I'm probably best known as the person who started the #Safari and #WebKit projects at #Apple. You may think you know my deadname but... you don't.

I've drawn underground comics, pioneered using a Mac for newspaper graphics and developed software at Adobe and Netscape.

Now I write video #transcoding scripts and sometimes podcast.

The rest of the day is just the final prep for surgery (shower and packing a bag) and I hope to squeeze in a long walk outside and some video gaming.

@tezoatlipoca Safari and WebKit weren't written from scratch. They were based on the simple KHTML and KJS codebases from KDE. Even back in 2001, I knew better than to try conjuring a Web browser out of thin air.

Mind you, we (not just I, it was a team effort) could have done that but it would have taken many years instead of the mere 18 months we were given.

And I knew that if I took longer, well, I would have been fired. So practical engineering was the smarter path.

This will be a long post so bear with me.

So there’s a secret I have been carrying around all my life. It’s something that I realized when I was young and as the years went on it became clearer and clearer. But because I was raised in a deeply religious and bigoted family I kept that secret buried deep inside. Keeping it buried has done a number on my mental health over the years. Depression is something that has remained a constant in my life. But I soldiered on and continued living a lie.

I’m sure by now you’re either figured it out or are wondering what this secret is. So let me just go ahead and say it…I’m . I’ve battled gender dysphoria all my life. I cosplayed as a man and engaged in hobbies and pursuits that were super masculine to hide the fact that inside was this woman screaming to get out. I got married, became a father, and continued pretending. But the dysphoria continued and depression took its toll on both my health and marriage.

Fast forward to last week. While chatting with my Big Sister Wren this secret could not stay buried any longer and my egg cracked. I told her I was trans. All at once a huge weight was lifted off my chest. I cried. She cried. And my world changed.

So here I am…Applefangirl. Hopefully those that follow me will continue to do so and support me over the next few years as I begin this transition journey. So this is my last post on this account (and it will be my pinned post on my new account). Love you all! 🩷

i have been thisclose to an meltdown because the A/C in my apartment is broken and i have had problems sleeping at night.

also, as many of y’all know, it has not been a year since my last treatment. my body is still coping with the after-effects of chemo, immunotherapy and radiation. my nuclear boob is still breaking out in a rash if it’s too hot or too sunny.

so just a reminder: the heat exacerbates many conditions.

I've finally managed to reply to and thank all the wonderful people who, here and on my website, wrote such supportive comments about my essay on Sunday. At least I hope it was all of you! If I missed anyone I'm sorry.

You know, this is why I don't write many original posts. I always feel obligated to reply. But that's just my neurodivergence and trauma showing.

    Aside from it's inherent shittiness, when that behavior is normalized, it gives cover to white supremacists and transphobes to test the waters in every place they enter, to see if this place will tolerate and support their bigotry.

    1. Get your country to accept trans refugees from the US & UK

    Today is my second HRTversary. Two years of Hormone Replacement Therapy. 🎉🥳💃🥰

    While I'm very grateful for it, I can't say I'm delighted with the results. Yet. 😉

    I'm also very aware that access to HRT is in jeopardy for myself, many others and probably unobtainable now for some. This crime is far more alarming than me thinking my breasts are too small. 😠

    But we will all continue our . Going back in not an option. And fuck anyone who tries to erase us! 🏳️‍⚧️✊
