These GOP politicians have to stop describing largely peaceful urban centers like Portland and Chicago as war zones. The unpeaceful parts are where the Feds have shown up to spread fear and abuse.

@nixCraft first week on the job as an intern at a navy research lab. lead researcher went to a conference leaving me on my own to "learn the system." i filled up the root drive to 110% then zero out the password file. i booted from 1/4" tape provided by the vendor then did a full restore, from tape, onto the full filesystem, from earlier in the week when the disk was not full. the system only had one tape drive so i had to sit there and swap out the tapes regularly. but it all worked. that was back when the man pages were all printed out in enough binders that'd it'd take an entire book shelf and, as noted, your OS came on a tape.

With my little cybersecurity background, I strongly urge using complex, unique passwords like this one for each of your accounts. A password manager (apple has one too) can safely store them for you. This significantly improves and boosts your online security. Don’t forget to enable 2FA for your account too. I beg everyone to follow such a simple advice. Stay safe

two hosts had concurrent rtos on it,
one ran mips risc/os,
nextstep on another,
irix on one other.
a pc that occasionally ran some flavor of windows, slackware, or whatever flavor of linux was fresh at the time.
a couple of ncd xterms to complete the set.

Hold up! Is that a SunOS?! This bad boy's been working alone for 25 years running some critical app?! Those ancient 36GB SCSI drives are practically museum artifacts! And with only 4GB of RAM? My Android phone has more memory! 😂 This thing makes a Raspberry Pi look like a supercomputer. They sure don't build 'em like they used to...I must admit, Sun Microsystems had some serious engineering and reliability back in the day. I guess it will still work for another decade or so ☺️

    @molly0xfff i college i had a mac se (similar to to what's under stuart's right hand) that i painted gloss black and glued a glow-in-the-dark snake across the top of the bezel. there were a handful of glitter hearts on it too. i think it ran cooler that way. a stanford cs professor saw it and said i had no respect for technology. still true.
