Black-and-white cartoon showing people walking outside on a gloomy December day. They are looking very depressed, with bent backs and looking down. On each of the pedestrians’ backs sits a half-translucent black creature, weighing them down while drinking from their heads with a straw. A depressed person on a park bench (also with a creature sucking at his brain) is reading a newspaper with the headlines: ‘Mental health crisis, ‘Climate crisis’, ‘War imminent’, ‘Housing shortage’ and ‘Poor? It’s your own fault!’
I've made the mistake of signing up to several news media accounts, and many folks I follow post things with good intent but it still increases my anxiety and sympathetic outrage.
As per the meme, I'm choosing sanity button over being socially informed. I'll be muting a lot of accounts and filtering words for the next several weeks so my heart and hope aren't eviscerated in the long term.
Time to lean into light and beauty and kindness for a while.
