I’m missing Vietnam. This time of year particularly. It’s lunar new year. It’s Tet time. Happy days with family, food, social times. I particularly miss Hanoi. Friends of mine going to their villages for the long holiday. Enjoy. I miss you all. Chúc mừng Năm Mới!

is two days before we go to the beach. Go to see a friend of my wife’s in Sihanoukville. It takes the van all day to get there and some blogging too.

But now it’s earlier. Now I sit at a favored coffee spot for the wonderful warmed almond croissant and coffee. I’ll walk first and then take my wife out for some meal. I only eat one a day now so it’s some combination of lunch and dinner. With beer.

For now it’s this time to journal and think. My wife putters around the house. Trying different clothes she will pack and likely not wear. I take the usual. Dressing here is forever summer. Shorts, t shirt and some walking shoes that have lasted.

Coffee and croissant. Yum.

is down to the river to find absolutely nothing needing doing. The weather has been beautiful. There’s these weeks or so between rainy and dry season where the days cool off.

I can sit at a favored spot and have an iced americano and watch the day go by. The big windows here frame my view. For years have loved coming here. There’s a scene right out the window of river and traffic and I’m so close yet far.

Today I’ll walk a place. Feel the day gather itself around me. I have some steps to take. Uncounted or measured. Since I stopped counting steps I started finding my moments becoming more.

See you . I’ll be wandering your roads and alleys and side streets soon. But I have to do this first.

Out the big window at Noi Cafe. Time to gather and lose. I do both.

I did good. My wife told me go drink. Have a beer. I cannot do a beer. I must have some beers. It’s Saturday. I’m looking at beautiful skies after a rainy afternoon.

And beer. And the young Khmer guy that insists on bringing beer to me. Akun kingdom of wonder. I guess I will go home and do whatever. I wonder if there’s beer there.

Someone asked me where I would be if not here. Maybe sitting in Hanoi. Or da Nang. Or the little cafe in Can Tho by the delta. I can’t help most places are Vietnam. It’s just what occurs to me at beer thirty.

Beautiful days. Cold beer. Wonderful.

@Daojoan acceptance is the hardest thing. We go through so many stages of things. Yet when I felt I had done the others it became the hardest one for one failed thing that persisted over 20 years. It all has a half life and it takes that long sometimes to find acceptance.

Been a rainy and sunny and different set of days. Now I can sit and not decide anything. My passport left for Phnom Penh and another visa page taken up. Yesterday met someone for coffee. This morning after a night of rain we have these undecided skies. Cambodia cannot make its mind up.

So I sit at Ur or Your cafe. Take your choice. One of the regular places I enjoy kinda close to our house. My iPhone runs 26 now. I like it. Uncovered no issues but of course I do really little on it besides writing, a few older games, and some photos now and then. The iPhone 13 seems happy.

Now I turn my massive intellect and problem solving skills to nothing at all. I will toot therefore.

Coffee time. Morning in Siem Reap. I am the only barang. I blend in so well. Hahaha.

@Daojoan when I gave up all the measuring and steps taken and goals, the real enjoyment set in. The desire to just do the thing for its own sake. We all really go after measurement way too much. Then and only then did the things become things I loved just doing.

Here's what I got done this week.

  • I shut down my marketing business because marketing tech doesn't align with my values
  • I deleted my YouTube channel and canceled YouTube Premium and Google App Suite to stop being a part of the Google ecosystem
  • I deleted my book, because it didn't adequately represent my worldview
  • I wrote 5 columns in The Index and a bunch of posts on my blog
  • I drank hella coffee
