So the most challenging thing about implementing custom filters is making them easy to use for users, this is just too complicated.

I need to speak with our design team and work on a simple mode, we can keep this for an advanced mode.

sadly the way it checks for permission is using Mastodon's discoverable "https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/profile/#discoverable which both @phanpy and @elk have turned off so I can't add them...

So in case you aren't aware, the reason why the Import from Instagram feature in @pixelfed is so tricky is for two main reasons:

  1. You don't actually upload the archive, it's unzipped and parsed client side, so you only upload the photos/videos and captions that you select

  2. Instagram changes the json structure every few months, just to fuck with us

But just to take a step back, when you import, your DMs and other private data is never uploaded

@dansup maybe an LLM could help to write migration code to a usable format faster than doing it by hand -> like automate the process and have a test suite to make sure it worked
