Anybody here who have a good recommendation for something as simple as Discord with audio lobbies? I see all these recommendations for alternative platforms and software which mostly focus on the community/forum aspect of Discord, and not the things Discord was meant to be used for: talking with your buddies while gaming.
I used Mumble before Discord was a thing, but the self-hosting a server thing got a bit old, and required me to keep my PC on at all times in case my buddies wanted to play games and chat when I wasn't available.
Yeah? I've heard about that since I was young, and it doesn't seem like it's going to enshittify for some reason. But I thought it was made by a company. Oh well, might give it a go. Thank you.
What is that title? "Man who shot British woman"?? Isn't it a lot more interesting to say "Man who shot his own daughter"? Their relationship seems far more interesting and relevant to the situation than her country of origin, wtf is this journalism? Or am I missing something?

I don't think it's ever been so seemingly important to name-drop what language a piece of software is written in than as in the post-Rust era.
It's like "Rust" is some kind of stamp of approval. It's certainly not a bad thing/sign, but it's just a pattern I've noticed. Everything written in Rust is advertised as such, as opposed to other software where it doesn't seem as prevalently prominent.
I can't lie if I didn't say I'm also drawn to software written in Rust, as it automatically has an aura of being fast and "memory safe". But of course, Rust software is not immune to bugs. 😅
This is some bullshit that's going to wreak havoc on the already strained energy price crisis we have in Sweden. People in the north are paying upward of almost two thousand dollars a month for electricity during the winter months. It's insane to now see Sweden as some sort of energy haven. Downright irresponsible.
I'm asking for your opinion, though. Your understanding of what's written.
If you just go around saying "what everyone is saying this authority is saying is false, and what I'm "supposing" is correct", you should back it up with why. With on what you're basing your supposition. Otherwise you're just not credible.

Regarding strictly the last part of the video: to be fair, there wouldn't be so many drivers on the first reopening I imagine, since people have known for 5 years that you can't drive through it...
just because it was shown at the last in the show...
Later people played it and it wasn't that good either
That sounds a bit conflicting... People remember their first impressions. Probably even apply for refunds and don't intend to try again. The rest of us weren't really interested to begin with, I guess.
It's because I wanted full control over my purchases, how much money went to what things. Partly because I need to be aware of how much money I should take from our shared budget account, and also to keep a close eye on the actual budget to see if the monthly budget needs adjusting.
My regular bank debit card didn't have this functionality at the time (not sure if it does now, but probably 🤷♂️).
So it's pretty much strictly a control thing.
I don't think I'm really Klarna's target audience. They want customers who have poor money management. 😅
Where I live there's a bit of interest when you postpone your payments further than 30 days. Other than that, no interest. Just like a regular credit card.
I don't think I'm their intended customer demographic. 😅 I use it to keep a tight check on all my purchases. Recently started doing the monthly invoice thing as well, so neat and tidy. One payment every month, then rearrange money in our bank accounts as needed based on shared economy with the wife. Bish bash bosh.
So it installs a whole new filesystem? Interesting. That feels like it sets limitations on how well you can take advantage of the full space of your hard drive.
And this action can only be performed by the package manager running under some magical God user that sits above root? Or some other mechanism?
But what can we expect of this user were recommending a system for? Are they supposed to install it themselves or nah?
I didn't know anything about how to install Arch when I decided to give it a shot. I just read instructions and typed what it told me to type. I knew nothing about what I was typing.
Same as when I installed Ubuntu like 20 years ago as a teenager. I filled in my name and clicked the Next button a few times, and entered what I think the partitions should look like. Then waited to watch the progress bar fill up.
These are steps you have to take to install Windows as well... Unless of course you're not installing it yourself, but that can be the case for Linux, too.
So root still has write access to the system then, gotcha. Then it's not really immutable per se, the package manager just has a different way of writing to the filesystem that simulates immutability, I guess?
Only certain programs do this though. On Linux, Libre Office does indeed work like on other platforms, but these types of applications are rare on Windows and Linux, IME. Other applications close when the last document closes, like PDF reader, image viewer, video player, etc. Just because a few act like on Mac because it makes sense for their use case doesn't mean it's the common paradigm.
It's not rare in that sense, you've misunderstood. I'm saying that there are rare instances of programs where a program is left running when all its windows and/or documents are closed. Not that Word is a rarely-used piece of software. 👍
Maybe we use different software in our daily use cases but I don't think I use a single program that has a concept of "documents" or "tabs" or similar, that doesn't quit the process when the last window or document has been closed. Also programs that are like one instance of the program per document is also common among the software I use.
🤷♂️ I can't name a single one I use that has the process open after the last window is gone. I don't use word processing stuff etc.
Some programs I've set specifically to minimize to the tray after closing their single-instance window, so that they won't exit, e.g. Discord, Steam, Spotify. Stuff like that. But they also don't use a documents paradigm at all so I don't know if they count.
