So much paremovedo. It's very popular here. Sometimes families take their kids to paremovedo. If not that, then many places have "amusement areas" - basically a ton of gambly arcade type games like ufo catcher or coin tossers, kids will play these a lot. Typical arcade games will also be present, especially rythm games (which i kinda enjoy too tbh). Karaoke is another thing I like a lot and it's actually really popular - its not like America where you go to a bar and sing in front of tons of people, instead you rent a room for some amount of time with friends and do it that way. You can rent a room all night if you want and there's drink and food services. I've known some friends rent a karaoke room for the night if hotel rooms are unavailable as a place to sleep. Hiking is also really popular for good reason, east to walk places and lots of nature to see. Old people fucking love hiking.

And then of course, there's drinking. So much drinking. Every weekend I go out for a walk and there's 5 new puke spots that no one cleans up lmao.

E: also forgot train photography/watching - lots of train otakus and families taking their kids to watch/ride the trains. Old people will do most of these things (with their grandchildren especially) except maybe karaoke, I just thought it was interesting to mention.

I agree more and more with what Rodiric Day said about brainwashing - I don't think these people are brainwashed or being fooled, they're just making excuses, reaching for justifications given by propaganda because they want to, NEED to believe it. It's a survival mechanism, something materially beneficial to say and believe because it's too scary to actually resist, it's too unsafe, they'll lose all this comfort they have, even given what's happening. These are just moments to get through without being noticed to pick up where they left off with weekly brunch and happy hour trivia nights. That obviously lacks long term thinking when it comes to the question of survival, but that has always been the case when it comes to buying into imperialist propaganda.

Japanese having a higher average rating than Chinese food is crazy, especially since their only exposure to Japanese food is likely sushi. Ramen doesn't count cause not even Japanese people think ramen is Japanese (cause it came from China).

I hate that I got really into MtG at one of it's lowest points. The EoE set was really cool, but wtf is with all the marvel sets they're shoving into the game? And more than half the sets this year will be universes beyond sets, 2 of them being IPs they've already covered before. I thought TNMT was just going to be a secret lair thing that I could completely ignore, but apparently not. If they add more spacecraft with the station mechanic with star trek, I guess I could stomach that, but goddammit.

Another big issue, which is a bit more insidious, is drive for cost reduction. Language learning apps and AI aren't great for gaining fluency, but it is cheaper, which drives down the price for language teachers and assistants. This drives down the price for "native" English teachers, which wouldn't be so bad on its own, but that cost reduction effect is amplified for non-native English speakers - Japan takes a lot of English speakers from the Phillipines, for example, and pays them damn near NOTHING.

Speaking of gross imperialist hiring practices in Japan, I know of a few manufacturing companies which hire immigrant labor abroad. The pay is bad enough, but since this immigrant labor is usually contracted through a scouting company, a percentage of all their paychecks is going to these leeches. Not only that, but these same companies I'm aware of only hire Japanese descendants in poor countries, namely Brazil. Additionally, if these descendants are more than 3rd or 4th gen descendants, they will not be hired.

Over 20 hours into Umineko, finished ep 1 and I'm done with it, can't keep going with this for another 50 hours for just these 4 episodes and then there 5 through 9 after that and then there's the answers arc, just no. I spoiled the ending for myself and I'm glad I did, it is not worth that kind of time investment and I feel angry for giving 20 hours worth of a chance now.

What am I missing about this visual novel that everyone liked?

Intrigue surrounding the inheritance and the siblings'+spouses trying to outmaneuver one another was kinda interesting. But I just don't feel any attachment to any of these characters except for Maria and the servants I suppose.

I was thinking the game would be massively improved if Battler was removed, but now that George, who is 23, proposed to a 16 year old maid (who is now dead with the ring still on her finger), I'm just getting fucking tired of anything related to sex or romance in this fucking game. The kids are easily the worst part, everytime it's their turn on screen, I groan. The adults being shitty people is fine, they make it interesting at least, they're supposed to be shitty. And George isn't even a kid, he's a God damn adult who stands pretty high up on the hierarchy compared to who he's proposing to - this was the same servant that was going to let Battler fucking grope her until Jessica stopped him because she believed she didn't have a choice. And this minor with no power within the family is "being given the choice" to accept George's proposal? She's an orphan whos been a maid since she was like 6 fuckin years old, what the hell? I'm not getting the vibe that the game condemns all of this either.

POWER. DYNAMICS.

To be honest, the deaths did not make much of an impact on me. Thinking more on Shannon's death, it's pretty fucking sad (shoulda been George). But everyone else? Ehh, don't care. Also, been expecting it for a while. It is really sad in a way that absolutely no one seems to care that Gohdan died, they seem to care more that breakfast wasn't made before he went.

With these deaths, however, I'm not sure where the story goes. All that intrigue and maneuvering from before is blown out of the water now. The chief scheme guy is gone. Most unfortunately, there's a larger kid to adult ratio now, so I imagine they're all gonna get more screen time agony-wholesome

Idk so far it's good slop, but I'm split on whether to call it a good story or not. I mostly find myself on a roller coaster ride of increasing tension and intrigue cut off by steep drops into sexual harassment and annoying dialogue.
