I've noticed developers solved that problem by simply not letting NPCs go through doors until you do. It's funny to watch. After you rescue the people in the church in Fallout4 there's a mad scramble for the door that takes ages to unfold rather than cause a crash.

Sometimes I feel so old. I know how to navigate a video game door without crashing the software. That's some serious GenX shit, and the knowledge dies with my generation.

What is something that was a normal thing people said to you when you were younger, that now is super weird or horrifying?

When I was young, I was told by lots of people that "Women played at sex to get love, and that men played at love to get sex." And this was obviously a warning to not having premarital sex, but Jesus Christ, y'all aren't even gonna try to hold men accountable or have expectations of them, just put some kind of faux purity on the shoulders of an actual child. At the time, it just seemed normal, but now it's horrifying.

Beaming a good and kind and positive International Men's Day to all. I've spoken about this before but there is so much untapped potential in men - so much wasted due to fear and toxicity. Trumps and Putins weren't born that way - it took a lifetime of poor parenting, fear and unkindness, all being constantly negatively reinforced. No young man is a monster. But they do need positive role models, love, guidance and support. And without us all making an active decision to do this it creates a vacuum filled by opportunists or lazy media stereotypes. We ask ourselves 'what are we meant to be' and draw from what is available. Which is invariably not the sort of man who focuses on community, compassion and empathy. We're all superhero rockstar antiheroes. Swashbuckling rogues. Given the choice between Luke and Han we are all Han. Whilst great, Han is a cool uncle. You don't want Han raising a new generation of young men. Look at what happened to Kylo. Although I'm not sure Luke is a good example either. They're fictional anyway why are we even talking about this? I've lost my point.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Small actions have big results. Show kindness. Correct lazy unkindness. Normalise saying 'that's not ok' or 'I don't agree with that', and 'well done' or 'that was great' or 'you've got this'. People will respect you more for having the mettle to stand up for yourself and others in small ways. And then you can lead them all... to victory!

I love you. You're great. Love yourself too (not like that) and remember how important it was to receive guidance from male role models in your life. You are that person now. Wield it wisely and we all win. X

I agree that neither Luke nor Han are good role models. They both solve problems with violence. Yeah, sometimes you need to go there but it's always better to solve problems without violence. Violence just creates the next generation of problems. It's the least-desirable solution. If you end up having to go to war to kill the nazis and 80 million people die, you fucked up in the first place.

Luke and Han are still way better than the characters that seem to be today's role models, like Tony Soprano and Walter White.

    There are no legitimate use cases for crypto. It's for crime. Saying 5% of crypto advocates ruin it is the same as saying 5% of gangsters ruin organized crime for the rest of us.

    Effective altruism is just some bullshit greedy people tell themselves to hoard the wealth of the world. "I need to get rich because I know so much better than The Poors what to do with money to help those sad Poors than they do themselves." It's bullshit. A fair analogy here is DOGE. Doge claimed to be fighting fraud and waste, then perpetrated a bunch of fraud and waste. Doge existed to destroy USAid because USAid helped eliminate Apartheid in South Africa. 5% of people supporting Doge didn't ruin it. It existed to do shitty things. Effective altruism is just gaslighting about doing similar sorts of shitty things. It's well proven that the best way to help poor people with money is to give them the fucking money. Anything else is some horseshit people came up with to abuse the weak.

    If migrants are to fully contribute to their host economies, their (foreign) qualifications need to be recognised, so they can fully deploy the skills they have.

    But, this is not alway the case, locking too many migrants into low(er) paying careers than their experience & qualifications would imply.

    Some break out by become entrepreneurs (of various sorts), others only see better jobs when their children get them.

    Whatever the personal issues its an economic waste.

    It seems one effect of the periods of lockdown at the start of the decade has been a pivot away from eating out & the expansion of demand for high(er) quality meals for home consumption;

    this has, of course, been part of the range of problems confronted by the hospitality sector, and capitalised on by both home delivery groups & supermarkets.

    Like online shopping, eating at home is removing us gradually from more collective experiences... and making us more asocial?

    I've flown across a lot of national borders, and a lot of time it wasn't cloudy and I could see the ground.

    Aside from the occasional natural feature, like a river, I never saw anything to demarcate one country from the next.

    It’s so freaking annoying how and their algorithm constantly try to serve clickbait and bullshit videos..

    I try to keep my feed limited to science, space and left politics but somehow they always try to throw in videos that are so out of place and clearly clickbait bullshit

    If videos have dramatic titles or thumbnails that are just over the top I’ll skip them by default

    No wonder so many people believe the most stupid shit these days with all these constant funnels everywhere
