i'm making a game using mode 13h, 320x200 8bpp. i'm using the line doubling feature of the VGA card to make it 320x100 then manually doubling each pixel horizontally for 160x100

i realized i could use a palette with 3 bits red/green and 2 blue, and then do "subpixel" dither to generate the in between colors. i made a converter to test if that would look good, and it does

here's a thread of images showing what that looks like

What age were you when you first learned to code and wrote your first program?

@nixCraft when I was around 12 years and got my first own PC, a , my cousin wrote together with me this first little program, after I asked him: "Andreas... was ist eigentlich dieses ?" ("Andreas... what is this 'QBASIC'?")

It really made an impression on me and I thank him from the bottom of my heart! ❤️

🌳🏰💀 @rainbowcemetery 's Anzu Castle Gracula

Cool game I stumbled on today! Haven't gotten very far yet (it's hard!), but I love the Castlevania 2ish backgrounds, the great spritework, and the catchy soundtrack! Interested to take a look at the QBASIC source code, too!

It's not meant to be a browser game but out of... curiosity :D

How this works:

  1. BASIC game code (from 2000)
  2. BASIC interpreter (C#)
  3. Runtime (QBasic mostly)
  4. Godot Engine 3.x (C#)
  5. Browser (WASM, WebGL)
  6. OS
