Anyone in interested in 3 Franz Ferdinand tickets for Friday 28th at the Botanical Gardens?

General admission, bought on impulse because a friend was visiting from out of town, turns out our friend can't make it and we have school stuff on anyway, if you're interested make an offer.

Maybe my next game could be about assassinating dictators :thinkerguns:

But not fictional ones ofc, great way to give the finger and let out some steam perhaps!

Suppose I wanted to throw a silent rave party some day, and said event would be open to anyone to attend provided they bring their own headphones and receiver.

What would be the best form of legal broadcast such that 1) the event could happen in a small park, 2) the required receiver is relatively easy to obtain, 3) the broadcast is heard relatively synchronously, and 4) doesn't require the attendees have a radio license, and 5) doesn't require me to have an expensive license?

@nickzoic@aus.social avatar

@aeva depending on your location there may be exemptions for very low power FM, like under 1W? Bluetooth always seems to come with some arbitrary amount of buffer latency.

@aeva oh good, I want to find a transmitter/earphones combo that make watching movies on the plane not annoying so that's a useful start.

It's so funny to me that literally any and all news about Fedi is framed

"What is this mysterious Fediverse - literally noone knows - we shall explain it to you in a way that is impenetrable"

They always start by talking about protocols and ActivityPub forks whilst I'm over here posting pictures of sexy carrots and the Pope doing sick skateboard tricks

nickzoic ,
@nickzoic@aus.social avatar

@TheBreadmonkey The Fediverse has exactly one problem which is that it has 14 different names and they're all bad. Am I here on "aus.social"? Is this a "fediverse"? Is this "mastodon"? Is that the same as "mastodon.social"? No normal person cares. So the conversation goes down a black hole of trying to define what a fediverse is, thus activitypub blah blah blah.

Doom crash after 2.5 years of real-world runtime confirmed on real hardware

https://lenowo.org/viewtopic.php?t=31

nickzoic ,
@nickzoic@aus.social avatar

@h4ckernews This is awesome because not only did the author build a custom low-voltage UPS to keep the device running for 2.5 years, and remember to check on it after 2.5 years, they also can't find the work they did to work out why it was going to crash in 2.5 years, because, fair enough, that was 2.5 years ago.

Also it seems like their website has been flattened by the attention which is such a lovely throwback to the 00s.

    @NanoRaptor (student edition) Your final school exam results don't actually matter worth shit in the long run, because there's so many other ways to get where you're going and you don't even know where that is yet.

    WSJ - Tesla's board has opened a search for a CEO to succeed Elon Musk. https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/tesla-musk-ceo-search-board-0ce61af9?st=fzBa6i

    @w7voa Hilarous. Is keeping him as CEO worth umpteen billion dollars in remuneration or is he a liability to be disposed of? Only minds as polished as those of the Tesla board can transcend this dichotomy.

    Does Unicode have any symbols that are like » or «, but pointing up and down instead of left and right

    I'm trying to find something that I can use which is (1) visually distinct from < ^ > v and (2) clearly shows up in gnome-terminal (🠈 🠊 for example overflow a single cell)

    Contrarian opinion: Brunch should be embraced as fundamentally leftist because eggs and pancakes are foods which can be easily prepared in mass quantities. Communist Brunch is logistically attainable. If longhouses returned to the northeast in the modern era they would serve brunch

    @mcc The most typical cut here in Australia is "middle bacon" which is back bacon at one end and side bacon at the other and another great candidate for an epic handshake meme.

    @aeva this looks pretty cool, have you written about it at more length somewhere?

    nickzoic ,
    @nickzoic@aus.social avatar

    @aeva OK, well, I look forward to reading more when it gets there!

    I was messing around a while ago with generating irregular meshes where each node has 5 neighbours, in an attempt to do a kind of mesh simulation without the symmetry of the axes interfering ... never got far with it though ...
