Differential grasshopper giving out free hugs along Clear Creek Trail yesterday.

Headed down to the Iowa River this morning to see if I can catch a sunrise. Wish me luck 🤞👍.

Closeup photograph of a differential grasshopper (ID app suggests Melanoplus differentialis) clinging to the stem and leaf of a green plant. The grasshopper is facing left and has its lower legs wrapped around the stem while its upper legs are wrapped around the base of a large leaf as well as the stem. Differentiated grasshoppers have a long segmented abdomen, a small plate-covered thorax, a bulbous head with large compound eyes and mandibles, two segmented antennae, and six segmented legs with long powerful back legs for jumping.

Not much in the way of color but it was a lovely walk, the sky/clouds were still beautiful, and it was a gorgeous morning on the river. Can't ask for much better 👍

1st planted lacy phacelia 3 yrs ago. Noticed lots of small (¼ in) sweat bees that climbed the stamens to gather pollen. Not often you see a metallic green bee covered in purple pollen so I plant phacelia every yr to try to (re)capture it.

Extreme closeup of a small sweat bee (ID apps suggest a white-footed sweat bee) climbing a vertical stamen of a lacy phacelia flower with out of focus stamens and a gray wall in the background. This bee's back legs and pollen baskets are covered in purple pollen collected from the dark purple anthers that top each pale purple stamen. This species has similar features to honeybees with a dull metallic green abdomen, thorax, and head covered in fine gold hairs, two segmented antennae, three simple eyes on the forehead, two large compound eyes on either side of the head, six legs, and transparent amber wings with dark veining.

That's an awesome name! It's considered the same in the US. I think it's nature in the US southwest and Mexico but highly recommended for pollinators. I haven't caught a photo yet but the big bumble bees visit it a lot too👍

Violet pals having a a bit of a row.

Orange Tip butterfly on spring blossom

The orange-tip butterfly (Anthocharis cardamines) is a delightful sign of spring. The males are easily recognized by their white wings with bright orange tips, which give the species its name

Gonna be offline for a few weeks friends. Hit by an unexpected issue that saw me hospitalised last week. Gonna take a few weeks too recover.

In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to all your nature/bird photography/art etc. To help keep me close to what I love.
