I just don't get the YouTube algorithm. My view count on the last five videos are all over the place:

41,000 views
1,500 views
37,000 views
1,500 views
2,500 views

I find this weird because some of the videos are extremely similar in quality, presentation, length, etc., yet they yield wildly different view counts.

So I looked up @anderspuck
and he has experienced similar inconsistencies.

I really wish that I could publish through a medium that was not such a roll of the dice every time.

@randahl I find that the fluctuations are very much tied to the topic. I knew before publishing that a video about the landmine treaty would get relatively few views. But I have decided that I don't want to chase the algorithm, so I will cover the topics I think are important.

Are women less interested in politics than men?

The reason I am asking is, whenever I get the audience statistics for one my videos, it always saddens me to see that my audience only has 20 percent women.

So I wonder if I am doing something wrong with my content, if women prefer female hosts, or if women just watch less political content.

If anyone has some input, I am all ears, because I really want my show to be for everyone.

And obviously, input from women would be highly appreciated.

@randahl @superflippy The shirt is not a bit issue but if you don't watch my fancy animations, I will be disappointed. 😂

Has Mastodon ever explained why it allows Threads posts to be seen on Mastodon, when Threads does not allow Mastodon posts to be seen on Threads?

This effectively means we have Threads posts showing up in our feed which we can reply to, but the replies are not visible to the original poster on Threads.

To me, that seems to be a confusing user experience — one that punishes users for using Mastodon.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@Gargron @randahl I think it’s difficult for us Europeans to understand what Threads users can and cannot see since fediverse sharing is not available to us.

From Stanovaya: "Russia has not been a priority and is now regarded as a natural disaster. [...] there will be no strategic agreements. All of Putin's signals that the war could be stopped tomorrow if Ukraine accepts his ultimatum are ignored in the West." https://twitter.com/Stanovaya/status/1816772238441324925?s=19

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@kevinrothrock @reedmideke The problem with this idea of a “revised security architecture” is that it has no basis in reality. Russia has nothing aside from nuclear weapons to justify their claim of a privileged position over other European countries, and if needed we can all build nuclear weapons.
I don't see how any amount of listening to Putin’s security concerns could make the Europeans accept that these concerns are legitimate.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@kevinrothrock @reedmideke Not sure what you mean. I did not write that it is a desirable solution?

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@kevinrothrock @reedmideke I think that will be the result if U.S. withdraws. That is why Trump’s “peace plan” is so misguided.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@kevinrothrock @Szipek @reedmideke How much time do you need to tell? 30 months into the war and Russia still hasn't been able to take Donetsk Oblast. Clearly it's only nuclear weapons that give the impression that they would have the military power to dominate over half of Europe.

@kevinrothrock @Szipek @reedmideke You mean rolling NATO back to the 1997 borders?

@kevinrothrock @Szipek @reedmideke Well, let them take Chassiv Yar first before we panic.

@kevinrothrock Or mistaken assumption that in the end Russia would want to join the West. It seems to me that's what he is saying.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@kevinrothrock I think there was a failure of understanding too. People like Zyuganov were seen as relics of the past, and therefore one could make fun of his assertions.

@kallekn @ibenb @kevinrothrock @notsoloud It’s important in this discussion to include the nuance that Sputnik and RT are not “Russian media” intended for a Russian audience. They are information weapons designed against us. If you want to understand the Russian world view, you will get a lot more from looking at sites like TASS and RIA, which are for the Russian population and haven’t been blocked by EU.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@ibenb @kallekn @kevinrothrock @notsoloud It is useful for those who understand what they are looking at, so it’s a dilemma. A large part of the population was unable to do that and shared their links in good faith.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@ibenb @kallekn @kevinrothrock @notsoloud I am more in the camp that we should not permit the adversary‘s information weapons to operate in our societies. The Soviet Union was also not allowed to publish newspapers or operate TV stations in the West.

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@ibenb @kallekn @kevinrothrock @notsoloud Well, lots of Russian publications are published in the West today. So let me rephrase, I think it's important to be aware that the adversaries have information weapons designed to undermine our society, and I don't think they have an unconditional right to access.
(Russia and China would never allow us to publish something similar to their citizens.)

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@ibenb @kallekn @kevinrothrock @notsoloud We might be talking about different things. My point was to comment on the EU decision about the websites of RT and Sputnik. I think it would be silly to block TASS, and I also think that social media profiles are another question than their websites (which can't be labeled).

anderspuck ,
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social avatar

@kevinrothrock @richlv @ibenb @kallekn @notsoloud It is not "censorship" to deal with misinformation.

OpenAI's Mira Murati: "some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place" And you stole everything from creative people who provided free texts, images, forum answers, etc. To date, your company has refused to acknowledge any credit. Rich people truly live in their bubble and have zero sympathy for fellow human or their livelihood.

@nixCraft It changes the meaning a bit if you quote the whole sentence: "Some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place if the content that comes out of it is not very high quality".
