Games you've given honest tries for and just don't find fun

I've just uninstalled and removed Balatro after yet a near, very close 8/8 ante finish. I have been failing and failing, I've only ever seen and gotten to 8/8 ante twice, this being the second time. Every other run has been just insulting me to where no strategy has ever worked, I feel like a lot of it is RNG and pre-determined ...

You should be close to freedom. The intro to that game drags a bit, for sure. If you stick with it, one thing I'll recommend is - take your time. The story tends to compartmentalize, kind of like the intro, so you can be better off ignoring it in favor of just faffing about (which is the best part of the game, imo).

ech ,

The beginning of that game is quite slow, but it does pick up, and it has a lot more to offer than I thought when I first picked it up. It can also feel a bit inscrutable as there's little to no direction offered to the player. Personally, I make liberal use of the wiki to counteract that. I'm betting there's spoiler-sensitive guides out there, too.

ech ,

2 is a fairly linear action game with a few branching paths. 3 is a much bigger, RPG style game if that's what your looking for out of it. It's still "Geralt", but there's more liberty to play the game and character how you'd like.

18% are, as per the article.

ech ,

Agreed.

There's a clip of a prolific voice actor (I wanna say Dan Castellaneta, or maybe Rob Paulsen) who says bad impressions make for the best character voices, because it gives the voice more character and familiarity without making people just think of the target of the impression.

ech ,

Oh, I think you might be right. It was from a video about voice acting and all the faces kind of blur together in my mind, hah.

ech ,

I mean, his vote wasn't gonna change shit, but it sure says something when he's the singular Dem breaking ranks. What a fucking tool.

ech ,

It's not "trying" to do anything.

ech ,
ech ,

Super glad to have gotten off that shit-train last year. Still dealing with the Linux learning curve, but never going back.

ech ,

Indie/arthouse is and always has been the place to look for innovation and daring ideas, because low budget is the only realistic way to make those projects work, because most of the ideas are too bizarre to draw in your average viewer. People looking to the big studios to gamble millions on ideas that probably won't land are just kidding themselves. Stop demanding something that will never happen and go support the indie scene that exists right now.

Forgetting your 4,4-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrazolidin-3-one at home in your rush out the door. Rookie mistake.

In a similar vein to Warehouse 13, Eureka is also a very fun SyFy channel show.

ech ,

The best two shows for fans of criminally short series.

ech ,

Oh yeah! I'd actually forgotten that.

ech ,

The actual images are also generated slop.

ech ,

Ah, the "gay panic" defense. A shitbag classic.

ech ,

Spot on. They're talking about killing thousands and they sound like frat bros trying to talk themselves into getting a tattoo. Wtf...

ech ,
ech ,

Jeez, they're certainly covering their bases with all the horror movies released since the last one.

ech ,

So now it's just ads on these comics perennially. Great.

ech ,

The only way to consider cis a slur is if one considers trans a slur, which is immediately telling of what kind of person is being interacted with.

$30 for 3 months "on us"

That's not what "on us" means, you fucks.

ech ,

And instead of just selling or gifting you can put the Sweet Gem Berry into the Seedmaker to get two rare seeds.

Worth noting there's a small chance (~2% and 0.5% according to the wiki) to get mixed seeds or ancient seeds instead of the input plant.

ech ,

They also seem to believe wi-fi "powers everything"? What a loon.

ech ,

This is Black Mirror, not Idiocracy. If you can only relate to reality through fiction, at least use the appropriate one.

Dude blocked every bullet until it was safe for the billionaire to walk in. Let him have a little fun.

ech ,

It was so refreshing to see Superman give a shit again in the new movie. The Edgy Era was entirely the wrong tone for the character.

ech ,

Definitely not the same.

ech ,

Like, I'm sure a lot of it ends up just feeling like most jobs, but fuck...isn't the whole point that they have unique insight into these things? Do they think God is "speaking through the chatbots" or something?

ech , (edited )

It was a pretty hard one, but all the clues work.

ech ,

There's a real possibility of an AI becoming radically self-improving, then super-intelligent

There's zero possibility of that happening anytime soon. As for if a chatbot given control of missile "defense" would inadvertantly start WW3? That fully depends on the people implementing it and the safeguards put in place. Though the very act of doing any of that would demonstrate an inability to set up a suitably secure system.

In short, a nuclear apocalypse triggered by the likes of chatgpt wouldn't be due to an "AI" singularity. It would be caused by typical human incompetence.

This is one of those things that, while it's awful, it's also a lucky break since they are clearly incapable of providing acceptable medical service.

    ech ,

A huge piece of shit in almost every respect, but the character had his moments of poignancy.

    ech ,

What a terrible fucking headline. Even if they kept a record of every single interaction on hand for the chatbot to reference (which is preposterous), the notion that it could reiterate it verbatim to a degree that is sufficient to hold up as evidence of anything is ludicrous. It's also wildly inaccurate to the actual story. Bad job all around.

    ech ,

    Inb4 he's just another right-wing ragebaiter.

    ech ,

It really is great. I got into New Who late, but I'm really glad I started at the beginning (relatively speaking). That first episode does a fantastic job establishing everything you need to know and what to expect, even in The Doctor's very first lines - "Nice to meet you, Rose. Now run for your life!" I was hooked from the start.

I understand Eccleston had a rough time with shooting and had every reason to step away, but I really would have loved even one more season with him.

Remarkably similar to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALKTM7OzdMQ

I wonder if one inspired the other.

Todd Howard has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 runs on an upgraded version of the Creation Engine, and that it'll be a return to Bethesda's "classic style".

    ech ,

Imo, the engine is what held back Starfield the most. I was hoping they were taking this time to come up with a new, modernised engine instead of just revamping the old one again. Maybe it'll be worthwhile, but I'm sceptical.

    ech ,

Where did I say anything about loading screens? Design choices are predicated on what the engine can handle, and they were working with a 12 year old engine at that point, leading to all the issues you pointed out. With a new engine, they (ideally) would be able to handle a more diverse and interesting setting, but they thought Skyrim: In Space would be good enough.

    ech ,

The thing with Starfield is that it was much bigger than Skyrim, since it encompasses multiple star systems. And, from my point of view, it felt like they just stretched out the "budget" allowed by the engine, which consequently makes it feel much emptier by comparison. It's certainly not the only issue with the game, though. The whole things was a pretty big whiff for a studio like Bethesda.

While the show might be bad, using "cringe" in a professional media review article is just embarrassing. The word even in casual use is just bad and says more about the speaker than what they're speaking about. In a "professional" critique, the word provides absolutely zero information other than the to the quality of the article itself.

*Just watched the first two episodes - it's Scrubs, but updated. Nothing wrong with it unless you don't like Scrubs in the first place.

    ech ,

People that use "cringe" unironically are typically referring to others that are simply not embarrassed to be open or outgoing. I could see that being the case about this show.
