I've seen bee-eaters "tossing" their prey before - but I've never managed to capture it in mid-flight! This is the same sequence as my previous photo, but now the bird quickly flicks the grass hopper into the air, catches it headfirst and swallowed it - all whilst still flying!

A young bee-eater, in flight - with a grasshopper just suspended in it's open beak - the grasshopper is now "head first" - the correct orientation to swallow!

I have mixed feelings about lions. Yes they can be very cool and sometimes fascinating to watch.....but they also spend a LOT of time just snoozing and every hour spent tracking or watching a sleeping lion is a small brown bird missed 😜 (but other safari goers LOVE them and all the trackers love to find them)

Aaaaannnd CHOMP! Baby frogmouth up to no good.

A brown goshawk, absolutely 100% NOT up to any trouble at all, just minding it's own business.

The much maligned (but also very beautiful) Silver Gull. If they were less common we would appreciate them far more.

A pair of silver gulls. The rear bird has just landed and still has it's wings outstretched, the bird in the foreground has it's chest lowered and it's head up - a common greeting posture. The resulting form of the birds means their red eyes and beaks are nestled together in the picture, contrasting against the otherwise bleak greyscale colours.

How cute is this?! it's a little Angolan Reed Frog, and whilst they are titchy tiny they certainly make a big noise all through the Okavango Delta. This one spotted by the eagle eyed guide operating the boat trips from Xakanaka campsite.

I stumbled upon this gorgeous young goshawk whilst cycling (with camera!) today. Normally by the time I get myself organised to take photos they're long gone, but this one stuck around and even prettied itself up a little for some lovely portraits.
