Arguing that criticism of Zionism is criticism of all Jewish people is like arguing that criticism of MAGA is criticism of all Americans.

Just like there are a large number of Americans who are MAGA, there are a large number of Jews who are Zionists but no, not all Americans are MAGA and not all Jews are Zionists (rule of thumb, if your argument starts with “All Jews are…”, it’s a fundamentally antisemitic one).

Furthermore, just like not all MAGA are Americans (hello, Nigel Farage, etc.), not all Zionists are Jews. In fact, many Zionists – like Christian Zionists – are deeply antisemitic and Zionism itself is mired in antisemitism*.

Anyone who conflates being a Zionist with being Jewish and criticism of Zionism with antisemitism is perpetuating an antisemitic trope that essentially posits that all Jewish people are pro settler colonialism, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and genocide.

As a software developer who took an elective in neural networks - when people call LLMs stochastic parrots, that's not criticism of their results.

It's literally a description of how they work.

The so-called training data is used to build a huge database of words and the probability of them fitting together.

Stochastic because the whole thing is statistics.
Parrot because the answer is just repeating the most probable word combinations from its training dataset.

Calling an LLM a stochastic parrot is lile calling a car a motorised vehicle with wheels. It doesn't say anything about cars being good or bad. It does, however, take away the magic. So if you feel a need to defend AI when you hear the term stochastic parrot, consider that you may have elevated them to a god-like status, and that's why you go on the defense when the magic is dispelled.

Trump has 251 days left until the . Last night he had the best chance of the year to address the nation with his State of the Union Address and present the reason people should vote for him. To improve gender equality, Denmark has completed an initiative to identify 100 historic women for whom statues will be made, to create a better balance between the genders of the statues in Denmark.

On the list is our historically important Queen Margrethe I, former Prime Minister Helle Thorning, Author Tove Ditlevsen, Author Karen Blixen, Film Producer Lise Nørgaard, and many, many others.

Is it okay to beg for money on Mastodon?

Every week I see accounts asking for money, often tagging me or others directly.

I support recognized aid organisations, but these direct requests make me concerned, because as a Mastodon user I have no way of verifying if the requests are legitimate, or some nefarious person is pretending to be a person in need.

So my question is, should Mastodon servers have a policy about begging, and if so, what should the policy be?

"The policy" implies one.

Also, if you assume that there will be as many different policies as there are servers, asking what the policy should be doesn't make sense.

I am not impressed by the European counter proposal peace plan:

A. It does not return occupied land to Ukraine, which means Putin is rewarded for attacking Ukraine.

B. Ukraine is kept outside NATO and forced to pay Trump for US security guarantees. Never place someone's security in the hands of a mob boss, as this will be taken advantage of.

Fortunately, I suspect this document is only designed to make Russia reject it, so we can get back to Trump being mad at Putin.

leeloo ,
@leeloo@chaosfem.tw avatar

@briankrebs
The Fedi client on your phone is no more or less decentralized than you browser. Decentralization refers the server side of the fediverse.

In theory the web is already decentralized. Yes, there is Facebook and Cloudflare, but running a web server on a home network is still possible. I run nginx on a raspberry pi in my bedroom.

The only caveat is https. The certificate authority model is still centralized, so you'll either have to ignore that detail or use plain http. But that goes for the fediverse as well, which in most (all?) cases does use https.

Remember that time Mozilla said it was going to stop working with the personal data removal service Onerep after I published a story showing Onerep's CEO was actually running several people search sites at the same time?

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2024/03/mozilla-drops-onerep-after-ceo-admits-to-running-people-search-networks/

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2024/03/ceo-of-data-privacy-company-onerep-com-founded-dozens-of-people-search-firms/

Yeah, that was in mid-March 2024. In February I wrote about how it had been almost a year since Mozilla said it was going to kick Onerep to the curb and stop offering it as part of their Mozilla Monitor Plus service.

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2025/02/nearly-a-year-later-mozilla-is-still-promoting-onerep/

Well today Mozilla announced that it is finally "winding down" its partnership with Onerep by winding down Monitor Plus.

"After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Monitor Plus, which offered data broker site scans and automated personal data removal."

"We will continue to offer our free Monitor, data breach service, which is integrated into Firefox’s credential manager, and we are focused on integrating more of our privacy and security experiences in Firefox, including our VPN, for free."

"We explored several options to keep Monitor Plus going, but our high standards for vendors, and the realities of the data broker ecosystem made it challenging to consistently deliver the level of value and reliability we expect for our users."

"Current subscribers will retain full access through the wind-down period."

I asked how long this wind-down period would extend, and they said it ends Dec. 17.

The Social Democrats were butchered in yesterday's local elections in Denmark.

The party was halved in several municipalities, and for the first time in more than 100 years, The Social Democrats lost Copenhagen, where The Greens (SF) will now reign.

After current prime minister Mette Frederiksen became party leader in 2015, she moved the party from a center-left to a center-right position, and turned the party anti-immigration. This angered socialist voters, who are moving to The Greens.

1/2

leeloo ,
@leeloo@chaosfem.tw avatar

@randahl
That's not how it looked from my vantage point.

DF was born a right wing racist party. Under CTD, they started mellowing out, creeping towards the center, becoming "stuerene". At the same time, V+K moved hard right, adopting the racist policies.

Voters left V+K, and with DF moving towards the center, that's where many of them went.

When Lars Løkke started talking about befriending the social democrats, voters returned, DF lost everything they had won, CTD was kicked out but so was Lars Løkke.

Now the voters are realising that Mette F. is moving hard right like V+K a few years ago, and the social democrats are losing votes just like they did.

It seems to me that Danes are not as racist as our reputation, but we are slow to react when our politicians switch sides but take the party name with them.

We call them "inflated clowns".
