Simple != few lines of code, nothing incompatible about those two statements

UndercoverUlrikHD ,
@UndercoverUlrikHD@programming.dev avatar

« The problem with grabbing small snippets of code is a lot of context is lost.» does not mean that a lot of additional code is required to understand the context, additionally, simple code may require you to read a bit of code to understand it.

Simplicity does not mean small scale, nor that it must be understood at a glance.

Rich Hickey got a great presentation where he discuss simplicity vs complexity. It's worth a watch if you want to better understand the concepts.

Dosage depends on the size of the person, there is no flat number. For people who lift with the intention of gaining muscle size, there's is a positive trend of additional hypertrophy that starts to flatten out at around 1,6g/kg.

Damn, we might even make it past the group stages of the World Cup. Haaland averaging 2 goals per game in the qualifiers is crazy.

UndercoverUlrikHD ,
@UndercoverUlrikHD@programming.dev avatar

We were sleeping in the first half, but clinical in the second half. Haaland playing is also an automatic goal or two. Ødegaard is still out, so being able to beat Italy without him is a reassuring sign.

A product sold at a loss/very attractive price to attract customers. The idea is that they customers will come due to the cheap price of a desirable product and buy additional other stuff at the store, which should hopefully make up for the loss.

E.g. a restaurant advertise cheap burgers to attract customers, and then make the profit on alcoholic beverages that customers buy alongside the cheap burger.

From the second sentence on the page:

It is different from loss leader marketing and product sample marketing, which do not depend on complementary products or services.

So the Razor and blades model would probably be the more accurate term for what people thought the new steam hardwate would be, yeah.

Though steam won't lock you to their services.

@roserose56@lemmy.zip avatar roserose56 Got a bit delayed, but added a way to add games based on their game id instead of having the bot search the EPSN fixture list (games from Greece doesn't show up there).

Just search for the espn page of the fixture and copy the game id that you see in the url.
E.g. https://www.espn.com/soccer/match/_/gameId/752344/aris-aek-athens -> 752344

Games added via game id isn't restricted by the usual "only request games 7 days in advance" rule.

Assume you're saving X amount of money each month for your retirement.

Your options for storing that money is either:

  1. In cash which will "lessen" in value as time goes by due to inflation
  2. In a savings account with middling interest rate
  3. Or you could invest in the stock market which will typically offer better return.

Assuming you go for option 3, would you choose to invest in a company with zero growth meaning your retirement fund won't grow, or would you choose a company that is constantly growing?

Nobody would choose to invest in a company with zero growth or which doesn't return money back in the form of dividends.

You're objectively better off investing in companies that grow since those are the companies that will grow your investment.

If you trained push on Monday and Thursday, it wouldn't align with your plan of PPL, rest/cardio. Did you skip the rest day?

Regardless, once the freebie gains are over, linear progression doesn't happen on a weekly basis, and recovery is complicated. There could be plenty of different non-quantifiable reasons as for why you didn't perform as well as last push session.

Just consider it noise/natural fluctuation. Zoom out and look at your trend line over a few weeks instead. Bad days at the gym are unavoidable, I wouldn't worry unless you're trending downwards in performance.

You can't just replace coal and oil by nuclear power. it takes decades to build a new plant and is very expensive.

That's been said for over a decade at this point. We could have had plenty of nuclear power plants and maintained/developed expertise in the area if clean energy was a goal that was taken seriously by Europe. Both solar and wind are innately inefficient in terms of W/m^2, and wind has the additional problem of noise pollution and environmental impact.

I'll migrate the bot over to the raspberry pi server today, should avoid most hiccups after that.

Influencers/streamers show people the actual game. Youtubers/twitch streamers that review games would still fall into the "influencer" category.

Traditional game review media like IGN have been a joke for ages, so most people don't seem to trust them.

Since it already takes at least 4 hours a day to look like that without steroids.

No that's not true. You could train 3 times a week with 1 hour workouts and get a similar result as long as you're consistent. 4 hours at the gym is too much time unless you take excessive rest periods and/or uses it as a social arena.

It's actually pretty funny to see a real power lifter next to a youtube-popular muscle builder, 1/4 the size, but can lift 4x as much.

The strongest powerlifters are huge, and specify in only 3 movements. Take a powerlifter out of those 3 specific movements and bodybuilders doesn't look all that bad.

Steroids just make muscles that get in the way of utility. Rather than properly useful muscles.

Strongmen are even bigger than bodybuilders and there's no loss in "functional strength"/utility.

Not a single part of you comment is accurate, are you into fitness/strength sports?

First paragraphs in the article

Writing a package manager is not one of the most common programming tasks. After all, there are many out-of-the-box ones available. Yet, somehow I've found myself in exactly this situation.

How so?

I'm a big fan of SQLite and its extensions. Given the large number of such extensions in the wild, I wanted a structured approach to managing them. Which usually involves, well, a package manager. Except there is none for SQLite. So I decided to build one!
