fast travelling, but game has lots of other issues) #PhilsHotTakes
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a fantastic immersive world and an artistic achievement, but I find it such a chore to play. Almost every action feels tedious. #PhilsHotTakes
Games shouldn't aspire to movies/TV shows. A better source of inspiration and aspiration would be: plays, interactive art, kinetic art, conceptual art, new media art. #PhilsHotTakes
Steams review system is completely broken.
For devs it's more often detrimental than helpful (hurting visibility, reputation, forcing devs to beg for reviews etc)
For customers, it doesn't provide the info they seek. #PhilsHotTakes
Games and especially indies should experiment more with alternative input devices!
The reason Guitar Hero and spinoffs were big was not just music, it was also incredibly fun to finally use something other than a game pad.
Using MIDI or Arduino, this can also be done cheap. #PhilsHotTakes
@JessTheUnstill
Yeah, I'm ignoring free-to-play here.
In both of these cases I stand by it.
"Loss-leader" games = at least $10.
Single episodes of episodic games = at least $10
Another game finished not too long ago: THE INVINCIBLE: A fantastic game and probably my second most favorite "hard sci-fi" game, next to OBSERVATION. Fantastic story, gorgeous design and great voice acting. Can't wait to see what Starward Industries does next. Check it out!
anyone have experience with the 8bitdo ultimate? ive been eyeing it for ages (with wifi dongle) cause i want a really good wireless controller and every single bluetooth controller i've ever owned has had connection inconsistency issues
but i kinda wanna know its actually good before dropping that kinda money. thinking of getting it for myself as a little present for releasing kitsune tails
@eniko I have one and use it pretty regularly with my PC (dongle) and Switch (Bluetooth).
Switching between the two works great cause there's a little switch on the back of the controller, so no need to repair each time.
I use the docking station with it. So it charges when on the station. When picked up, it auto-connects to the PC within seconds.
It's a fantastic controller in my opinion. The shoulder buttons are proper buttons (and not those "mouse button"/clicky ones). It feels very similar to the Switch Pro controller.
@godotengine I've been working on #COGITO, a Godot project template for first person games/immersive sims.
Here's a feature video post with my tutorial seriers in the replies. 😇
